I Scour the Internet: The Browns at College Edition for September 23, 2014

Collegians Aspyn, Maddie, Mykelti and Mariah

Who would've thunk it?

These four, young, Brown sisters from different mothers (and one doofus father) are all college students!!

Aspyn and Mariah are now sophomores, while Maddie and Mykelti are freshman this semester!

Unfortunately, it appears Bonus Mom Meri didn't get to UNLV. No doubt her bouts of the "vapors" and playing the role of  "groupie" for that fabulous Utah band VanLadyLove did not leave much time for college. Oh well...UNLVs lost and the world of at risk youth's gain is one way to look at this.

Meri's been way too busy to be a college girl...she's working hard at her role as the Jet-Setting Sister Wife and VLL supporter at the first Utah Music Awards...

Perhaps she's decided her career path should be in the entertainment industry...looks like she's scoping out a new band to stalk...i mean to follow...
But the VLL accolades keep spilling from her nimble fingers to her twitter followers...

Good grief, Meri. How much are these guys paying you?

Like a true globetrotter, Meri takes a picture of the busy airport tarmac. No more putting mileage on her car for her weekly Utah trips..Next time she'll be leasing a private plane instead of flying commercial!
But she still has time for one more VLL tweet...

Thus, we have the reasons why Meri is not at UNLV this semester...

The Brown's "Just Your Average TV Star" is still trying to find her Twitter voice. I suppose she saves all her mature stuff for her true friends on instagram...

Good question Mariah. Your "audience" has been wondering the same about you since last semester...

I hate to break this to you, but they even let nurses "fix" cuts nowadays. Now, if you had reattached a finger or limb, that would have been noteworthy!

Oh yes, Miss Sunshine is shining through again...
Amazing how she can go from one extreme to the other in a matter of minutes, isn't it?
First she's waking up, now she's complaining about the lack of sleep. Which is it?
I suppose this mention of the Boston hoodie means something significant...
Ahhhh...she's looking up med schools. Now, I wonder what city they are located in...could it be....BOSTON?????
Let's hope you have better luck than your mother Meri and bonus mom Janelle...
Uncomfortable isn't the word...I think scared to death is more accurate.

Looks like you got more than coffee...so what sweet was in the wrapper?

And then there's Freshman Maddie. Now let's be real, Maddie can have her entitled moments too. But there is something fresh and endearing about her that you can't stay upset with her for long...Follow the next three tweets where you can't help relating to what she's experiencing...

Hey Maddie! Don't despair! Econ is hard!!!

But all is well! Maddie pledged a sorority and the world is rosy again. Hey, maybe one of her Greek sisters is an Econ major...

This is sweet...(wipes tear from eye)
No doubt the color influence comes from being around Bonus Mom Christine all those years.

Hmmm....for some reason Mykelti's tweets tend to be on the dark and brooding side, if you know what I mean. For a girl who believed her father's malarkey about kissing and passing hormones, you'd think she'd be more...pious, know what I mean?

Did this come from a romance novel?
All righty then.

At least she eats healthy...My BFF calls oatmeal for dinner her "Harvest Grain Festivale." I don't eat dinner at her house much...
And yet another Brown going Greek!

So does this mean she's working at the library or doing homework there? At any rate, she's miles ahead of her mom and dad in the work and school departments.

Meri may be having dizzy spells, but Aspyn seems to have a more serious problem...

A girl has to know her limitations...

Can you tell this is Aspyn's second year in a sorority?
Hmmm....I wonder what Aspyn is saying. It's all Greek to me...
Aspyn are you suffering from multiple rush crushes?

And this just in...

Mykelti got into the sorority she wanted!

Well that's all the tweets from the college teens for now. And remember, I Scour the Internet (Twitter) So YOU Don't Have to!

  1. I follow Maddie on twitter but I need to follow the other college girls...fascinating! My daughter is a junior in college and in a sorority so I relate to these girls.

I don't even think Meri was every going to UNLV. It was a big fat storyline lie. I think Meri wants to be as far removed as she can be from Las Vegas, the cul-de-sac and the other wives. I think she is 'done' with the relationship(s). Her obsession with VLL is creepy.

Other than what the kids say/tweet, I don't believe anything about this family anymore. Except, of course, I believe that Janelle is rocking the early morning workouts (yay!) and working such full days that she needs to cook all meals in a crockpot (double yay!).

  2. I doubt Meri was really going to go to school. I think this was just another made up storyline. Maybe Meri should be looking for a job? There is no reason why she shouldn't be working. Seriously, what does she do all day? This family sure seems to be spending money quickly. The TLC gravy train is not going to last much longer. They should be planning for the future, not blowing it all away on concerts, road trips and endless Disney vacations.

  3. Yes, the Meri Co-ed story was BS from the get go.
What should infuriate every viewer, sycophants and skeptics alike, is remembering the phony over-done bit where Meri and KodyIdiot go into the restaurant with Meri all twitchy and anxious as she produced "a letter" announcing her acceptance to take "a few" classes. Meri played it up to hilt, looking all sheepish and scared of what her "lover" would say. Kodygoof played his part up too...eyebrows almost meeting over his caveman forehead, his beady eyes feigning surprise. So, so lame !!

The whole skit (and that is what it was, just a written and acted skit) was lame and not believable.

    But two things *were* accomplished:
1- No doubt the two look-alike Brown scammers got yet another free, comped dinner.
2- Kody got to debut that repulsive greasy, baldy, lank hairdo.
No blow-dryer, curling iron and mousse for that shoot.

  4. I think that Meri may have "intended" to go to school just to get out of MSWCrapola work. Now she is obviously avoiding school so she can do literally do nothing. Now she doesn't have to help with the bonus kids, can go to Disneyland whenever she wants, and can follow her band crush all around the country. She's living the dream! All the TLC plyg paychecks, but none of the plyg family crap that she has cried about for the past for 5/6??? years. Every time somebody brings up her contributing to the family she can throw the potential for going to school in their face. It's the perfect plan. Way to go you lazy biznitch!

  5. Mariah seems a little bi-polar. If she is tired now at school, wait until she is in medical school doing 24 hour shifts. That won't be pretty.

Glad Maddie got out. Sounds like Aspyn and Mykelti are getting out too. Does Logan tweet?

I agree with everyone else, Meri never had any intention of going back to school this year. Another lame made up storyline. I think she is basically living in Utah and is going to high tail it back there permanently once the show is over. Her tweets are really strange. It is probably the healthiest for her to spend as much time away from the culd de sac as possible so I can't really blame her.

    1. I doubt Mariah gets accepted in state side medical school. She has way too much work to do and she doesn't have enough time to do that work. She's a sophomore...nope, not enough time to create a medical school quality CV. Not gonna happen.

    2. Maybe she'll go to med school in Tijuana?!

    3. Snarkaholic:
I don't know about Tijuana, but my brother went to medical school in a different city in Mexico, and I can tell you that it was not easy, it took him many years, including a Pediatrics specialty and a Masters in Biological Research, and a lot of work, time, travel to study and practice, sacrifice, not just for him but for all of us, it was quite a family effort.

    4. Frida, I live in SoCal and was making a joke about TJ. It's not a place you will find a med school...and if you do then you can achieve your degree in 5 minutes if you have fifty bucks.

  6. Sororities are expensive--and times 4! They must be swimming in money over at the cuddle-sac!

Can't wait to follow Mariah's medical school story--gee, will it be Harvard, Johns Hopkins, or Stanford?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I don't know about all sororities, but my sister's was cheaper than the combination or dorms, dining hall, and additional entertainment expenses.
I would guess the Brown girls are either working toward some type of deal, or are just too used to being in a large group and need the feeling of companionship.
You'll notice Mariah (as an only child) doesn't seem interested in 'sisterhood'...I guess the idea is less appealing if they're not also boning your future husband.

Either way, I'm glad the girls are integrating into more secular or non plyg groups. Though I'm a little surprised their sororities don't mind the negative connotations or connections their polygamous reality show family brings. Especially considering the embarrassment that is a parent to most teens...imagine Kody stopping by for a 'visit' and worrying that his man card might be questioned or that people would misconstrue his 'friendliness' as an attempt to scope out a sorority girl bride.
New meaning to sisterwive, I guess they could squeeze a season or two out of that storyline.

  7. (breaking my rule again about the kids..but Mariah just begs for it with her tweets)

    Calling Dr. Mariah.....

"Hey, this ER is too damn hot. I will not work until that temp is lowered.
What?...it is kept warm for the patients' comfort?
Well, I am not comfortable....so FIX it, damn it !!! "

"And another thing. you all better not be rude to me, cuz I don't like rude people.
    Get it?? "

"I told you all that when I am tired I am not happy....and I like to be happy,
So where the hell is my COFFEE ?? "

*All I can say is that every college dorm seems to have at least one Mariah.
Eventually she will run out of willing roommates. *

    1. Any of you who have seen "Burn after Reading" (LOVE that film) remember Tilda Swinton as John Malkovitch's estranged wife and what a sympatheic pediatrician/person she was (NOT). and THAT is how I envision Dr. Mariah, should she in fact make it that far. She'll probably end up being a chiropractor or something.

      Delete
    2. "She'll probably end up being a chiropractor or something."

Or...she will glom on to the first Plyg guy that shows an interest !!
Her "I want to be a doctor" may be sincere at this point in her immature mind, especially since it has been mentioned for the last 3 or so years on the show !
She probably thinks it is a cool thing and gives her a special identity at this point. However, reality will soon descend on that process and she will find out just what it *really* takes to be an MD.
Mariah has been groomed to be a Plyg wife....a first Plyg wife.... just like her mother.
      And God help her.

    3. I agree Amused, a plyggie life for her. I wonder if she will even finish college--she's probably in the ring by spring camp and searching for that plyg hubby. It would make sense (in as far as anything to do with the plyggie lifestyle makes sense) since she is planning to attend Westminster for two years. She can find a plyg hubby in two years, right?!

    4. How many doctors did you graduate high school with? A large number from my upscale town wanted to be doctors. At 10 yr reunion they were all--ok not all--most ended up with Hotel Restaurant Manager degrees. Fine choice, don't get me wrong, but w-a-y off the doctor mark.

  8. Mariah will never ever become a Doctor, Meri will never go back to school, Janelle will never get skinny, Christine will never grow a backbone, Robyn will never have another baby and Kody will never ever grow up or get a real job. Th End.

    1. I will agree with all that with the possible exception of Robyn. I don't think she is using birth control, and has proven she has no problem getting pregnant. She's delirious enough to think that the TLC money will last until her youngest child is 18.

      Delete
    2. Maybe she didn't have a problem getting pregnant in 2011, but she's not exactly looking enciente at the moment, unless they're doing a great job of hiding her belly.

  9. Meri always looks so happy lately when she's posting pictures of herself stalking VLL or doing other solo activities. She probably jumps at any chance to get out of the cult-de-sac and away from shipping trinkets to MSWC customers these days.
Hopefully she'll convince Mariah to take off that Boston hoodie and find a med school closer to home. Mariah would hate Boston anyway- we turn on the heat when it rains, we get direct sunlight through our bedroom windows, and we have random episodes of rudeness. Wonder if there's a med school near Disney?

    1. The University of Utah, right there in SLC, is a fine - and competitive - program. Not that she probably has a chance in hell of making it in, from the sound or things. Of course, she's probably "too good" to go there. Would have been a great, and far cheaper option for undergrad, too.

      Delete
    2. If memory serves me, I think Mariah tweeted that she was only going to Westminster for 2 years and then would be transferring to the University of UT to complete her degree and medical school. The speculation was Westminster must be paying for her school costs, but only for a finite amount (that would last 2 years) or 2 year time period. This would make sense as after 2 years she could qualify as in state resident at the U. She apparently is now living with roommates in an apartment - which further qualifies her for UT residency, she has a job. She just needs to stay put in UT for the summer. I think Maddie was smarter: She left NV immediately after graduating HS, set herself up with a non-campus job and an apartment. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out...especially if Sister Wives is cancelled by TLC.

    4. BC - I thought your last paragraph was hilarious! The posters, and of course the moderator, on this site are very clever.

I'm kinda appalled that institutions of higher ed would allow students to attend for a free or reduced rate in exchange for publicity. If that's true, then I find that despicable. Maybe it happens all of the time, and I've just been in the dark.

    5. Somehow the comment from Anonymous 10:20 shows deleted. This must have been in error. Here is what the comment said:

"When I looked Westminster up on the internet, the college site spent a lot of space on their nursing program so I got the idea that perhaps Mariah planned to take an undergrad nursing degree to finance med school. Silly me! Would any Brown parent except Janelle have that much foresight?? Mykelti tweeted that the sorority she wanted to join has helping children in hospitals as their philanthropic cause. Perhaps, we'll see a Brown in the medical field yet. At 18 lots of us had no idea what would be of enough interest to spend a lifetime doing it. Dress designer and business degree makes a good pipe dream but the real world waits for her soon.

One question about the Brady Bunch--did anyone ever discover Paulie's family tree? I went back and read SW blog the other day and was surprised to find that the other wives are cousins. And that Rosemary's father has just filled LaMoine Jensen's shoes as leader of the AUB. Leaving AUB must have been really troublesome to the Williams on a lot of levels. bgee"

      Delete
    6. Leaving AUB must have been really troublesome to the Williams on a lot of levels
Troublesome is an understatement when you consider the backstory that I doubt TLC will show on My Five Wives. According to Janet Bennion, an anthropologist who researched the AUB (as well as other polygamous groups) Rod Williams was basically expelled from the AUB after 12 years of membership. His crime? He played an important role in Virginia Hill recovering her millions of dollars that were stolen by high ranking members of the AUB. For that act of treason, the AUB expelled Rod Williams. His adult children were allowed to stay but had to pledge their allegiance to Owen Allred (leader of the AUB at that time) with a promise to "disassociate themselves" from Rod Williams. Like I've said, Rod Williams and his story would have made a very interesting reality show.

If Rosemary's father is indeed the new leader of the AUB, that could explain why Brady and his Wives have not been evicted from their homes, which Brady built on land owned by the AUB.

[I] ...was surprised to find that the other wives are cousins...
Bennion also notes that the marrying of female cousins is common in polygamous groups like the AUB. Here's her list of some generalizations she's observed in the Allred group (AUB). Don't forget that Papa Joe Darger wives are cousins and two wives are identical twins.

-Co-wives are commonly related to each other by blood (sister, cousin, niece, aunt, etc.).

-Women have the final choice about whom they will marry, and more often than not, these unions depend upon the new wife’s previous liaisons between women, not men.

-Marriages that are least likely to end in separation or divorce are those in which strong bonds form among co-wives.

-There is a strong correlation between female bonding and sororal polygyny.

Bennion, Janet (2011-04-24). Polygamy in Primetime (Brandeis Series on Gender, Culture, Religion, and Law) (Kindle Locations 2681-2684). University Press of New England. Kindle Edition.

The last point about female bonding may also explain why the college Browns (with the exception of Mariah) pledged traditional sororities.

      Delete
    7. This frequency of female bonds determining sister wives success would also explain the failure of the Brown sister wives as a bonded unit. Kody seemed to gather these women together in a random less thoughtful way than the Dargers. It seems to make a difference for them. (Not that I am advocating polygamy!)

  10. This "band thing" with Meri is very interesting. From MrSpock's own experience there was a time to go crazy over different bands/groups/soloists---but that was usually in ones teens and 20s. However, after getting into the 40s and beyond MrSpock does not know anyone in those age groups who is a band groupie or who is all excited about a new band----that's what makes Meri's seeming obsession so unusual. MrSpock wonders if Meri had no such experiences as a teen or in her 20s---but has now discovered something she missed and is now living the "band experience" albeit 20-25 years later than average.

And, yes, if she were in school, she would be tweeting about it.

    1. Meri's bizarre obsession with VLL reminds me of all the middle aged women who went crazy over Twilight and became "Twi-Hards". It was just pathetic and showed women who had such a lack of something in their lives that they became a joke.

Meri needs to go to college and find a career. Being a groupie stopped being a career in the 60s.

      Delete
    2. It's delayed adolescence. None of these women have the emotional maturity of a woman in their 30's or 40's, so imagine how jarring it would be to finally be responsible for only yourself.
Never having your 7 or 8 heaven babies, fewer bonus kids around, and a husband who has no interest in you except napping in your organized house.
It's probably like going through puberty all over again (and by puberty I'm really guessing menopause).
Maybe that's a thing we can start? Like how 30 is the new 20, menopause is the new puberty...I'll make t shirts.

      Delete
    3. Perhaps Meri is trying to make Kody jealous. Giving so much attention to other (talented, younger) men must make him a raving lunatic...wait, he already is one, so maybe a disgusted, raving lunatic! She ought to read a good book...I suggest '50 Shades of Gray'...that might keep her occupied on her lonely nights!

I live within 30 miles of a major university (Roll Tide!!!), a small liberal arts college and then one hour from a great research university/hospital (UAB). I told my daughters they could go to school anywhere...as long as they can live at home because sending twins to college will be nearly impossible. Plus, I enjoy my daughters and I provide a home where they feel like they are wanted so they don't feel the need to leave as soon as they finish high school. The Browns seem to create an environment to foster leaving instead of cleaving. So sad.

  11. Mariah just likes to complain. It seeps out of her without thought. She gets this naturally from Meri. When Robyn said I hope you dont go far from the family in finding yourself, she knew Meri had withdrawn from the family. Meri has said several times that when things are not good with Kody, she withdaws from the family..she is not only withdrawing, she is running away because she has the means and time to do so. Strange she has glommed on to a band to do it. Robyn used to say the VLL bands songs were her and Kody's songs. Have not heard much from Robyn about that lately. They are probably using the band to get back at each other. The scenarios are endless..Mariah has an apartment so christines girls get apartments, its always a competition passed down from mothers to kids. They went to disneyland so we are too..endless..until the money runs out.

  12. LOL! People are scared to death when Mariah tells them she loves them. Hilarious! "I'm gonna make a great doctor." Who writes that? I was a Chem major in college which meant taking a lot of the same classes as the premed students. I didn't know anyone who was sure they were getting into med school. Everyone had back-up plans. You would think she would be complaining about Organic Chemistry tests or some of the usual complaints of premed sophomore students.

    1. I agree. I commented before on Mariah's premed stuff, so I figured i'd give myself a name and comment again (before, I was anon).

Anyway, I agree- Mariah seems to have unrealistic expectations as to what she needs to do to get to Med school. Sister Wives is not going to help her get in. She is a sophomore now, which means she needs to be serious about gaining shadowing experience, doing volunteer work, and ideally some ungrad. research (she needs atleast two of the three I mentioned). She also has to start thinking about the MCAT, when she'll take it, etc. and then making sure she'll have her prereqs done in time. I have no idea where she gets all her free time, because she seems to have a lot of it!

  13. Either Mariah is naive or totally arrogant. As a pre med sophomore she certainly has no idea if she will ever get accepted into med school. It is very difficult and competitive and I know many very capable people who were unable to realize their dream of becoming a doctor.

  14. Apostate-
Did you ever have that kid in your grade who was kind of a nerd? Not cool, not smart, not good looking, but they had their 'thing'?
Sometimes it was drawing, or music, or a big time aspiration, but everyone knew it was just bravado...except that kid.
Mariah is that kid. She's the pride and joy of two incredibly delusional people. In the few years we have watched Mariah has never been denied anything, nor made to sacrifice the same things that they all claim to make them 'better'.
If people are 'scared of her love' or 'dumb' it's just because they're not as perfect of a snowflake as she is. I doubt anyone in her life says she will make a great doctor (except maybe mom and dad) so she probably figures if SHE says it enough everyone will believe it.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes she is that kid. I also wonder if she really knows what a doctor does? The Browns don't go to doctors consistently from what I see so maybe she thinks it is putting Bandaids on people or it will be like TV shows she watches, There is no doubt her parents passed down their delusional thinking to her.

      Delete
    2. "There is no doubt her parents passed down their delusional thinking to her."

Agree, Apostate, This is, unfortunately, her legacy from her parents !

A father who has parlayed his own insecurities into claiming his spot as an adult "male" by sleeping with four (at this point, anyway) women, and fathering 14 children to date.
And a mother who spends her middle years lamenting what didn't happen in her baby-making life cycle, and now following a 3rd rate rock band with all the fervor of a lovesick 16 year old. Sad for all three !!

Polygamy just may be a synonym for "delusional."

  15. I actually have been thinking about this (clearly I need better things to pass my time), but I think we're a bit hard on Mariah. Don't get me wrong, the girl clearly has her fair share of faults but those tweets weren't so bad compared to past ones (like the TV star one). Everyone complains about the temperature, etc. The lack of sleep tweet was sent four days after the nap tweet. While I think she may need a reality check, and she's probably too spoiled to be a doctor, I also think we read too much into her pretty typical tweets. Even the ones about being a doctor...plenty of kids think they will be amazing pre-med school.

Meri on the other hand, oh my. Is she ever home anymore? During all these trips I feel like she has to be missing some of her nights with Kody. Unless he's been too busy trying to talk Robyn into popping out another baby. If Meri is missing days with him...lmao. Kody is so used to these women being desperate for his time and for them to purposely skip it?! I hope she is. The band thing is creepy but at least it's giving her a taste of life outside of the cult-de-sac, which has gotta be better.

    1. Somebody mentioned that she might be trying to make Kody jealous. I agree with this. She's trying to get his attention by making him jealous. Remember when he snarled that he was disgusted by the thought of her with someone else (or additional husbands or something)? Meri, as many have noted, is manipulating.

      Delete
    2. I agree, I actually like Mariah. This blog tends to applaud Maddie and Logan for rebelling and getting out etc., but in Mariah, I see a girl desperately trying to be the good kid, a friend to her mother and be a typical teenager. I hope people don't hold a heavily edited reality show over her head the rest of her life. I don't think any of us really know what it's like to grow up in such a dysfunctional family and have it filmed, but considering what she's been through she could be a lot worse.

      Delete
    3. We never see her home and dramatic anymore. This is just simple adjustment to being an adult sort of behavior.

      Delete
    4. All of that is true, I think.

Most of the people around here (sort of going with an assumption, forgive me if I'm off the mark) would be rooting people to leave dysfunctional domestic situation. The wives are all locked in for one reason or another, so it's pretty much the kids at this point. It's been interesting to watch them navigate through a world with options. Mariah's been groomed hardcore for polygamy, as someone said, and seems to endorse it.

However, while I think Mariah is pretty insufferable at this point (I came THIS CLOSE to nominating her for one of the Plyggie Awards before I thought better of it), I also think she's desperately trying to be the 'good' plyg daughter, setting herself apart by keeping the faith and acquiring some sort of prestigious degree. Since she's Meri's only kid, the pressure must be extra intense. I hope for her overall wellbeing she doesn't crack, because then you're Kate from Breaking Amish. :'(

      Delete
    5. I think Meri is loving every single minute of the freedom she has as an empty nester. I think that she never had any intention of trying any particular fertility interventions, and that all the crying over not having more kids was a bit of a show and a lot of baloney. It was a good way to keep a story line going and keep getting attention from Kody, until he had had enough.

      Delete
  16. I think all of the kids were promised things that never panned out They said so when THE HOMES were a story line. What the Brown's SAY and what they DO are always two different stories. They talk big but don't walk the walk. Mariah is just a casualty of that.

  17. Mariah should not only be taking organic and inorganic chemistry but anatomy, physiology, patho-physiology, physics, pharmacology, and all of the core classes such as algebra, core science, core writing, social sciences, civics, history, and whatever else her degree calls for. BTW, just between you, me, and the fence post, if she is spending less than six hours a day outside of a lab or library, she is not going to medical school. But, really, she hasn't prepared herself for medical school and the application process and acceptance into medical school is so competitive that only the best of the best and only the motivated of the motivated even are considered. She is dreaming...I don't think she could get into nursing school.

Food for thought - Meri might not have wanted to get pregnant all of those years. She could have been on birth control, without Kody knowing. From what I understand and please correct me, sex is for procreation. All the others were procreating so once they were pregnant, or after delivery, there was no sex. Meri, on the other hand, was trying the practice made perfect but nothing appeared. She could have had Kody more that the other wives.
Also, wouldn't it be great if Janelle was pregnant. Robyn's face would be priceless.

    1. She finished high school in a special vocational program at a community college. No way she completed enough credits to graduate high school and fulfill the first 2 years at UNLV. She is a college freshman.

    2. She said on the show that she would be graduating high school with an associates degree. That's the first two years.

    3. The new braniac plan around my parts is to send kids to high school for dual credit courses. Take your high school classes but they are really college level so we will give you college credit. That way you can graduate high school with your Associate's and go to college as a junior.

There isn't an OMG big enough for that stupidity. While a few kids might be mature enough to be a college junior at 18, the average high school graduate is most certainly not.

My daughter is a college sophomore and I asked her what would've happened if she had gone through one of those programs and then entered her university as an 18 year old junior. She laughed her butt off and said "They would've eaten me alive!" She took a dual credit course in high school and she said it is laughable to try and compare it to an actual course at her university.

Mykelti is very immature. If she is a college junior then I think she has a hard fall in her near future.

    4. Graduating with an associates degree is one of the programs at CSN BUT... from what I see on the their website leads me to believe only fraction of the HS students actually go for that particular program. And frankly speaking, Mykelti liked her Disneyland vacations too much to put in a lot of effort to complete college level classes as well as her high school curriculum. We have to remember she is the female version of Kody - headstrong with a lot of braggadocio. I don't doubt she said on the show she was getting her AA, but like her dad, when she realized just how much work would be involved, I wouldn't be surprised if the AA went out the window like the rest of Kody Brown's pipe dreams.

I suppose we will find out for sure this season, when they show her and Maddie graduating from their schools. Surely if she does have her AA, it will be announced.

    6. In most R1 universities, when a student comes to college having already taken courses through their high school as either online courses or taught by the high school faculty, they struggle. They don't take Freshmen English I and II so their writing skills lag behind. Instead of learning to write academic papers based on argumentative, multi-source sources, the students have been taught to read literature and write a reflective piece on what the play, poem, or story did for them. These students, even if they have taken AP English and have passed the AP placement exam, are often denied entrance into the honors colleges because they cannot write on the same standard that college juniors should be writing. I know this because I teach at an R1 university and run a writing center, so I see these kids. Economics is based in reading and responding to academic articles and Maddie is struggling not because the economic theory is so complicated but because she lacks critical reading, writing, and thinking skills that she would have gotten taking those core classes. I need to stop before I really go crazy on the problems with students who take college courses when they are in high school.....now, we do have high school students who attend, part time, our university, and they take the core classes but they take them on campus with our professors so they are getting the same quality education as the college kids...

    7. I thought, briefly, that Mykelti was this incredibly philosophical kid who came up with these great tweets. Then I noticed she was just using various quotes without attributing them. I think she is probably a really great kid, but I definitely think she says what sounds good. I would not take much of what she says seriously.

    8. Yes, a number of her recent tweets were from the novel "A Fault in Our Stars." It's a big pet peeve of mine when people do not give credit for quotes.

      Delete
    9. It all depends on how many credits she earned. She basically earned 3 hours of college credit and 1 credit for high school besides for each class. If she has 60 credits she is an upperclassman. She is probably a sophomore at least.

      Delete
    10. That's not how it works, kms. You have her earning more credits for college than for high school for taking the same class!

      Delete
    11. Yes. That is how it works. You can't get 3 credits in English 101 for high school. You can only earn 1 credit per class in high school. Back in the 80's I took a college class where I earned more credits for that class than the high school class. You earn 1 credit per year in high school for a given class. But in college you earn a credit for every hour you are in class per week a semester. A college class usually meets three times a week. Or three hours over two days. So for the semester you earn 3 credits. In high school a five day a week class earns 1/2 credit per semester. With dual enrollment or co classes they just say if instead of taking journalism senior year and earning a credit, take English 101 at the college level and while you earn the 3 credits of college credit we will give you a high school credit as well. It is not the same class. She isn't earning college credit for English 4. She is earning credit for English comp at the college level.

      Delete
    12. KMS is right. College classes are generally 3 credit hours per class (if the school has semester credits not quarters) while high school just counts classes as classes (not as credits). An "AP" class in most high schools is worth three college credits. IF Mykelti followed through with her plan of having an AA degree when she finished high school, she would have 60-61+ college credit hours. I hope she did, as much as she was thrown under the bus for a "wild child" story line. It would be nice if she were the first girl to graduate from college.

      Delete
    13. But did Mykelti ever actually state that she was starting as a junior this year? One would assume (the way this family works especially with her being so much like Kody in personality) that if she actually earned those credits, and her AA, she (and Christine) would have shouted it from the rooftops of Twitter. It appears she didn't, and just like Meri's supposed UNLV attendence, they just refrain from mentioning and hope it all goes away.

  21. Here's the deal: I don't blame Meri for hitting the road. Why would she stay home? She shares a husband with three other women and one of those is trying to get knocked up. All the bonus kids, particularly the pixies, are free range and pop into and out of her house when their pop is there, so why would she want to be there, taking care of her husband's girlfriends' kids. Her kid is grown and no matter how you see it, now is the time for her to do what she wants to do. Kody should be going with his wife but he is too busy playing stud muffin. Her happiness, when she is away from the harem, is so obvious but when she is with the other women, her facial and body expressions show her sadness. I use to beg Christine to run but Christine is a glutton for punishment so now I way to Meri...girl, run...don't look back. Slip out the back jack. Stay on the road. Have fun.

  22. I love all the posters on this blog! I read the page for fun and I chuckle at all of you. So, I wanted to say a couple of things. I will not be funny, sorry. I think that it is really fantastic that all of the girls are out of the house and away. Even spoiled Mariah is having new experiences and learning about different people. Which of us can't remember the roomie who wanted the apt hot or cold? It is all good and will make her a better person to be around people who are not Browns. One comment, My daughter is a Soph in college and is not pre-med but has so little free time after classes, social and work. I am pretty sure that putting a band-aid on your friend and not minding blood does not make you a doctor (maybe it lays the groundwork for becoming a serial killer?). That aside, I LOVE that the girls are away and in sororities, they will meet different people, see different worlds and I can't imagine that after seeing the whole world out there that they would return to polygamy. I believe that when Kody allowed cameras into his home to show people how "normal" they are, he inadvertently began the end of his polygamist empire. I don't see many of these kids following him into this religion and it looks like a couple of his wives are figuring out plan B. So, carry on kids, tweet and meet, the world is out there. Don't be too stupid but don't look back. Mariah. . . that is a different story.

I agree, Missy! He did the exact opposite of what he set out to do. I didn't have any really strong feelings one way or the other about the subject (not that nasty Warren Jeffs crap-the idea of progressive polygamy) until I watched this show. Kody the Klown has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that polygamy is a completely dysfunctional misogynistic joke.

    2. I agree with this on a certain level, but I actually think Kody's real intention all along was to file a lawsuit against the State of Utah and decriminalize polygamy. They needed a public forum to keep their case in the public eye and to gain some level of support from the general community. A controversial reality show is the perfect forum to do that. Christine was already a public polygamist figure before this show started through her PR work with a certain polygamist advocacy group. The Browns were a natural choice to serve as their church's poster children.

Winning this case, must place Kody in some level of high esteem amongst the polygamist community and will definitely land the Brown family name in the polygamist history books. What a tremendous ego/power-trip this whole experience has been for him.

    3. They needed a public forum to keep their case in the public eye and to gain some level of support from the general community.
The "they" you mentioned is Principle Voices, an advocacy group for the fundamental Mormon flavor of polygamy.

The Browns were a natural choice to serve as their church's poster children.
The Browns at one time may have been a "natural choice", however, Kody's antics, including his dash across the border to Las Vegas Nevada and his show's subsequent showcasing of overindulgent behavior (including the need to have 4 separate, huge, expensive homes) made the Browns an embarrassment to the cause.

Winning this case, must place Kody in some level of high esteem amongst the polygamist community and will definitely land the Brown family name in the polygamist history books.

Kody and Wives never made an appearance in the courtroom in Utah. Never. That job was assigned to Papa Joe Darger who was just as much out in the open as Kody, but chose to stay in Utah - and was never arrested...go figure. Meanwhile, Kody was claiming he was afraid to go back to Utah, while traveling back and forth with Robyn to St George UT on many occasions.

I believe the only reason why Centennial Park partially opened their doors (first to Lisa Ling and later to NatGeo in the form of Polygamy, USA) was to offset all the damage to their quest for decriminalization that Kody Brown caused. Kody Brown may have opened the door, but it took a show like Polygamy, USA to show how plural families work supposedly work and how they were just like everyone else. It still wasn't a pretty picture, but at least there wasn't a buffoon being shown running from house to house in a culdesac with his long hair blowing in the wind!!

So no, I do not think Kody Brown's name will be mentioned in any polygamist history books, and a big NO that Kody has earned an esteemed place of glory within the polygamist community. He is an embarrassment.

    4. I can see the Browns being mentioned briefly in an intro to sociology or anthropology textbook in a polygamy chapter. When I was an undergraduate, I remember a chapter in a soc 101 book talking about the Osbournes for their reality show. I doubt current editions have them in it, however, and the Browns will too only be relevant while their show is on the air

  25. What will they all do when the TLC gravy train runs out? None of them have any real marketable skills, they aren't exactly spring chickens, those houses have got to be total negative equity, and my understanding is they have no investments or savings to fall back on. You would think, out of 5 adults, one of them would at least have enough common sense to realize the show will not last forever and they should have some kind of back up plan. I worry about the kids.

Speaking of kids, I just randomly thought about this - how's Savanah doing? I always thought she was so cute and sweet. After the first season though we really don't hear or see anything about her. What gives? Is Janelle too busy working out and drinking buttered coffee to check in with her kids once in a while?

I wish the best to the college browns. I am very glad to see them all (except golden child Mariah, of course) be moving on and growing away from the family and into their own individuals. They all seem to be pretty well adjusted young adults at college. I honestly didn't see that coming, considering their crazy parents. I hope the middle browns adjust just as good.

We are seeing more of Savanah, however I think the reason we haven't been overloaded with her presence is because she's still a little girl - isn't she 7 or 8 years old?

The two middle boys that give me pause are Janelle's Garrison and her youngest boy Gabe. For me, there's something negative going on between Kody and these 2 boys. It didn't help any when Garrison reminded doofus Kody about soldiers fragging their superior officers (which if I had said that to my father I would have been grounded indefinitely and possibly admitted to a psychiatric hospital for observation - at the very least lectured firmly to never say that again to my father). And the way Kody dismisses Gabriel, his youngest son before King Sol was born, is terrible to watch. Kody almost never makes eye contact with those two boys of Janelle...it's very weird.

  27. I definitely get the impression from all of these polygamist reality shows that the parents feel no obligation to cover their kids' college expenses. I am sure they contribute to a small degree, but I have a strong feeling that the Brown kids pay there own way with financial aid. Mariah is just the foolish one to strap herself with tons of loans rather than choose an affordable state school like UNLV.

    1. I once read somewhere that Kody takes in $200k a year from the show, green goo, and endorsements. I'm not sure how true that is but one can assume that all the wives are in 6 figure range from TLC. Given Mariah has to use both parents income I'm going to say she didn't qualify for financial aid, Aspen and Mykelti probably qualified for very little, and Logan and Madison are probably getting the most but I'm going to bet it's still not much. I remember when I was getting financial my parents made under $50k a year and they had 3 kids in college at once and we still didn't qualify for that much.

      Delete
    2. I doubt any of the qualify for aid. And I really doubt that Kody spends a dime of his money on any of his kids. We always hear about the wives budgets, but never any indication what Kody is doing with his. My guess is it goes to toys and "retirement."
