1. I don't understand why Meri has to voice her unhappiness with Kody in front of all the other wives and not just work it out with him. Of course I am not into sharing the way they are. I doubt any of the offspring will follow in the footsteps of the parents after seeing how miserable they all are and how Kody plays blatant favorites. When does he spend time with the kids? He does not work and really does not play a role in their lives. Jenelle's kids sure see that he is an absentee father.

1. Kody only spends time with Robyn's kids. I don't think the other 13 kids had the same treatment. Didn't Maddie bring up the point when Kody started courting Robyn the other kids lost out in quality Kody time? Meri needs to leave because she's not happy at all.

It seems to me all these women in plyg relationships end up alone judging from the mother's of all the sister wives. The men move on to the new young wife and the older wives children grow up, leave and then they are alone.

3. I just hope it doesn't go south. I don't think I could survive seeing pictures of Cody provocatively peeling a banana.

3. Hey TLC; You'd get much better ratings if you stopped with the phony plot lines and instead showed honest interactions.

I really don't get it. The bottom line for both TLC and the Browns is ratings/money - so why in the world do they produce the most banal and boring episodes? The Browns may be uncomfortable showing the world the truth about their relationships but I bet they would agree if it meant more seasons. I mean it would be Kody's ego versus staying on television (and thus delaying the need to get a real job). I gotta think Kody would go for the money.

More people would tune in if the ladies were telling like it really is.

What the hell, TLC.

1. Here's their challenge: there are no honest interactions and they have no lives beyond this show. They are lazy, self-absorbed slugs relying on waning viewer interest to keep their sham family afloat - just as they relied on our tax dollars to keep it afloat before the show (and will again after). For all his "he-man" bravado, Kody Brown is a complete failure as a man and the family provider/leader he pretends to be.

There is no "there" there.

4. Kody is narrating again and putting words in Meri's mouth. "It was him Meri wanted to leave and not the family" I think Meri has been checked out of the family for years.

5. Thinking that last season included Christine going to a windy, chilly Texas beach to do sand castle therapy for her bad behavior, which according to Kody, was not loving ALL the family.

Hmm...wonder what Meri's punishment and lecture will be for her naughty deeds? For not loving him?
An enforced afternoon at Costco stacking bananas?

1. I'm thinking that and permanent duty cleaning Robyn's bathrooms and babysitting King Sol. Oh, and cooking Sunday dinner for Robyn and Kody since according to Kody, Robyn is too pretty to cook.

2. Amused,

That would be fitting - or what about being a greeter at Walmart (I heard they might be bringing them back). lol But, from the ending of the show, where Meri had succeeded in manipulating her storytelling so well that Kody and krew were apologizing to her (instead of Meri apologizing to THEM for having the affair - looking outside the marriage and family for something she wasn't getting from them). Bravo, Meri, good job! You turned in an award worthy performance - the woman who actively pursued a relationship with a man, outside of your marriage, but instead, you end up getting the apology from your husband. Dang, I think Meri could make a living giving seminars on manipulation and turning the tables to spouses who have strayed. Not everyone could spin the narrative so that the person who strayed ends up being the victim and receiving the apology rather than giving it. SMH

3. @Anon 10:50 What marriage? She's not married to him. She's a free woman and as soon as she sees that the better.

1. Wait, did she find another man? I doubt she'll run away unless there is someone she can run to. She has no job, lazy, etc. which is why she was so desperate to land a rich, monogamous (catfish) (wo)man.

7. Very amusing,Amused. Stacking Bananas. LOL . Sadly her punishment will be the age old polygamist woman punishment. She will stay unhappy and unfulfilled in every way and have to shut the heck up about it and keep a fake smile on her face.Eternity with Kody must be looking especially ugly right now.

1. Except on the odd Mother's Day when the women sit in a circle and each gives a tear-stained testimony about the sacrifices she made to live the principle. It's martyr-porn, and it's all they're left with in the end. News for ya, ladies: ALL marriages require some finesse, some negotiation, and sometimes some loving and considerate compromise. But healthy ones DON'T require you to have your own needs constantly back-burnered, nor incessantly swallow a heaping helping of heartache and loneliness masquerading as "sacrifice." You've been hornswaggled, gals.

8. CJ has asked what are our thoughts about another season about to debut of the Kody Brown sideshow. I don't know........each season it gets harder and harder to justify watching this without feeling like a fool. Love the Living Room, appreciate the other posters' wit and insights, and certainly appreciate and admire CJ's talent and dedication to provide this venue.
However, more than ever, after 6 years of watching, the sense of "being played' by TLC and the Browns is palpable.

Kody Brown, working for TLC and its backers, is the paid "barker" outside the side-show tent, hawking the freak show inside. All the shocking, colorful pictures (modern equivalent are the TV trailers) are displayed outside the tent to get people inside. And what do the people see once they are inside?? Nothing but shams, scams and smoke and mirrors, just like in any 3rd rate carnival side show.
(same applies to so many of these "reality shows.")

What new and plyg happy BS can the Browns possibly present to "fans" now??

The women are miserable except for the current incubator, and even she has gone to appalling lengths to become exclusive....however temporary that may prove to be in their plyg process.
Thinking that non-plyg women especially find nothing left to learn or root for in this aging show.

Ringmaster/ Harem master Kody is so predictable and forgettable now that, thankfully, FF on the remote makes his solo bits go away quickly.

The Brown kids still living at home are merely props used by production. The kids out of the home are only brought back when ratings are needed.

Where in hell does TLC think this show can go now ????
Any ideas ??

ReplyDelete
9. If TLC is looking for drama, they got it now! Although after the "catfishing" plays out (and it's getting old) the show will need something new. I'm thinking (and hoping) it will be Kody courting a fifth wife. Of course we all know Robyn will NEVER allow another woman in, for the love of money she would be willing to sacrifice an hour or two of precious Kody time she's usurped from the Original Three wives and their children. Plus, she would mandate to Kody it's just for the show, not real life and don't even THINK of tying the spiritual knot.

TLC needs to get back to the Big Love story timeline.

1. True, the catfish deal is/was pretty colorful. And true, it is getting pretty stale now.
So unless, Meri goes full out revenge on the she/Sam, all the Kody show can do with it this season is to waste a few epps on scripted "Meri interrogations and accusations," along with each Brown having their talking head spot for added boredom. Apparently even Mariah gets to tell the camera a thing or two about it. And then there will probably a therapy session....can't have Brown BS without them. Enticing TV??
And for sure, we will see all the family grinning and gathered around the ol' birthing bed ala the Duggers. Compelling TV??
Which means that Maddie's wedding had better be the event of the decade !!!

Yep.....Time for # 5.

2. The ONLY way I would ever tune in to see the 5th wife is if she looks nothing like the women Kody landed.

If she ends up being another Robyn (sobbing all the time, not very good to look at, etc.), I wouldn't see the point in wasting my time with that show.

3. They're in Las Vegas. Surely TLC can hire an out of work showgirl to play the part of Kody's next wife. They can use the same casting company they used to find those "venture capitalists" from a few seasons back. But yes, this new potential wife would need to be stunningly beautiful...just to razz up Robyn. This show needs another late night Robyn rant on Twitter!

I think Meri, Jannelle & Christine are delighted Robyn is Keeping (what's his name again - Kod Piece, Krochie, Kabbage Head----whatever his name is) busy. I am sure they have all had more than enough of him. But it is worthwhile to stay together while money is easy with TLC. Once it is over they will all go their own way.

Delete
5. I agree with Stitchin 'n Bitchin about the other wives being relieved to have Kodouche out of their hair. Like any person, I'm sure they'd rather have someone actually love, respect and care for them. But since Kody never really did that anyway and was probably more of a pain in the arse and drain on their time and energy when he was around, I'm guessing they are appreciating the big houses, money train and living large in Las Vegas without having to deal with him too much. I can't say that I agree they'll go their own way after the show is over. I think they are in it all too deep to walk away. But we can dream for them...

6. Not only a stunningly beautiful showgirl, but one who has her own extensive lingerie wardrobe and who will kindly insist on leaving the baby-making to Sobbin, leaving herself free to concentrate on facials, mani-peds, gold-digging and romping with Kody.

Delete
7. Oh yes, Amused! A golddigger that gracefully places her bills in front of Jangle and tells her to take care of these (she watched season two). I would luv to see her takeover the top floor of Meri's McMansion, turning the rooms into her own "special" suite. She could scope out when Kody secretly goes to Robyn's house and then calls him with a problem only he can solve like Brady Williams when Paulie had that window emergency on Rosemary's night! That would be so much fun to watch Meri and Robyn squirm!!

10. After all the Meri bashing I have done over the years, I now feel badly for her. No one believes the reason for the divorce ( well maybe Christine bless her heart), she obviously craved some affirmation and was vulnerable to the catfish situation. Do any of these women really believe their tag lines anymore?

Is Mariah really mad or is that for the show? It seems rather cold of Marah to judge when Meri has gone out of her way to give her everything she wanted. No wonder Meri is lonely.

I think we all know much of the show is scripted and when the cameras aren't rolling, Kody is with Robyn and her kids, Janelle is letting her kids raise themselves and Annie stepped in for Christine.

I have just watched a few back episodes to try and get up to speed. Mariah has a very hard edge to her and I think she is mad at her Mom. She was Pro Plyg lifestyle until this year. What changed? Her Mom's behaviour would be one - and perhaps being out on her own now she sees things differently perhaps.

2. CPA Carol, I betcha Robyn still believes her tagline...she had that horrendous portrait of Kody holding her three kids with David Jessop as proof she should have been in the family from the beginning. And now she has the marriage license as evidence she is now numero uno in the cul-de-sac and the Original Three don't matter anymore.

Delete
3. Mariah is nothing if not judgemental.

Delete
11. Oh Geeze...where do I begin? I think Christine looks a little smaller in her picture above, which is good because she was getting pretty large...not that large women aren't attractive. Hell, I'm large and hot as hell....
I won't be watching the show this season because of the way they have handled their children through the years and how poor Christine has been treated as a joke by Kody and the other wives. I, for the life of me, cannot understand how the woman who gave him six kids, granted only one son, and who babysat all the other children and homeschooled most of them is treated so badly by Kody and the other wives. They are dismissive of her and verbally abusive...it's a heart breaker so after last seasons I'll love you when you love all of our family...well, I cannot watch it.
As far as Mariah being so mean to her mother, well, Mariah has had years of watching her mother mistreat the other wives, her father mistreat the wives and the kids, and has spent her life as an only child with quite a few more advantages than the other children...to say she is spoiled and entitled is putting it mildly. She has had meltdowns on the show over the other children's behaviors, the new wife announcing an upcoming baby, and not getting in their home before the others...so yeah, I totally can believe she is treating her mother like crap. Poor Jangle....bless her heart. What year of her new workout and diet regime is it and she still hasn't lost but like five pounds...what the hell.
I will be so happy when the show ends and the wives and the kids start talking the truth...and they will.

12. So I am actually excited for this season. I am pumped they are going to show how the family reacted to catfishing scandal. TLC seems to be doing more marketing for the show than I recall in the past, which makes me think they are pumped, too.

.......and then I come to the blog and read CJ's analysis that the scandal, which is definitely stale, will be addressed and subsequently dispensed with quickly. Omg she is so right. By the time we get to episode 4 (being generous) it will be back to same old, same old.

13. Re: the quality of education received by the older kids from Christine as their home school teacher (from the previous post, but commenting here since it is the current post), I don't know the ages of the kids very well, but Christine could have been responsible for teaching multiple grades plus childcare for babies and toddlers plus making meals. Surely the older kids helped out with the childcare. It just seems like there is no way one adult could have managed all Christine was responsible for.

It says in one of the early episodes that some of the kids went to a "religious school". Does this mean Christine is teaching them elementary school curriculum. I don't think she is up to that. So how are the younger children being educated? Anyone know?

Delete
2. In Vegas all the kids are in public schools. In Lehi, I believe (and my memory may be a little wonky) the kids were homeschooled and attended the AUB school but were transitioned to public school probably just before the show went on the air. There was that infamous episode when Mariah still wanted to go to church school, but had aspirations of going to Annapolis so the government would pay for her medical degree.

Delete
3. I believe Christine only 'homeschooled' the younger kids until they were old enough to go to either their church's school or the public school. In the early shows Logan was in charge of getting the kids fed on time in the morning so they could get to school on time, so they did leave the house to attend school. I think Christine had stopped homeschooling the kids by the time the show started and only did it up until they were ready for 1st grade.

14. Looks like the opening episode may include footage from that latest trip to Hawaii.
The one that seems to have been a true "guilt" trip to pacify the non-wives after Sobbin and Kody-Idiot went there for their * 2nd * honeymoon. What will it take for TLC to realize that showing these phonies on yet another trip is not entertaining or rating effective TV ??. Zzzz
And then there will be the "birth" complete with all the Brown hoopla which we have seen before.
Again......yawn.

Making a prediction........
The gripping trailer footage of Meri sputtering about the catfish affair will appear again at every commercial and then again at the very end of tonight's episode with a few extra scenes, but will be cut off and used as the cliffhanger for next week.

1. What's the timeline supposed to be? Caleb asked for permission to marry in Alaska, which was last summer. Now, Maddie returns home, from looking for apartments in Montana, and she wants a wedding in June. Wouldn't she have called her "mothers" the moment he proposed? We're 10 minutes into the show, and it is already warped.

Delete
20. Being raised in a strict religious environment myself, I do like to see the Brown kids express their feelings of dissent, in lew of healthier perceptions!

Here are two of my favorite examples - both from the Alaskan gold mining episode.

While the family were panning for gold, Meri was trying to say something to Maddie, who was apparently walking away from her while she was talking. However, Meri called her on it, and stated, "Why are you walking away from me?" Maddie then stopped and listened to Meri state that: any gold they find will go toward her wedding ring. Maddie then walks away, dismissing her suggestion - possibly offended - by saying that she's sure her fiance can afford to pay for her ring. Did anyone else catch that? (I might be wrong, but I don't remember this interaction being discussed before in the living room.)

Similarly, earlier in the same episode, Garrison stood up to Kody about how by not correcting Solomon, suggesting that by not correcting Solomon, they are likely to be raising a narcissist. Garrison is told to be quiet, but production included a snarky tag line by Garrison, sarcastically noting how "all wise and powerful" his father is.

It's not that I like to see kids disrespecting their parents, rather I like to see truth spoken to power. It took me several decades to undo the brainwashing that I grew up with, and I like seeing evidence that some of the kids haven't drunk the kool-aid -- and that they have the insight and courage to stand up to the kooky figureheads in their family.

Sister Wives is a bit theraputic for me to see how unhealthy ideas can be passed down through generations, AND how unhealthy patterns can be broken.

I love seeing unhealthy patterns be broken!

5. Kody needs man friends - or a job that got him out into the workplace where he could meet other men....

OR, Kody could marry some men. That's legal now, right? lol.

ORRR, he could open the door to brother husbands. Bring in 3 more studs, er, I mean 3 other men, to help bed his harem.

That honey do list would be finished in NO time.
The wage earning power of that set up would be huge.
The women would have a rosy glow about them every.single.morning.
The kids would have more examples of how men can be, well...MEN.
The women would get along better with each other.
That couch would be way more full and the production crew could have fun rearranging them all for their interviews.
But most importantly, Kody would finally have his built-in playgroup. They would turn Christine's garage into their gym. They would workout together every day and the cameras would be rolling.

Here are my suggestions for future brother-husbands:
Bartolomeo Fasano
Dan Murphy
Adam Cowie

Hearing the mechanics of just how the catfishing was accomplished is one thing. That is actually a public service lesson for all who hang out on social media.
However, watching the inner dynamics of this family is not entertaining. THIS conversation.. an alleged therapy session should not be used for ratings.

3. I think that Janelle is not as clueless as we might think. I think she doesn't say anything because she truly has a distaste for drama. I think she would rather just sit back and watch and then go home. My husband is like that. He's a brilliant man, but he doesn't engage in drama...or even many social situations. She may be the same way.

42. What Meri really needs to tell Kody is that she is angry and sorry about their divorce---that she never wanted it and wished it had never happened....but if she says that after this last commercial break (i.e. it is about 10 minutes to the end of the two hours), it will be a major surprise. But MrSpock does not think she will ever say those words out loud or even admit to herself.----OK---end of comm'l break----and Meri says: not that.

When I hear that, in my head I just remind myself that it's not about the catfish. It's about Robyn and Meri letting her into the family. Robyn is a selfish and calculated woman and her entry into the family was the match that ignited a whole lot of destructive fires in their lives. I agree with Meri - I can't believe what she let into the family!

2. The primary problem is that polygamy doesn't work. The next problem is that Meri let ROBYN into the family. Catfish? That's way far down the list of problems in the Brown family.

Delete
3. It is fascinating how they've turned this whole saga into a PSA about catfishers when the real story is that Meri had an affair and if it wasn't for the fact that someone, probably production, clued her into the fact that she was being scammed and 'he' was actually a woman, the family would have seen the last of Meri as they saw her tail lights driving out of the 'cult-de-sac' for the last time.

Gaaaa, this show is so frustrating to watch! Just once, I want to see a Brown adult admit that their belief in and practice of polygamy is causing many of the problems they're having and that they're not victims, they're just experiencing the effects of their narrow frames of reference.

I laughed when Meri was going on and on about how the big-bad-catfisher was saying such horrible things about polygamy when we know he/she was saying the same things we've all said and which, by the way, are true.

They act like they never get jealous, that this is some kind of special relationship that monogamous people can't understand. No I completely understand, I understand that they are just as jealous and lonely as we are. And I also think that back in Alaska Mary was going to leave when she got home and she thought she was leaving with Sam. But when she got home she found out there was no Sam so now she's stuck. Because you know none of them are going to get a real job. She won't leave unless she has somebody else to take care of her

1. I agree. Apparently, Janelle and Meri are going to have a therapy session together to address their long-standing issues. (But, that was last season's teaser, too.) They're kicking Meri when she's down, after they all pretended to express their concern for her turmoil.

Usually, I watch the trainwreck, or to contemplate if they're really as dumb as they're portrayed. But, this episode was disturbing. They are all miserable, manipulative, mean, dimwitted and self-absorbed. None of them is likable, much less a sympathetic character.

Delete
2. I haven't been able to watch last night;s episodes yet (damn Amazon!) but it sounds like production is no longer glossing over the warts (and cold sores) like they used to, editing to show how polygamy just isn't working with this family any more. I'd bet a couple of pennies THAT was the reason the Browns used the old excuse of a having a "family commitment" to be no shows at their own premiere. Kody knew it wasn't going to be pretty and forbade his "wives" (not including Robyn because she rarely live tweets and this was probably her idea to no show) to tweet during the show.

Delete
48. I followed the live tweets on this site, and clicked over to SW when it looked like she was talking about the catfisher, expecting it to last 10 minutes. It ended up being the whole second hour, resulting in the first and, most likely, last episode I watch this year.

Meri owned up to more than I expected, even cutting off Janelle to say that she was flattered when Janelle was trying to give her an out. I don't doubt her fear of the psycho after she cut her off, because psycho has shown herself to be unhinged.

Robyn even admitted to knowing about the relationship "because it was everywhere" (I don't remember her exact words) months before Meri admitted it. Meri was being told it was a catfisher almost from the beginning. I think it is awful that she was manipulated by a psycho, but am finding it hard to sympathize with her because she was told almost immediately. I hope she gets help on her own, outside of the cameras, but it would probably result in her cutting off the family.

1. I caught that too about Sobbin saying she knew about it. So what....she knew and just sat on it? She was watching what the rest of social media was seeing and said nothing...feigned ignorance when Meri supposedly was crying to her ???
Nope, not buying it !!

Not only does their performance in this epp ring untrue as just typical Brown BS, any support for Meri is impossible to muster. She could not have been that stupid for that long. Months of no visible (even by pics) contact, yet she plays along ?
Sure, she may have been catfished, but then what about the grand announcement in Alaska that she was leaving? After that so-called impromptu declaration, no one in "the family" followed up/ checked up with her to see what was going on? That's impossible to believe.

Do they really think that this version will fly? And if it did happen that way, then Meri was more than ready to lie by omission and do her thing. So why all the tears now?

And....This "family "crisis" is well more than half a year old now.
Really, do they think anyone is supposed to care ??

Wonder what Nancy the Therapist got paid for this gig?

Delete
2. I absolutely think that Robyn saw what was going on on Twitter, saw the same messages to Meri that Sam was a catfisher that I saw back in June, and said nothing because it didn't benefit her any to point it out to Meri. I think she's a sociopath, and Meri ignoring Kody for the attention of someone else probably brought her enjoyment.

I think she told them more in Alaska then we saw, and the production company brought it to her attention that she couldn't leave with Sam because he didn't exist. This site posted that someone from TLC followed Sam once, and if I remember the timeline, the anti-Sam tweeters had already tweeted Meri that he wasn't real. Although in Meri's defense, she may not have seen those tweets because she blocks everyone, including people who have never tweeted her in the first place.

If we believe that the psycho has posted some true things, and she has, the the day after the Browns returned from Alaska was the day Meri demanded a meet up. I think that's when production sat her down and told her who Sam was. There is one tweeter, a man but I don't remember his name, who stays out of the gang trolling, but had already discovered Sam's true identity based on a prior victim and had tweeted Meri about it. It wasn't hard for anyone who wanted to know who Sam was to find out who Sam was, because that man already had.

I knew she would play the victim and not admit that she was ready to run off with "him", but was surprised she owned any of it. She certainly didn't say that she kept contacting him, or that they planned to meet, or that they had phone sex, and you know they did, but did say that she felt flattered and felt like she had made a friend, etc. She acknowledged she was involved at the same time she was claiming victimization. Then said she was trying to back his claims about his business and his house when I'm sure it was production that gave it to her. Sam's story was too far fetched to be believed, and yet she did, and she admitted it. It surprised the hell out of me. I expected her to deny everything, even though at this point, the voicemail and photos have been released. The entire Brown family seems to think that if they don't say it, it doesn't exist.

3. And if it did happen that way, then Meri was more than ready to lie by omission and do her thing. So why all the tears now?

I meant to address this point in the book I wrote above. The tears now are because Sam wasn't real and she's stuck with Kody. I'd be devastated to learn that he is my only hope for salvation, and she's probably not mentally strong enough, yet, to make another break for it. Not only was Sam better looking, more financially secure, and more interested in her than her husband, he had her questioning her belief system and polygamy in general. Without him, she back to believing living in misery is the right way to live. She'll probably never stick her toes into the water again. Maybe Christine will. She'd be a hoot at speed dating.

4. She contradicted herself:
I'm a victim. I can't get him out of my head.I was afraid of what he could do to me and my family.

So: which is it?
She's terrified of him or she's not?

Delete
5. I think she was terrified that psycho would release all the info she did, and possibly even scared that she was bugged and followed, because she seems completely clueless about simple things like the Find My Friends app that told psycho were she was. She's not very worldly.

He's messing with the wrong b**** is just her posturing. If she was going to do something, it would have happened months ago. I expect them to pretend it never happened soon. The whole group likes to reinvent history. We saw it this week, but next week will be something different.

Totally agree with ya, Christina. And I suspect the whole situation will be put into a pretty box (perhaps that metal heart box Robyn used as a prop for her purity/he begged for it speech a while back) tied up with a ribbon and placed on a shelf. After all, it is the Kody and Robyn show and the birthing of their little Princess takes precedence.

1. In their religion a legal marriage means nothing. They claim it is just a piece of paper. They have been preaching that from the begining. They are all spiritually married to Kody. So while we see Meri as divorced in her eyes and the eyes of the church they are not divorced...they are still married and she is still "first wife".

2. I had no idea that viewers knew about Sam and were warning her. Wow....don't tell me Kody doesn't know then. They all knew and didn't care. It's all about the TLC piggy bank.

3. Even boy friends and girl friends can cheat and be guilty of an affair, so even though they weren't married, she could still have cheated since they were in a relationship.

Delete
50. They claim to us viewers that the divorce was just the piece of paper needed so that Kody could adopt Robyn's kids and that the vows in front of God are what they consider sacred and what makes them married. Kody has had a spiritual marriage, in front of God, with all four wives, and according to their beliefs, he is married to every single one of them.

Therefore, because she vowed herself to Kody, and only Kody, and there has not been a dissolution of that spiritual marriage in front of God, Meri cheated if you consider an emotional affair cheating. I do, so she is. Janelle and Christine have never had the paper, and if they had an emotional affair, they two would have been cheating under their rules and religious tenets. If Kody sees someone outside of his wives, he would be a cheater, but it's not cheating if it is with one of the woman he took vows under God with, because that woman is his wife. See, and it makes them all better.

Meri is still there for the TLC money.

51. I saw two tweets I wanted to mention, but one is already off the feed because it was too long ago. The first one, from Meri, said that the therapy session was 6 hours long. We got about 45 mins of info from those 6 hours, so I wonder if there was a lot that was just cut, or if it was the 45 mins dragged on for hours because no one could complete a sentence without Robyn cutting in.

The one that disappeared already said something about people blaming Meri being catfished on the fact that she lives polygamy, and people want to blame everything on that, even if it's not the reason. So, if we ignore the elephant in the room (polygamy), I still see Meri getting catfished. If Kody were not out cheating on her, she still would have felt depressed and neglected because her husband is a d-bag who only cares about himself. The polygamy is making it worse, but I think she would be in the same position because her husband is not a husband, he's a narcissist.

53. Kody needs man friends. Get a job! Meet people outside of the neighborhood.

Dan Murphy
Adam Cowie

1. I'm thinking Mariah was devastated to learn her perfect mommy wasn't so perfect after all. And that polygamy isn't all it's made out to be, especially for women. Her father left her mother for another woman, legally married her and had another baby with her as proof they are sexually active. Mariah has to work through her anger, disappointment, disillusion with her religion. But hopefully she'll learn from the experience and mature. And not allow Robyn to get under her skin!

2. I am kind of happy this happened when it did, because I think it is going to solidify for Mariah that polygamy isn't the way to go. ** It is all because of YOU, Kody.... and this mutant lifestyle we are all leading and have forced on our children. **

** It is because of YOU and your narcissistic, self-created kingdom here where your need for incessant attention and control both within the family, and starting 6 years ago began displaying to the world, that has put us all in various possibilities of scrutiny and jeopardy.**

** It's because of your cunning talent for twisting and re-framing all issues that threaten your hold on your kingdom, including continuing a show that has made us all ashamed of who we are individually and collectively, that YOU hold us hostage to to YOUR skewed, self-image. **

61. Just finished the season premier and haven't had time to read all the tweets and insightful comments yet. I'm looking forward to having time for that later this evening. Just couldn't hold back my disappointment at yet another 2 hours that the Browns filled with vague nonspecific comments that just skirt around the truth.

"so many emotions" "dealing with stuff" "trying to figure things out" What emotions Meri? What stuff? How about you actually say it out loud - your marriage is unhappy, has been very unhappy, and you were seduced by the online flirtations of another "man". You had phone sex and fantasized with what turned out to be a con artist interested in using your fame for financial gain through blackmail or selling stories to the tabloids or self-publishing some stupid ebook on amazon. It's hardly a secret.

If you really want to protect your family, call the b*&ch out on national TV. That's how David Letterman handled his little scandal, and that was the end of it. The blackmailer was cut off at the knees. I think Meri was the perfect target because she (and the whole family) are afraid of telling the truth.

I just think it's ridiculous she's checking out like this given her mothers' (plural) experiences without a fallback. I get the feeling that part of the reason why Janelle can be so chill sometimes is the fact that she's left before and can leave again - all thanks to her college degree. Maybe she thinks unfulfilled wife syndrome is something that only happens in polygamous marriages? I *hope* she finds a way to finish at least an AA in her new neighborhood. Once the honeymoon's over I think she's going to feel a wee bit isolated.

1) Outright states there was no need for a crib this time. What happened to the "all kids need a crib" storyline. I think she never really planned on using one even before Sol and it was just a made up storyline to make Kody look like a hero.

2) Anyone notice that Kody never did anything about Robyn's older broken couch? He only fixed it when it was on TV. For Maddie.

3) Robyn let her expensive tastes and shopping habit slip a little. She mentioned how she kept trying to convince Kody to get her a new couch. That he finally agreed and that she would be " paying it off for a very long time." More debt! Yippee!

Christine and Janelle have always appeared more in sync together, maybe TLC is trying a new tactic with Meri having her own storyline (catfish, Mariah discord) Robyn's storyline will be the new baby and when they film Christine and Jangle it will be them doing things together??

4. I agree with Big Sky that Christine is probably a lot happier whenever Meri or Robyn are not around. The dinner with just Janelle, Christine, Kody and Maddie actually made them look functional for a second. Janelle and Christine appear just fine when it's them and Kody whereas Robyn sucks up every last bit of energy in a room and Meri weighs everyone down. It's also likely they upped her meds so maybe it's a win win for her right now.

70. Concerning Maddie and her move to Montana...Gabriel stated that Maddie is stubborn like "Mom" (Janelle), and Garrison added that "Mom" is stubborn, but independent, and that Maddie sometimes keeps doing something to prove herself right.
That comment seems very insightful.

1. I am very concerned Maddie is only so excited to get married to play "adult" and get out from under the Browns.. As someone who is married it's not all fun and games right? lol...Maddie keep your independence girl!!

2. She left home. She is already out from under. I didn't watch, just read recaps.

She was attending a school where most marry and have their first baby during college. She was attending a school majorly LDS and they don't want her. I would bail too. I hope she finishes. This is the girl who left home a week after graduation to work at the college she would start officially in the fall. She has been all over the map with various careers. Like most teens they don't know what they are going to do. I also wonder what the family is able to do with three of Janelle's kid attending school and at least five of the brown kids in school. Logan and Mariah intend on being in school forever.

Delete
3. That's right... She had left already for school. It just makes me a bit sad to think she will never experience her own financial independence since while in college the Browns were still partly financially responsible for her. Planning a wedding and decorating a home is fun. Submitting to your husband and going through financial struggles and the ups and downs of married life... Not so fun :( anyway I wish them the best! She's got an independent spirit and I doubt she will be a wilting flower like her sister moms.

71. So how helpful was the therapist during the family session? It seemed like every time the camera was on her, she was scribbling furiously and taking extensive notes. How can you solve the problem without giving total attention to the discussion and noticing facial reactions and such? And asking hard questions and being objective and trying to get to the root of the problem? She was a dud. I'm surprised she didn't haul in a wheelbarrow full of rocks and have Meri arrange them in a configuration of her idea of family dynamics, like Stonehenge or something. Logically, a domino effect would have been appropriate, Kody being the big boulder that falls and pushes off on the rest of the rocks down the line...and they all fall down.

If I have a client that 'bends the truth' or lies to rewrite history, I focus A LOT of time on note taking...I think their therapist is a hack, but I don't blame her for writing it down. You'd NEED to with this train wreck of a family.

2. Doubtful that the script called for Nancy the therapist to say anything to disrupt or deflect from the footage they were getting from Meri and the others for ratings, so seeing her taking copious notes was intended to look official and legit.

72. Does anyone else think that the Browns have been instructed to "lighten things up "? During the couch interviews Kody and Christine and Janelle were a real comedy act. Of course it was forced, and contrived, and extremely awkward, but anything to keep the pay checks coming. I also noticed on the couch that Robyn always starts to plat with her hair and look perturbed whenever the conversation is not revolving around her and her children . This whole Maddie is getting married" storyline is driving her nuts. I can just see her throwing tantrums in her room screaming it's supposed to be about me and Kody and the new baby.... Oh and King Solomon!!!

73. Funny how he was never inclined to fix that couch until the TLC cameras were rolling and he had to prove he was more of a man than Caleb. Geeeesh, Kody is such a doofus. also Robyn was PISSED during the couch interview when Christine mentioned she was driving to take Maddie. She's seething with jealousy that TLC is insisting Kody film more with the other wives. I know it's not genuine, but I am getting a sick amount of pleasure in watching her squirm when the spotlights not on her.

ReplyDelete
74. Nah, Kody doesn't put much thought into such things. He made her beg for new one and then made her pay for it.
Judging from the state it was in, he never even fixed it before, I doubt he puts that much thought and effort into anything household related, not even for Robyn.

1. I haven't watched that far yet but I definitely noticed how he stiffens up, knits his caveman brow and becomes very quiet, sullen and almost silently argumentative any time Meri or Christine speaks during the couch sessions. He looks about a second away from ripping off his dirty socks and stuffing one in each mouth.

Delete
2. It was sad. At first I thought they would have a genuine moment where he comforted her and the other wives would join for a group hug, but I guess that's only for photoshoots. I thought maybe it was a reinactment of that moment...So he kept his eyes open but she was most definitely weeping. I know Meri is partly to blame for what happened to her, but so is Kody. I just want to give her a big hug and tell her to move on with her life!!

76. Meri is hurting and humiliated and it seems they are all too happy to see her off and loose the heavy weight of her presence in the family. Isn't an appropriate response to thinking your spouse wants to leave you "why??? Please don't go!" Not "so you're saying you don't want to be with me anymore? Let me try to hide my excitement"

77. I have only watched the first 45 minutes of the Sunday premiere but noticed a few things I thought were worth mentioning:
1) At the beginning of the episode when Maddy comes home to show everyone her ring, she pulls up to the house in a white Lexus. The camera man was careful to take a looong direct shot of the front of the car as she did so there was no mistaking it.
2) Kody's too-tight pink shirt, proudly displaying his sweaty man boob and pit stains when "fixing" the couch, which he couldn't possibly let Maddy's capable looking fiancée do.
3) It's been mentioned but Sobbin' not wanting "baby sister" to sleep in a crib. WTF? After all the sobbin' about not having a crib for her other kids this was ridiculous.
4) Kody calling Robyn "Mrs. Brown" during the ultrasound. Barf! He said it like it gave him a little thrill or something. It was obvious they were getting off on being legally married in a different way than they seemed to about their spiritual marriage.

78. Maddy moved a mattress and box spring, bed frame, a not too heavy looking fake leather sofa and chair, yet the majority of the adult family members, drove 2 vehicles 16 HOURS to help 2 able bodied adults carry said items from the trailer into Maddy's house. What an incredible and ridiculous waste of time and gas, when it could have all been done by Maddy and fiancee' themselves. OH, and to only walk away after said trailer is empty. 16 HOURS of drive time and that was the extent of their stay. SMH Of course they didn't need to show them staying longer, but they at least could have said something about having dinner together later or helping her decorate, but nothing was mentioned - cause I think they took off. What doofi they are.

Yes, these 'adults' are very, VERY bad at 'adulting'. But, hey, they got a free trip to Montana, assuming they took 2 days, 8 hrs. each. That means TLC ponied up for a hotel room AND meals! BONUS for the Brown adults! free free free

80. Am I the only one who finds Truely to be the most annoying child ever? She seeks more attention that most kids that age, which is saying a lot. And her bratty behaviour is just laughed at.

ReplyDelete
Replies
1. Well in Truely's defense, she obviously isn't getting much attention. Her parents plus her bonus moms didn't even notice she was dying of dehydration until it was almost too late. I think you have to either be a boy or loud to get any attention in that family.

Delete
2. I think it's due to her being the most otherwise ignored child ever. Look at how much Sol has in comparison to the other kids. Both in material things and in all the attention he gets. Especially from Kody. Meanwhile Truly almost died due to neglect and she is sleeping on a mattress on the floor.

3. She's like a mini-Christine.

4. Truely is adorable. She reminds me of my bff's daughter at that age. All bubbly and bouncy!

Delete
5. The little ones have too many caregivers. It causes anxious attachment. What Truely may not have enough attention from is dad. 1-2 a week and sharing him several siblings, especially Sol and another new baby. Mom, gram, Aspyn and several siblings probably give her tons of attention.

Delete
6. I'm not a fan of Truely or Solomon being used to help the shows ratings. I think most kids are cute unless they're allowed to be bratty or spoiled for the cameras. It's a pet peeve of mine. It's obvious that the older kids grew up in an extremely strict environment. I remember meri yelling at someone else's kids for showing her arms. Solomon is spoiled.

Delete
7. I agree that Truely is just adorable. I don't think she acts bratty and really I don't think Sol acts bratty either. I think they act like kids who are being pushed in front of a camera and who have no idea what they are supposed to do; also, I do believe Truely is a little afraid of the baby daddy.

81. My favorite episode was when all the wives went to San Francisco and laughed together. Is it too much to ask to have a normal episode like that and not these psychotic episodes? This show will crash and burn if they keep going with these stomach turning storylines. Where's the levity? Surely these moments exist outside of Kody and Robyn's honeymoon phase...

1. The only episodes I ever enjoyed and got behind were the visits to Kody's family ranch in Wyoming. They actually had a lovely tribute to Kody's deceased brother Curtis and his dad, Winn - the family tied bandanas to the wooden fence line at the ranch in their remembrance and seeing those flutter while Kody read the last letter he ever wrote to his father seemed to be about as good as it ever got for me!
Must be the farm girl in me.... Seeing them arrive at the dilapidated home of Kody's mom and give it a much needed paint job - they actually did physical labor and performed a much needed task - not like now where they just make up pointless things to do (like several adults driving 16 hours to unload the tiniest u-haul trailer)
Those Wyoming episodes offered some real personal insight into Kody's childhood - who could forgot his story of his dad giving him coveralls for Christmas and he thought he was getting a letterman's jacket...Kody's mom talking about meeting his dad, their courtship, and reacting to his marrying another sister wife (Janelle's mom) It will just never get as good as that again!!

How about everyone else?? Does any episode stand out in your mind as one you actually enjoyed?!

2. Hi Big Sky,
I actually found the first season and the first couple eps of the second season to be truly entertaining. I feel like I would enjoy them more if they either totally lived their religion and we could learn more about it, or if they totally left their religion and we could learn more about that. But this pick and choose, snooze-fest just isn't the same.

3. I couldn't agree with you more Jack Wagon! I watched because that 1st and 2nd season seemed unscripted and I enjoyed watching.

Delete
4. Jack Wagon's take on the first season rings true for me too.
It was at least interesting to see how three women were raising kids in a human-hamster house with the harem master buzzing around from apartment to apartment. Coming from watching the fictional Big Love series, it was intriguing to see it how this plyg life could be done in real life without being the horror of the Jessup version.

However, that authenticity was short-lived when Sobbin's entrance became the center plot and then the fake, outrageous, "daddy will be arrested" exodus to Vegas.
From that point on, the show became a scripted, contrived mess of ridiculous plots, poor acting from the adults with the kids all trying to do their part too....all for Kody's dream of the $$$ and fame.

Delete
5. Yes... I miss the good ole days before they felt the need to dress like jewelry sales people in every day situations. How hard could it be to even script a scenario where at least two of the wives just hung out and did normal things? I think people are looking for the sense of authenticity in the show and it's always sadness while proclaiming they are happy. Just admit it's hard and be proactive about making it better! Wow, they need ME as their therapist! lol

82. In regard to Christine being there at the dinner & road trip move, I think it's fair to say she deserved to be there, esp since she was the main "mom" who raised her. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Maddie herself, insisted that Christine be included.

ReplyDelete

1. Christine definitely put in the work for the kids in the original family. Even with Robyn and before they stole her older kids from their dad she treated all the kids as her kids. I remember the Christmas gifts to the kids focusing on different traits she saw in each child all framed up first year in the new homes. Kody existed. Janelle was the work mom, Christine the home mom and Meri was trying to figure out who she was taking a class or two and working part time. Christine had a relationship with all the kids.
