Someone must have reminded the current Mrs Kody Brown that tonight's show was not all about her...

Meanwhile, Meri's having fun at Disney World...hmmm...y'all don't think Robyn's a tiny bit jealous Meri's having some fun, do ya?

Meanwhile, Kody does what Kody does best...he just retweets whatever Robyn has tweeted. And he wonders why Meri didn't take him on the cruise. Poor Kody...

  1. Tony’s Mexican side really shines thru…
NAME: Tony is a name of English descent
    BIRTHPLACE: USA
    CITIZENSHIP: American
RESIDENCE: Lake George Utah 87% White
    RELIGION: Mormon

Every time he talks about “white people".... hhmmmmmmmmmm

    1. Let me clarify also that I'm not disparaging the Mexican culture, just pointing out the irony of Tony being so vocal to separate himself from "white people"

    2. I can see Tony's point that he doesn't want to lose his heritage when he gets married. What's wrong with that?

      Delete
    3. My son-in-law says the same stuff that Tony does. Michael's family is not from Mexico. Michael was born in Texas and I never cared that his family was Hispanic. He didn't care that my family was Polish....so what the f***.

      Delete
    4. Idk. I feel like he makes a really huge deal out of the differences in race. I’m happy for everyone to love their own heritage. But then I’d expect him to understand that he must honor hers exactly as much as his.

    5. MrSpock is bored with culture "wars"---No one in MrSpock's family ever made a "big thing" about the family's heritage or spouses' heritage, and so on and so forth. Nothing wrong with acknowledging heritage or having fun with it, eating the food, but it can get so out-of-hand with some people being so "offended" at perceived "slights" or offended because someone doesn't think those traditions are the best thing since sliced bread or whatever....okay, done ranting.

    6. Mr Spock,
Agree. They have played this culture thing into tedium.

    7. Tony just freaks me out. Get bad vibes from that dude. He is going to be trouble for Mykelti. Hope I am wrong.

  2. It's so under-the-skin disturbing how Tony won't even say that Mykelti looked beautiful on her wedding day. He harped on her partial updo, since he wanted her hair down. Then, he went on about "Natural Mykelti," when her roots have been clearly visible all season, and her eyebrows and hair color are so obnoxiously off. Also, he is quoting Kody's polygamist wisdom too frequently. She'll have a sisterwife.

I think that some of her emotion on her wedding day is her joy from finally receiving positive attention from the family.

    3. Lisasumms, I would not be surprised at all. Add Mykelti's rejection by the LDS (which I doubt at least a little bit) and I can see Tony deciding that the Christine sub-cult is the way to go. Just like Kody and his dad did when they decided they wanted a little "extra."
Throw in Aspyn's capitulation to the cult, and voila!
      One big "extra" big family.

    4. Tony is definitely trying to channel Kody and will definitely have another wife or two in a couple of years.

    3. Has Sister Wives been cancelled for next season?

      Delete
    4. This is my opinion and it will likely make some readers angry. If so, please ignore it and go get a good night’s rest.

I’ve done a slow burn ever since the premiere of this slew of polygamy shows. They subtly praise a system that exploits women by stealing their youth/self worth/self respect, harms their children, and encourages “bleeding the beast.”

Why all the plural marriage shows? The “entertainment” industry is “nudging “ the public toward legally accepting polygamist marriage and the slippery slope which will inevitably follow...

Since marriage is no longer defined as one man/one woman (whether you agree with that or not), we will next see advocacy for polygamy as a legal form of marriage by those who seek to use any/all means to further erode our nation’s social and economic fabric.

England is already experiencing advocacy for polygyny (one husband/multiple wives) because of the marriage customs of the growing Muslim population. It is also being discussed in parts of certain north central US states for the same reason.

Next will be polyandry (one wife/multiple husbands), but this doesn’t have the legitimate economic necessity here that is found in certain other parts of the world, or the same “wow” factor as the patriarchal power/control grab of polygyny.

Polyamory—As I understand it, each member of a group is married to every other member of the group. An egalitarian power structure likely impossible in such a scenario, so wonder how that roost gets ruled.

Eventually, underage participants will be exploited and brought into these configurations of “marriage.” Nothing will make that crazy Warren Jeffs crowd happier.

All of this will further blur the lines of gay, straight, etc., continue to confuse the young, push the envelope of promiscuity, and waste the potential of those who are swept into these downward spirals, while our nation’s social services, entitlements, and social security system struggle even harder to sustain.

Maybe limiting marriage to one man/one woman (both of age) was best.

      Delete
    5. No.. no it wasn't best to stop gay people getting married. There there.. you're just a bigot, that's all. Gay marriage is two consenting adults and straight marriage is two consenting adults. The difference between gays and polygamists is that people are born gay but nobody is born a polygamist. Or a polyamorist. Gay people also don't create new life when they get together, where as polygamists can and do prolifically. You see the difference here? Gay marriage is about love, which straight married people can relate to because we also pair bond with someone, hopefully for life and therefore understand the need for emotional lifelong companionship with someone we're attracted to. Polygamy and Polyamory on the other hand are not about love but about patriarchal control, abuse and manipulation and cheating. They create imbalanced, abusive relationships and unhealthy, unstable environments for raising children and teach the new generations to devalue women and see life partners as replaceable.

      Delete
    6. Anonymous here again. Although I didn’t intend to say so because it didn’t seem particularly relevant, I have been a supporter of gay marriage. My point here is that changing the definition of marriage from one man/one woman has created the slippery slope. If legislation could have defined marriage for any and all time as the union of no more than two consenting adults, that would have been fine, but the “for any and all time” would only hold up until the next group (probably polygyny) came along wanting right to marry. I also have concerns about the economic impact on our entitlement and other programs if they become flooded with multiple spouses and their children, etc. For the most part, the remainder of your commentary indicates we are pretty much on the same page. Have a nice evening.

      Delete
    7. Stop with the bigot stuff. I don't think the person is a biggot. They are just explaining the ramifications of plural marriage. We have to remember the plygs (am I bigot now?? LOL) don't want to be legalized. They want to be decriminalized so they can still live off the government.

    1. Mykelti refused Janelle's gift of a fake fur stole for the ceremony, insisting that it would be dress only. Then, she takes his jacket. But, he walked down the aisle without any jacket. (All the "brosmen" did.)

    2. I don't understand why she wouldn't wear the gift faux fur from Janelle!? It was white and warm and thoughtful and perfect! If it was my gift, I'd be offended that she didn't wear it. Cover those damn arms. You don't get to complain that you're cold. You had a perfectly good coat to wear.

      Delete
    3. Because the offer of the jacket was planned all along. I've seen this stunt in more than a few ceremonies now cold or not. She didn't even once where it on camera which is the look you think of when a winter wedding is planned. But she went on and on over the antique jewelry and ugly huge pearl bracelets. I guess the stole wasn't tacky enough for her. Remember the theme was vintage- Mexican-tacky-chess-frisbee-outdoor-winter-10 taco, 10 cake chic.
The fur caplet was way to classy for that hot mess. I must say it was not as bad as I was expecting because no doubt TLC stepped in to smooth rough edges.

The other wives and Kody have a combined personal experience of almost 80 years in a plural marriage. Robchin has had one tenth of that!
Why do we have to hear her commentary?
I'd much rather hear Christine Allred explain difference since it is her daughter and she is a plyg princess.
And why does Robchin always have sick kids or she is sick. She can't eat certain foods, she was sick during family therapy and she uses the excuse of her kids being sick on many family get together. She has always been the damsel in distress for more attention from Kody, yuck!

The pinata was a bit obscene - first the bride pinata is hanging there, with its top falls off, then the back of her skirt falls off, and finally, her entire torso is beaten in a reverse decapitation. 25. So tired of hearing how ‘sacred’ polygamist weddings are. I had a full Catholic mass at my wedding and I considered that sacred. Im sure my Jewish, Mormon and Sikh friends consider their marriages sacred as well. I hate that the Browns demand that everyone is open to their beliefs and lifestyle but have seemingly no understanding of other religions or lifestyles.

    1. So sacred that Kody talks about being practically catatonic regarding his marriage to Christine.

      Delete
    2. Vondrid... he certainly isn’t catatonic now. Christine seems to be the chosen one. I guess now that she seems to be medicated and docile towards him, she is acceptable. Christine was practically falling over herself taking blame for Kody being late. Or perhaps she is being rewarded for Aspyn marrying well in the AUB community. It’s realky too bad because Christine is an amazing person and I feel she is crushing her soul trying to be who HE wants her to be. The wives know that if they don’t, they end up like Mari, lonely and ignored.

  26. The groom is the most under dressed person at this wedding. She is in a long, flowing gown with lots of jewelry and he is in a denim coat and pants and tennis shoes....couldn't even bother with a tie. With all this talk of AUB weddings being private, I wonder if Aspyn's wedding will be a private wedding.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Agreed, Leslie, the groom and bros-men are wearing street clothes...no rented tux here. Looks like Mykelti lost probably a fight over previously worn clothes from their personal wardrobe with new burgendy shirt and rented suit jackets??? Instead of uncomfortable tux. Tony clearly is all about comfort. Who knows, but it really stood out how under dressed the men in the bridal party were. I don't get it at all, it looked like all the guys forgot their tuxes.
Kody was dressed better than groom and that is not saying much, he seemed to have dark jeans on with his shined lounge singer jacket.
Bizarre choice for men's attire. But then again those comfy clothes left plenty of room for 10 tacos.

    2. If Aspyn has an AUB wedding, we won't see the actual vows. This part definitely is private, in that only endowed church members may attend. However, not all of the wedding is private; the reception usually isn't, so that non-AUB (or non-endowed) family members and friends can attend.

  27. I've read that the show is most likely cancelled and what we are seeing is from a year ago. But I think if they HONESTLY showed what is real in their lives now we, the viewers, would be intrigued again to watch. For example..1. Why is Caleb and Maddie living with Janelle--what is up with their lives. 2. Why is Janelle's mom Sheryl (who was Wynn's favorite wife) living with Janelle, is it financial because she wasn't his legal wife? Was she asked to leave? It's not like Janelle needs her to help with the kids. 3. Logan and Michelle are engaged. I enjoy following them on instagram. They are young and fresh and lead a happy, normal young people's life, and he is the 1st Brown boy to marry. Most likely this wedding will be planned and executed by her and her family. 4. Aspyn, oh Aspyn, the one child who has her head on straight and calls her Mom out when she is acting ridiculous, is marrying the son of a top dog AUB leader. This is an opportunity for a polyg crossover. Mitch's sister is a sister wife on Seeking Sister Wives, and also a sister to Rosemary Williams, sister wife of Brady Williams from My 5 wives. With all of this going on, TLC could do what they did with the Duggars. Re focus the show to follow the lives of the older married or getting married kids.

  29. Without any way to verify, if I didn't know any better I would swear some of the more ridiculous wedding "details" were scripted for enticement to insure decent ratings for this season.
A last gasp attempt to avoid the shark jump which apparently is looming.

Too many things stand out as manipulating for comment and snark, which of course, requires actually watching.
Too many scenes shot for use as previews to be aired day and night heralding the coming epp.
    Such as.....
The relentless clip all last week of everyone shouting "OMG, where's Kody ???" Then Kody filmed saying "I am sorry"...??? dum da dum, dum..
And as we know, it was simply all BS and hype.
SO....why was it necessary for Christine to say 3x "It was my fault"..?
Why was it necessary to even stage such a farce?
And even if it were TRUE, there were plenty of other Browns who could have gone to the hotel and gotten the "shirt."

Why was Kody scripted to be the decision maker about the kids not going out in the cold for the family pics.
What?....Sobbin has to have her lord and master give the nay on that. She couldn't say "no way, I have a sick kid"??
Yep...just the usual staged BS for Kody to shine.

SO Tony/Kody Jr is a hero because he gave Mykelti his coat as her arms and chest were turning red into blue....great, right! But what about the bridesmaids who were also freezing with even lighter, thinner dresses and only lace strips covering their shoulders?!!

There was SO much over the top nonsense in this that I wonder if way back when Mykelti gave the news that she too wanted a TLC wedding, TPTB sat them down and said okay, but you need to make it outrageous and bizarre...a ratings winner. (especially when they got a load of Tony and his MO)
Think about Tony sticking his fork in the cakes, stuffing his mouth. Watch Tony chomping his tacos like a 3 year old.
Have Tony wear jeans and not even a tie as his groomsman at least had on dress pants.

Indeed, have Christine "sing"...and film her singing in rehearsal to make sure the viewers would just HAVE to tune it and see the final performance. Rather mean-spirited of the producers.

And for sure, throw in an asinine scene about Kody's hair...

Have Sobbin alternate between her usual furrowed brow opinions on everything that is plyg and Brown family dynamics, and then on to her teary observations.

    Could go on and on.....

    1. Unfortunately, I deleted the PVR version as well, but it seemed to me that there were way fewer people at the wedding ceremony (empty seats) then all of a sudden a minute later the seats were full. I also wondered (like Amused) how much was staged. Did they do multiple takes to get it right? If Kody was truly late, wouldn’t all the seats be full as he walked Mykelti down the aisle?

  30. Am I the only one that believes Tony was cast for this role to make Kody look better? Kody is almost likeable compared to Tony who's behavior seems unreal and extreme.

And, can't believe I will say this, but Kody gave good advice regarding enjoying each other at the wedding. I wonder who told him to say those words?

This season compared to last seems like 2 different shows. Like they read every comment here and changed everything... and they all have taken a double dose of uppers... they almost seem to like each other this season.

This scenario makes sense to me after reading they took a massive pay cut to try to save the show from it's inevitable demise.

I will miss this trainwreck and the laugher and anger it brings my husband and me. I wish it was more real... it would have been renewed.

Lastly, Christine look gorgeous at the wedding... and that MOB shirt... I loved it!

    Honest and jmo snark here....
Kody's outfit looked straight out of the wardrobe manual for a lounge singer at any 3rd rate Vegas cocktail lounge. The coat was too short both in length and sleeves. Why not just a well-tailored suit??

Sorry, but those bouquets were not memorable. Color-combo was strange, and you know you didn't hit the minimum quality gauge when the bride exclaims that hers is already falling apart before the wedding.

The venue, as someone up-thread noted, certainly did not look like a wedding venue. It looked more like a place for holding golf tournaments, corporate seminars or fundraisers.
Really? The place didn't even have a private space, alcove, hallway to take family pics??
Speaking of the crowd scene, kudos to Logan and his lovely Michelle, who were spotted briefly as Kody began his "speech" and then disappeared out of camera range. They were smart (and classy) to stay out of it.

Yes, the less said about the pinatas the better..But seriously....
Who thought it was a good idea to let children see adults battering giant effigies of the bride and groom???? And then let some kids do it too!!??
Who didn't even consider how that was a vile, gross mocking of the abuse suffered by domestic abuse victims??

If the bride and groom didn't know that and really thought it was "cool" to do..What about the other "adults" involved, no one?....crickets??

And finally, what about the producers who okayed filming it and okayed using the footage?? Shame on all of them.
THAT scene was the biggest, sickest turnoff of the whole show ll!

That dark almost burgendy auburn was ridiculous looking. People would love to have all their "light and delightsome" hair and they dye it badly with box dye from Walgreens.
Tony's hair looked like Kody's used to years ago. And Kody was at an all time worst appearance in the hair department.

  38. Okay - I watched this episode in snatches.
When I was done, I deleted every one of the episodes on my DVR. :(

I am LDS. I love my faith. However (and this is a big however) I do not believe that polygamy was ever instituted by God. Period.

I used to go along with the show just b/c it was new and it "uncovered" the secret lives of polygamists. I actually grew to kind of like the family (even Robyn). :)

After listening to Kody talk about how hard it is for a polygamist MAN to get married (I thought this was Tony's wedding episode), I realized just how foul and absolutely repulsive polygamy is. I'm not sure why I didn't see it before. I mean, I knew that I could never do that (I don't care who the other woman is), but right now - today - I realized that this is so disgusting.

Kody says that it's hard on a MAN to get married b/c he cannot connect with his bride...as all of his brides look down. My heart broke for them. No doubt they were replaying in their minds the night they got married...and then the night that the other women went off with their husband. The pain that those memories must dredge up. Ouch.

Hard on the man? Puh-lease. That joker is getting a new flavor every day ... and believes it's sanctioned by God Himself.

That dude gets to (according to Kody) fall in love again and again.

And, I'm thinking...why can't the woman fall in love again and again.

And it now seems so disgusting. And it's not even the sex part that grosses me out. It's the whole "poor Kody" and other Poly men. They have it rough. And the poor women rush to console the man. How twisted?

I think this blog says it best at the top - if you look too closely, it's pretty scary.

    Amen to that.

And that is why I am choosing to leave them out of my life. They bring feelings of dirt and disgust and I do not need that junk around. I choose things which are uplifting.

So, to all of you lovely people who have made this journey for me fun and snarky at times, thank you. It has been fun

  39. I think Janelle and Christine both seemed genuinely happy (and not just prescription induced) at their respective daughters weddings. They were stars in Kody's eyes, the main wife at each wedding. Has me thinking Meri really is an outsider. Now her daughter, at best, will marry a woman. Maddie married her aunt's brother. Plus Janelle had so many boys for him. Mykelti married a Kody Jr that thinks Kody is wise. Aspyn is on her way to AUB royalty. Mariah, Meri's ONLY child, is gay! No matter how he acts for the cameras...Meri failed in his eyes. She will never be the STAR wife at a wedding. There is nothing left for them.
Also, Tony is a slob! What does he do? They say he is in banking but there is no way with how sloppy he is. Plus, he hangs out at a pawn shop. I guess a pawn shop is a bank if you put a Brown spin on it! I agree with previous posters. He will have a sisterwife in no time. He is a control freak that would love women fighting over his nasty azz.

    2. Your post really resonates with me because these are the two things about this show that makes my stomach ill.

      1) Meri is depressed. I genuinely feel concerned for her. Your right, her only daughter is never going to have the traditional lifestyle with a marriage (to a man) and babies (the old fashioned way). That’s a huge deal to any parent that is even moderately religious or conservative. She was probably banking on the fact that since she couldn’t have more kids she at least can live vicariously through her daughter. I foresee a very dark future for Meri. All her sister wives kids getting married and having kids is salt into the wound.

      2) Toni IS a slob. From everything to the way he eats to the lack of filter on what he says. He has no self respect. Furthermore he gives me a very uneasy vibe due to his controlling behavior. The fact that Mykelti went for him is a huge red flag to her self esteem.

Both of these points reinforce the toxic effects of the polygamist lifestyle on its victims.

      Delete
    3. I loooooved (not) that nasty cuticle/fingernail spit.

      Delete
    4. Agreed.... Meri is absolutely depressed. Who can blame her. She has lost the most since they decided to do this show. She was the official wife and didn’t have to hide in the shadows like Janelle and Christine. She had a career that she enjoyed and (if I remember correctly) was let go from. Her favorite wife status was usurped by the younger, thinner, more attractive Robyn. Then she was forced to officially give up her first wife status by being coerced into divorcing Kody. Her chance at freedom turns out to be a catfish and her relationship with her only daughter is in shambles.

      Delete
    5. I don't feel bad for Meri. Her chickens have come home to roost.
The Janelle/Meri therapy has to be for the cameras. I doubt Janelle gives a crap anymore because at this point she is higher than Meri on the totem pole and seems to be in great standing with Kody.

  40. Christine's singing. My 10yo daughter walked in while I was watching the show. The look on my own kid's face said it all.
What in the heck did we all just listen to?

Poor woman. Someone should have loved her enough to encourage her to NOT sing.

Mykelti's dress - I am not a fan of the dress. Her back fat was not attractive. I'd have the same problem (if I had any boobs in the front), so I would never, ever wear something that made my back fat spill out like that. Couldn't someone have told her to keep looking for a better-fitting dress?

Tony is definitely coming across as controlling.

I hated my hair at my wedding, but you know what? My groom told me that it was amazing (liar - lol). He never, ever made me feel bad about my wedding day. Tony on the other hand? What a jerk.

I'd love to see how Mykelti handles it when Tony tells her that he is ready to get it on with another wife. ha ha! Everyone says that M is so strong - I'm not so sure she would be. I think she would just go along with it to keep Tony around.

Most of the guest that looked like plyg's, we know, and there were Hispanic folks. since I didn't see a lot of unknown people that weren't Hispanic I'm thinking many plygs like mentioned at Kody/Robchin wedding did not want to go public and value their anonymity. However Tony was the one yelling 400- and I didn't see 200 on his side of the venue, he is crazy. His side was empty not Mykelti's. Even if guest were mixed up in crowd, it didn't seem like their were so many for Tony.

    4. I think that the people who didn't consent to filming were sitting on the far right. That section was full and only shot from distances. However, even in the crowd scenes, there were very few people outside of the bridal party, and they looked like the parents' contemporaries.

Robyn should have had the family wreath and friends there, since she and Mindy are from St. George and her parents live(d?) there. In fact, it amazes me that the show seemingly pretended otherwise.

Given the buffet line in full force during Kody's speech or toast, and the lack of interest in his remarks and the couple themselves, I almost think that the reception was open to the general church or community. We never saw anyone trying to reach the bride & groom to congratulate them, or the bride and groom trying to visit each table or greet the crowd.

"I decided to make a career change. Monday a new chapter started for me. Read my story below, and send me positivity ✨ #latergram

For the past 4 years I've been a stay at home mom. After working as a teacher in the public school system and facilitator in the homeschooling community, I knew that being home with my children was the best move for all of us, especially during their early years of development. It's been rewarding, it's been challenging, but most of all it's been just what was needed to allow me the space to be the mother and wife I desired to be, with just enough creative space to find inspiration in any other way I chose. Now that my babies are no longer infants, I've been really itching to break out into the world, and create a life full of endless possibilities.

During this time, I've also been a Zumba and Dance Instructor, and started my own holistic adornment business. I do health and wellness consultants from time to time (I'm working toward a certification:), and I make my own health and beauty products, as well as playing with food in the kitchen. This has all been fun and fulfilling to my spirit. But now I need more...

I've always enjoyed the arts. As I mentioned in my video, I spend a lot of time playing around in front of the mirror (and camera). I'm usually dancing, singing, or role playing situations with myself--most of which are real life scenarios I may have to face (and probably ones I've been avoiding). I'm naturally an expressive person, but sometimes I can be quite shy, so this allows me to be that person I want to in real life, or maybe even the person I don't want to be, but enjoy pretending I am (my alter ego still needs a name)

I'm moved by energy, by circumstances, by the spirit of many different people and stories. When I watch a good film, I'm so inspired by how actors bring those characters to life, and suck you in as if what's happening on screen directly affects everything that you are and everything that you know to be true. Being deeply connected to the human spirit, and having a desire to change the world, adding my own unique voice and understanding to the mix, acting is the perfect career move to make that happen. Plus the film industry in Atlanta is growing and there are so many opportunities here!

Whether I have the talent/skill or not is another story but I'm signing up for acting classes in the Chubbuck and Meisner techniques, and I'm attending/submitting for background and extra casting calls just to get my feet wet! I've even written the treatment for an idea I have for a show, complete with the script for the first episode. Some of my favorite people, people who are changing the world, are actors. I've found that I'm most attracted to people who are passionate about life, living, and giving, and my favorite actors have both the talent and the humanity to make a lasting impression. I AM next!

  44. 2 other observations, if the other moms are truly as important in polygamy as they claim why didn't the other three moms at least color coordinate outfits with the wedding? They didn't need to be as fancy as Christine's get up, but they could've at least wore silver, gray, or burgundy to show that they were part of the wedding party. Why were they just seated as guest, why didn't they walk with the wedding party as part as of the family of the bride? Just more hypocrisy as usual.
Second observation -did anyone notice that Robchin did not rise for the bride or stand as the procession came down. She couldn't even stand for a minute? I know she was holding her baby, but dang she doesn't even fake that she cares unless the camera is straight on her.

And...."And it's not even the sex part that grosses me out. It's the whole "poor Kody" and other Poly men. They have it rough. And the poor women rush to console the man. How twisted"!?

Yes, Just Me, this has been my ongoing dilemma through these years of watching SW/The Kody Show !!

Why..Why would any normal functioning woman subject herself *and her children* to such a fractured life with a "husband and father of her kids" who will always be doling out attention and affection according to the plyg rotation process?
WHY ???? Why would any woman/mother do that ??

What sadly became apparent early on in the show is that these women are either programmed to accept and expect less from their early plyg conditioning, like Meri and Christine.
Or they are not plyg-oriented by birth, but are seriously lacking in fundamental self-esteem like Janelle.
Sobbin/Robyn is a hybrid who married mono, but apparently craved the plygworld from her birth conditioning. (And she had bills to pay after her divorce, so being the new flavor on a hit plyg show was a bonus)

Matters not what brings these women to accept the plyg life, what impacts viewers is how pitiful they present themselves as they strive to puff up the Plyg master, as they strive to "matter" to him.

Kody Brown thinks he is being an orator for things Plyg when he proclaims that plyg men have a HARD time with their plural weddings. He whines that he "had" to be distracted at his weddings because he knew his other wives were struggling to keep sweet as he pledged his loved to yet another bed-mate.

Polygamy is a one-way glory buzz for the harem masters. Sex and adoration on demand !!
For the women, it is a lifetime of accepting less, and even more less as they age out and get replaced.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It is always bizarre to wonder why these women choose a small portion of a man, be a single parent of a bunch of kids, to always feel negative emotions of jealousy and envy.
Finally, from personal experience it is so hard to age even with a loving mate. I can't imagine being ignored, shunned and replaced 3 times over with younger and better looking women until I die, alone.
What in the world is the draw?
      Sisterwives friendships? They don't exist.
Built in babysitters? Clearly these women don't help each other on the regular.
Large family? To feel alienated from, like Meri.

For this man-child to be my salvation and ticket to heaven would truly be hell on earth.

      Delete
    2. Lisasumms, you hit the nail on the poofy (a la Kody) head with that last line. It's all about making it to the Celestial Kingdom. And from what I have read, polygamy is hell on earth for the women (virtually in every case).

Although the LDS church repudiated polygamy on earth, Joseph Smith was very clear about the role of polygamy in God's restoration of Christianity. If you genuinely believe (or were taught to believe) that plural marriage is the only way to reach the Celestial Kingdom, then a woman might be willing to tolerate just about anything to make that happen.

Every other defense of plural marriage - knowing ahead of time if a man is a good father, having the support of sister wives, the benefits of having lots of kids who can grow up together - really doesn't add up to a lot. It's all about the priesthood and Celestial Marriage.

Otherwise, why would a beautiful girl like Christine or smart gal (and pretty) like Janelle settle for part of a husband. It doesn't make sense without the religious element. In my view, there is literally no other reason to do it.

Which brings me to the Atlanta couple on Seeking Sister Wife - they're the couple who want a sister wife for the fun of it. That just doesn't make sense to me. The only reason to agree to a sister wife is because of the religious element.

Even in other cultures where polygamy is tolerated (like Bahrain), there is no religious imperative or reward. Islam allows for polygamy (up to 4 wives) but doesn't encourage it (it's hard to be fair to all them so better not to try) and there are no special rewards in heaven for living it. Women may tolerate polygamy but aren't expected to like it or want to live it.

  46. I feel sick about the pinatas every time they talk about them. And they trot out that they are great for weddings and getting your anger out. It's your wedding day. Why would you be in such a rage you need to beat something? Why are you letting anger be an emotion you are focusing on during your wedding? I am sick of Mykelti's oblivious blank stare when she talks about herself and all these things she is entitled to and basically anything. I am so over having those two on the couch. I can't believe after this many seasons I found 2 new characters in this mess to be put off by.

I don't know who bothered me more Kody and his "This executive decision is a bad one." or Mykelti and "It's MY day and MY choice." Apple and tree and all that business.

My husband said Christine's singing was giving him a headache and I had to turn it off to watch later. It upsets me because I like Christine and think in spite of her 12 ear old at a slumber party with way to much sugar moods that she is really genuine. I feel like she was steered in such a bad direction here. I hate that that was filmed. I feel like everyone just guided her into such a bad place.

I couldn't believe after all these episodes where people openly admitted they didn't help her with flowers they talked about how this wedding would be talked about in regards to how everyone in the family helped with flowers. ??? You mean how Christine slaved away by herself? Alrite.

  50. Despite all the snarking that routinely goes on here, probably most were willing to at least try to not be too brutal about a young woman's wedding.
However, Mykelti's thoroughly obnoxious attitude and behavior signaled gloves were off for being snarky objective.
Mykelti was ridiculously belligerent and ungracious. She knew the cameras were rolling for every tacky scene. She most likely begged for it to be every bit as filmed as Maddie's wedding was.
And it sure looks like the TLC folks were more than happy to edit and air all the nasty footage they showed, knowing the reaction it would generate from viewers.
Mykelti is a very naive *child* if she really didn't know any better than to act the way she did.....knowing that the world would see it.
Won't even include Tony/Kody Jr in this opinion since he is simply a glaring and creepy reflection of what makes Mykelti tick. She wanted to be married, wanted the wedding, wanted the family's show to film it.
The fact that her choices include Tony are on her. He needs to become forgettable.
Christine did sing and it was not a great performance, but there were far worse things about that wedding than Christine's song. What was annoying was how many times we had to hear how she "was nervous"..
THAT part was getting ridiculous. It was an annoying mirror image of the last episode when Janelle droned on and on about not wanting to dance or lip sinc.
TLC...get a clue....Those relentless, repetitive scenes are ratings killers. Just like what next week's will be as the Meri/Janelle saga is regurgitated AGAIN.
    Why, TLC? Just Why?

I do think Christine could have looked prettier and more her age in a different color and style dress. She is in her mid to late 40's, that outfit was matronly.
The gray/silver color was too subdued and dull to do her, or Aspen for that matter, any favors. jmo.

    1. I agree Amused. I don’t support snarking about the kids, but Mykelti and Tony are entitled children who are not ready for marriage. I predict they also will be moving back in with the parents as they don’t seem to have real jobs. Mykelti’s couch monologues were annoying and seemed completely scripted. Tony is so similar to Kody that I want to yell at the TV every time he’s on air. This is what happens when a father has too many children and can’t possibly give them all the love and attention they deserve—they end up trying to fill that void in inappropriate ways. This is especially true for daughters.

  51. It's me - the anonymous first time poster from above. Sorry if I came on a little strong with my first post. It's just getting harder over time for me to watch and listen to Meri. No matter what brought each of them to this polygamous life their each there now and have been for years. Kody is insignificant to me. The show has always been about the women and what they do with this mess they're in. I believe Janelle, Christine & Robin really do think of all the kids (they're own plus the bonus) as part of their family. I think they want good things for each of them. Polygamist or not you have to be accountable as a parent. When Meri said - I'm just not going to help with their kids, did she not consider how the children would feel about that comment? We all know the children will hear about that. I think thats just hurtful and unkind. It's certainly not what you'd think a bomus Mom could say or feel. Meri has had a chance fimancially over these last years that the show has been on to get out. I think Meri was self centered long before she married into polygamy. I have two last observations to make. I'm sorry especially for the younger children. Life after the show is going to be very different for them. I hope they don't miss out on the opportunities the older children have had. Lastly if they wanted this show to last they should have been honest about their true relationships. They weren't fooling anyone. Now others in the polygamist community will be only to happy to take your air time. Thank you to CJ and all of you. You have provided so much entertainment over the years.

  52. In the pre-Robin years, how did K decide with whom to celebrate Valentine’s Day? Rotation? Family celebration so no wife singled out?

    1. MrSpock remembers an episode where he bought 4 bouquets of flowers...one for each...but cannot remember if that was for Valentine''s Day...

    2. I remember that episode. Kody was filmed at the florist making sure that he picked bouquets especially for each wife....he knew what flowers and colors each of them liked. When it came time to give them to the wives, he forgot who he picked the flowers out for and the wrong bouquets to the women. I thought that was hilarious.

    3. I’m pretty sure that plot was for Mother’s Day. It was all about Kody telling the florist that he had four wives and how he had to make sure that each bouquet was different. Kody was all aglow announcing his virility....like a straggly-haired peacock.
As always, it was about him!

    4. Ha Ha! Exactly ! A straggly haired peacock...strutting his stuff....

  53. Seeking Sister Wife----

Dimitri, WTF... how could he do that to his PREGNANT wife?! I screamed HOLY SH*T so loud my son came running to see what was wrong. His poor wife, her facial expression changed so quickly and she became pale. My heart broke for her. I truly think that exchange proved they shouldn't be in a polygamy relationship. Dimitri was like a kid in a candy store with that girl. I was quite disturbing.

The family with the 3 wives, they keep saying how they have to lie so no one knows about their lifestyle. Ummm, do they not realize they are on TV!?!?!? And everyone will see it! Are they pretending the cameras aren't there? They don't think people know what's happening when people see a bunch of kids and 3 grown women living with one man.

I truly want April to join the Brown family. I want to see the havoc she would create with Robyn. Omg... April vs Robyn, who's more manipulative? Ratings would be through the roof.

Anyone know if this show is legit? I don't trust TLC to ever tell the truth.

So...On the Snowden sitch, I posted above the link to Ashley's youtube video talking about how she was going into acting...

I don't think a single thing about their story line is real. She wanted a tv paycheck. I don't even think he slept with that girl. She came out of central casting, and when he hugged her too tight, she commented on it, he put her in a car, and they parted ways...that's my honest guess. I think their story is all fake because they weren't able to find any people of color who actually wanted in on this disgusting lifestyle.

    2. My reply won't post... I tried twice.

Thanks for the info. I am not at all shocked if it's all fake. Reality tv isn't based on reality.

I appreciate you posting the info. I scrolled past it cuz we binged the show yesterday, so when you posted I wasn't even watching the show yet.

  54. Now that this show is winding down: wouldn't this show have been much better if they hadn't avoided talking about the religious beliefs?

I would have really been interested to know how they think their living the Principle brings them closer to Heavenly Father and how it keeps them going when times are hard. I would also like to know how their faith informs some of their decisions and what is it like to live the Principle outside of a like-minded community of believers like they had in Lehi. What are their views on the Celestial Kingdom and how does the hope of an eternal family influence their commitment to Kody and the family?

I think these potential plot lines would have been more interesting than the inane ones they came up with (wet bar, anyone?).

    1. I agree. Up thread, someone was asking why these women would ever submit to polygamy. I didn't answer, because it would take too long, but the very simplified gist of it is, they do it because they don't believe they have a choice. This is the only way for them to make it to the Celestial Kingdom. They don't really have another way, unless they want to be subservient in the afterlife, so they try to convince themselves that they are somehow "happier" this way, or their marriages are somehow "better." In order to face the fact that neither of these two things are true, they'd have to face the fact that their entire religion and their understanding of heaven might not be true, either.

    2. The Brown Family has been an interesting social experiment on what happens to people raised in this religion and removed from their closed community. Without the constant indoctrination from an early age (not counting Kody's hit or miss Sunday sermons) their kids will have a fighting chance to think for themselves and reject their parent's religion. The polygamous communities that still remain rely on isolation, fear and intimidation to keep members faithful.

  55. I've also been a long time lurker but want to share my thoughts on Janelle. She's my favorite wife and for years I've felt sorry for her, thinking she seemed to always get the short end of the stick but in the last year I've come to the conclusion that she is the only wife that is satisfied with the whole arrangement.

To begin with, Kody considers her his equal...he stated early on that she is his best friend. Janelle doesn't want to take care of a man full time. She lets the other wives worry about things like cooking and laundry and she enjoys her time with Kody. The rest of the time she gets to live her life the way she wants. When she met Kody, it was love/lust at first sight. She also has that extra connection with Kody's family since her mother and Kody's father were married. Her kids had a much closer relationship with Kody's family. There's is also the fact that she gave Kody all those sons he is so proud of. Yep I think Janelle has always been Kody's favorite. Her only downside has been her relationship with Mary but I blame that on Mary's extreme jealousy. In that situation, I think Kody's sympathies were always with Janelle and Mary knew it. If I were Mary, I would be jealous too.

    1. Not sure that Kody considers Janelle his equal. The Plyg concept doesn’t really provide for that dynamic for any wife to be on equal footing with the master.
What seems to have been shown is that Kody is the most compatible with Janelle based of her passive personality. She exhibits the needed qualities of a woman who is one of many.
A wife who gives no feedback, no bitching, no expressed trauma stemming from or about the process is the perfect Plyg wife.
Also on the show, Kody never had to deal with Janelle stealing the limelight with any histrionics, personal opinons opposed to his, or overt displays of individuality like the other three in his harem have done on camera. Janelle has been the perfect “keeping sweet” TV Plyg wife.

Throw in the fact that Janelle seems to only step out of her passive role when it is time to be Kody’s cheerleader and feed is his ego, it is no wonder she could be his favorite non-legal wife.

And if Janelle really is sublimely content with her Plyg life, so be it. Wish her well!

  56. Lisasumms' upthread comment about accepting such a small portion of a man made me think of something. What if the Brown wives, for reasons of their own, just wanted a "small portion" of a man? I know women who specifically target military men in deployable positions because they know the husbands will be away for months at a time. While hubby is gone, they act like single women. Don't believe me? Get a friend with a military dependent ID card to take you to your closest enlisted, NCO, or officers' club while a large percentage of the servicemembers are deployed. You'd never know those soldiers are gone. The dance floor is packed, the cocktails are flowing (they pour doubles for the women), and there's nothing but fun, fun, fun. While the Brown women don't seem to want to run around on Kody (except for Meri), there's something to be said for having to worry about a mere 25% of a husband's needs--especially a husband like Kody. Each of them gets the full legitimization of marriage but only has to cough up a quarter of the work. I wouldn't want to do it, but I think I can understand why Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn want to. None of them seems particularly ambitious, motivated, interested in self-improvement, or confident enough to think they could do better

And as a side note, I did like Kody's advice to Mykelti and Ten Taco Tony about staying connected on their wedding day. (That's probably the first string of intelligent words I've ever heard him utter.) The best think about my wedding in the early 21st Century was that the Man of the House and I felt that we had made a soul connection and were now showing it. I know we have about 175 guests, but really, if it weren't for the photos, I'd swear it was just the two of us. It was a great day and a great beginning for what has become the most important aspect of my life. I wish that for Tony and Mykelti, for Madison and Caleb, for Mariah and Audrey, for Aspyn and Mitch, and for all the Brown kids and their parents...and all of you.
