  2. Wow that is alot of shameless promotion for MSWC in those tweets. Looking forward to the show tonight. Wonder if TLC is going to be "auditioning" the plyg Christian family for their own show by having them on this episode? Perhaps My 5 Wives or Sister Wives will be getting the boot and they need a replacement show.

    1. how many polygamy shows could there be? I only watched a portion of a couple of the M5W eps.

    2. DakotaJustice: I don't know, but I hope they keep trying to create them until they find a family that is willing to really show and talk about the issues. As others have stated better than I can in prior discussions, I want to see the show that focuses on the wives discussing and resolving their issues, having one on one honest discussions. And shows that show more about the day to day lives and how they real "share" time. That's the show I want to see.

  5. I really hate back door pilots, but have to watch to follow along with the posts here. I didn't watch last week and felt like I was missing out, so I started it an hour ago but couldn't finish.

So far, I don't think I like this family. It's like they have read all the posts about the Browns, and are trying to do what they think the viewers want from the Browns.

  6. Ok so buckle your seatbelts, we have biblical polygamists partaking in a Passover (Pesach) Seder meal with fundamentalist Mormons...and Kody gives a blessing in Hebrew...

    1. Well fair is fair. I hope before the episode ends they also celebrate Ramadan and then travel to Mecca for Hajj later in the year. After all, Mohammad was descended from Ishmael, a product of polygamy so I'm sure the Browns can find a way to wiggle a testimony for Islam into their faith. I'll await with great expectation watching the family welcomed to the celebration and seeing the Kodster leading those prayers, too.

    2. There's an episode of Sister Wives we'll never see, where Muslim polygamy is discussed.

      Delete
    3. Anon 6:58: only Muslims are allowed into Saudi Arabia for hajj and the cities of Mekka and medina are forbidden for non-Muslims year round (they even have special non Muslim lanes on their highways). No kodiliciousness there ;)

    4. Lobotomized: What? Really? Huh. Well maybe if Kody explain….no no no, wait! Maybe is ROBYN explained it to them, they'd understand? She could explain how Kody and the crew love all those "cool guys" in the old testament who were polygamists, including Abraham and Ishmael. And explain that they're really just a normal family trying to practice the faith-of-old and help enlighten the world in the process. And Kody could quote some verses from the Qur'an [I'd suggest 4:3] and point out that he stopped at 4 wives because that's the limit Islam put on it because it's hard to be fair beyond that number and he really respects the faith. I'd think the polygamist Muslims would appreciate the Brown's helping them make the world a more inclusive and welcoming place, right? And as a back-up plan, if it turns out they really won't be welcomed at Mecca, maybe they could just visit a Muslim Polygamist family in the US to celebrate a holiday together? NPR did a story about it several years ago, maybe the producers can start there to find someone to highlight?

    5. I'm Jewish. Definitely felt very offended by their seder. Wrong on so many levels.

    6. Anon 12:43pm: I feel you. This was a very uncomfortable episode. And I am also regularly, personally offended by this show on many levels for its disrespect of multiple other faiths, including my own.

What the heck happened to TLC as a network? Remember when they first started? Talk about loving your sense of purpose and vision!

  7. Oh God Kody and his messed up conceptions of Judaism! I've only seen his tweets (haven't seen the episode yet), so I don't know how much shame he brings upon Jews this time. Ill comment on it after I see it!!!

    1. It was bad. Fortunately it was a short clip. I always think it is interesting that the same non-Jews who think it is so "cool" to lead a seder are the same people who will condemn us to hell for not accepting JC as our lord and savior. Anyway... suffice it to say I, as a Jew, was not amused. Co-opting others religious observances to make oneself appear "tolerant" is just not acceptable in my book. Remember when the celebrated Chanukah one season? Same thing. As for the Richards... seems to me he had his eye on the pretty girl from church and was trying to justify filling up his cookie jar with some fresh inventory. That the first wife went along with it doesn't surprise me since being a "submissive" wife she was already primed to accept another woman in her husband's bed.

      Delete
    2. Anon 12:53: It was very bad. And not the first time they've done it, as they have been co-opting elements of other multiple faiths the entire series. It's all offensive to many people from many walks of life.

    2. Me too, she's a toddler but yet I feel like "frail" is the word I'd use to describe her...

      Delete
    3. She's not really a toddler anymore. Four is like pre-k age, I don't remember carrying my children around much when they were four, especially not wrapped up in blankets. Is this normal?

      Delete
    4. I don't have kids but that struck me as strange also. Climbing on a lap for a hug or snuggle time yeah, sure. But bundled with blankets like that I almost wondered if it was Solomon taking a nap?

      Delete
    5. I haven't seen the swaddling or carrying yet, but maybe Christine is just being over protective? She pointed out in a previous episode (Truely's birthday episode) that this was the first birthday/trip since her hospitalization...maybe she's just over compensating with comfort? You know, babying her a bit because she was so sick, is on a big chaotic trip, and isn't very rough and tumble?
I might have to reassess after watching the clips, but I could imagine my mom 'babying' me in a stressful situation.

    6. I think something is very wrong with Truely and, for once, they don't want to broadcast the details.

    Replies
    1. Oh I here ya about the crying. When the one wife started it, I thought, give me a break. Can anyone on these reality shows give a couch interview without crying?? I don't see that much crying in real life, so what gives? Do they think it makes them sensitive? And we, the viewers, want to see sensitive? If it is real, I don't mind. Like Janelle, she tries real hard to hold in tears, and to stay strong, and she does a good job. Only a few times did she let tears fall. She can talk and describe her feelings/emotions without tears. Why can't the rest???

    1. Robyn never seems very interested in anything they do anymore as a family, and she never seems interested in anything anyone else has to say in the couch interviews either. I have been watching her expressions and mannerisms and unless it is about her, she just doesn't engage in conversation. We all get bored at conversations at times, all of us. But it is rude to not ask questions or be involved in the conversation with a smile or something. She seems so bored and checked out, unless it is with or about her and Kody. And Sol. (sry if this posted twice, it wouldn't let me post the first time)

    2. Seems like she'll either be preggers or they'll start laying the foundation for wife #5. Have we ruled out the possibility that Christine would ever become pregnant again? Now that would be a surprise. But, of course Kodouche would have to get over his utter revulsion of her. Did you see some of the looks he gave her on the couch in this episode? I'm already stocking up on No-doze for next week's episode with the photo montage. Geez... family slides. Sounds exciting (NOT).

      Delete
    3. I don't really think Robin will announce a pregnancy, I think maybe she will let them all know that they got the money they were trying to get. I personally think even Robin is starting to see what a fake Kody really is. She just doesn't seem to have the same glimmer in her eyes when she looks at him these days, and we all heard her tell him she didn't give a sh!t, when he tried to quiet her when she pitched a fit about the snow. I'd say the honeymoon is over!

  15. These poor women. The thing about the children and the childless and the feelings of importance and the men just being the center of these messed up women's lives. I don't care what they say or the brave front they put on for the public, Meri said it best when she said the good days are good but on the bad days....; it just makes me feel so sorry for these women. And then they make fun of this family, really? I am still thinking about the MO family. Geeze. Christine uses the animal kingdom, like chickens and roosters, to justify that PLYG is fine. Kody once used the lion family. You can justify anything by using the animal kingdom...guppies eat their young...male lions kill all the babies of other male lions so if they are going to use the lion kingdom, Kody, well you got those kids by that other man...; roosters, really Christine. If you put more roosters with the hens, more than one rooster will breed with the hens...they are so pathetic. I have to stop

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I am an experienced flock owner of free range hens and roosters, and I can say with certainty that they don't break off and form polygamist relationships with one rooster and multiple hens. If anything, it's the other way around, and I have to break it up when I see several fellas standing in line.

      Delete
    2. I thought what the little girl initially said was kind of interesting, that the hens were too busy chasing the rooster to sit on their eggs. I suppose if we wanted to try and compare chickens to humans one could deduce that polygamous women may not be able to tend to their children properly as they are always vying for the attention of their husband. But seriously, that would be comparing chickens to humans. Which is ridiculous.

You my friend are just a horndog!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes! I agree he did not go into this based on religion. I have my own opinion on plural marriage in the bible, but I am leaving it out of this living room, and keeping it in my own. But, I will say, that when he was talking about how he was reading his bible in the living room, and he told his wife he wished he had a "Rebeccca" (her name) to snuggle with on the couch, and another R in the kitchen cooking dinner, which is what she was doing at the time he told her this, I thought, Yeah right buddy, I bet you do! He wants wives attention, and for them to cook his meals, and make him king, and he needs more than wife to fulfill all these things at once, because he can't be like a normal man and just wait on his wife to quit cooking dinner, or even go help her cook dinner, (gee, what a concept ) or snuggle up to her while she's cooking dinner, noooo, he wants more than one wife so he can have it all at the same time. He said it people. He wishes he had a Rebecca to cook him dinner, and a Rebecca to snuggle with him at the same time. Nothing biblical about that. He, like others, take polygamy and mold it to their needs and wants, and call it a new type of plyg religion. I can't keep up personally. I do think Kody IMO, wanted to please his Dad, and he switched religions in order to do so, and take in more than one wife, to show his Dad that he could be a righteous son, and do right by Gods word, and by his own Father, and that was an easy way to do it. He needed his Dads approval I believe. He still carries that with him today I believe. Forgive me if I am wrong, but saying this based on what the show has aired.

    1. The tears were about Richard wife #2, who hasn't had a baby yet and has been a "wife" for 5 years.

The sharing a bedroom was that the Richards know people who know people who are plural and share the bedroom.

I think the Richard wives each have their own room?

      Delete
    2. Ayce, I first thought that too but I really think they skirted around the issue without answering that specifically about themselves and after giving it much thought, my opinion is that the Richards do share a bedroom. I could be wrong of course but they obviously live in a double wide mobile home that I can't imagine having more than 4 bedrooms. They have 9 kids so I cannot imagine splitting 9 children (boys and girls) into two mobile home bedrooms.

    5. It could be that...but I think that it may be time for Kody to go "a courtin." The ratings slump plus the threat of two new plyg families; Joe's group and now the ones introduced last night are potential threats. Maybe that 'plains the long face on Robyn.

    7. Well it was a short season. Smaller paycheck for the Klowns. Perhaps that is why that investor money was so sought after and they are aggressively pushing MSWC at every turn. Has anyone noticed any product placements for the green goo in any of the shows this season? Maybe they've given up on that get-rich-scheme. My hunch is there will be another book soon. Wonder if they'll try to force the teens to write a book like the Duggar teen girls recently wrote?

      Delete
    8. This will not be the first tie they've aired a season in 2 halves. I can't recall if it was 4 or 5, but they aired it in two section and if you watch it on Netflix or purchase it, it's all one big season. TLC does this with a few of their reality series.

Also, the book by the Duggar girls was really quite good. Interesting.

      Delete
    9. I have problems with the Duggars on a lot of levels - but you have to admit they walk their own walk and are authentic. I'm sure the girls' book is great. At least they probably are are being truthful about their beliefs. The Klown Krew are such posers - grifters really. As the seasons roll on I find it harder and harder to believe any of their lifestyle is truly about their religious beliefs. I think Kodouche just wants his little Kody to have some variety and this was a way to justify it. He suckered these women into it somehow - heaven only knows especially now that he's sporting the Pebbles look now.(Yes, I admit I'm filled with snark today after sitting through last night's show.)

    2. The only thing that really struck me strange was the synchronized eating practice of the Richard family.

The kids doing their little lineup, that was cute and also a good "in case of emergency" type drill.

      Delete
    3. I agree Hagar. As I said earlier, some of these people just take a snippet of what is in the bible, and twist it and mold it into what fits them and their purposes. I won't go into detail as to what place I believe Polygamy came from, and has today, as I think we should show respect to CJinx and keep our religious beliefs out of the living room, as to not get into something we are not all going to agree on anyway, but I will say, they are just picking and choosing the parts they want to use and not giving a good enough biblical reason to live this lifestyle. I just see it as this family (him) wanting more than one woman in his life, and this religion was a good excuse to get it. Sorry to anyone to who may think otherwise, but I'm just giving my opinion on what I see from the show. So strange to me that Meri still isn't comfortable with this lifestyle/religion of theirs. I do not think it is normal, or the way God intended, or else these women would be and feel content and happy at least most of the time. I think it is unnatural and that is why she still feels uncomfortable in it.

      Delete
    4. Jules, those are my thoughts too....and that is why I feel bad for the M5W's because Brady has told them they are leaving the religion which has now confused the wives on their "after life", it's all just a shame because these men and their control. Ugh! So disturbing....I actually just watch these shows for the laughs (as disturbing as it is).

    1. But did you read Christine referred to her as her "best worker". There was also a reference to not having the older kids on the vacation to "work" at one point a couple weeks ago. This family has always used their children to parent the younger children. I hope the college kids fly away from this lifestyle and don't look back. If the Sister Wives were being cooperative and helping each other raise each others' families then the older kids wouldn't have to be mini-parents themselves.

      Delete
    2. I don't think it's bad for children in a family to assume responsibilities and share in the running of the household and helping out with their younger siblings. As a member of a community of any sort, whether a family, a household, a team, a business or a civil community, everyone needs to do their part and contribute. I think it's also good for kids and adults to have some downtime to refresh and have fun, but I think as a culture we've moved too far in that direction with our youth. It sets an unrealistic expectation for them about what life really requires and doesn't teach them the values and skills they'll need to be successful. It's startling to see so many adults - not kids, adults, over 18, over 20, over 26 - still living at home and not really having a drive to contribute to the household nor much sense of drive to find a way to gain their independence. Too many seem very comfortable being taken care of forever.

There are many things I don't respect about the Browns and their choices. But so far it seems like they've raised some very well-mannered, ambitious and independent kids. Credit where credit is due, that doesn't happen by accident and I applaud them for whatever they did right on behalf of the kids.

      Delete
    3. Anon at 2:24 - this is all these kids have known. I am glad to see the college kids finally getting some freedom from watching younger siblings. Occasionally helping out with little ones is quite different than being assigned to watch your siblings full time 24/7 on a vacation.

      Delete
    4. Anon 3:50pm - How do you know they were "assigned to watch their siblings full time 24/7 on vacations"? That's a serious question, not a snarky one. I don't recall seeing that on the show - what did I miss?

  28. Upon rewatching, I am 99% sure that the scene between Christine and the little girl was scripted. The little girl talks about not being able to tell people her sisters are her sisters (which is sad). But a few scenes later we find out all 9 kids are from the same mom and are not half siblings at all.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agree it absolutely was scripted. That little girl said the same thing multiple times, like she was trying to figure out her next line. I'm so over Christine playing the victim.

      Delete
    2. Totally scripted scene - Totally desperate to rely on a young child to validate their principle. It's crazy that Christine tells the little girl that she spent her childhood, hiding that she had two mothers is also unbelievable, since she' was from a prominent polygamy family and raised in a polygamous community.

Hearing that all Richard children are all from the same mother made me wonder why the 2nd woman even stays in the relationship.

      Delete
    3. Scripted for sure. The little girl was stumbling over her lines, saying wife instead of sister. Kids supposedly said "You're a polygamist, get out of here.'"
Really? Sounds like a fake line. Very good point Anon 8:27 that all her siblings are full siblings.

This girl was nervous, cameras, lines to memorize, weird conversation with adult stranger. I don't think these kids ever thought about being a "plyg" family until they were forced to as a result of this episode. It was awkward.

    5. Robyn seemed to be distracted by her necklace, which wasn't hanging right and twisting all up. I wonder if that was a closet necklace. And, while she was fiddling with it, the other wife from the other PLYG family seemed to be explaining something very important. Also, when the browns were on the couch and Christine was talking about the other family's kids and how she cannot wait to see how they grow up and Kody was looking at her but quickly glance away with what seemed like a glare first. I think Christine's over zealous talk and attitude is over compensation for her depression. I really think she is trying really hard to be that wife that Kody expects her to be. She seems to be working on her own attitude and doesn't snark at Kody as much and even throws him a bone or two like when she said that she was in love with him before she met him and then she saw him and was like way excited or something like that. For her to admit that even after he talked about being disgusted by her obesity could have been satire for her but I don't think so. I really believe she is working so hard to be a good wife and she gets so excited and wants to be the one pumping everyone up. I rewatched the trip to MO last night and watched Robyn's meltdown and the couch scene and everyone was right on about the other wives seeming to be a little smug at the whole explanation of why she went crazy over a blast of cold air. I don't know...they are a very strange group.

  31. This episode was to advance the Brown's political agenda. It was so scripted, but the Browns still couldn't pull it off. Overall, this episode really disturbed me.

The Browns really distinguished Mormonism in history, calling, etc. to present themselves as special and to stake the claim of the right to polygamy. They were totally dismissive of all the Richards' religious interpretations - even though in earlier episodes or in their book we heard how Kody was the Biblical scholar in his own church and the priestholder.

Even Kody's interrupting the grace to declare he knew it in Hebrew was just to undermine the Richards' religious claims. After several talking heads and conversations about Nathaniel's Biblical bases for polygamy, the 2nd wife's message for her destiny, etc., Robyn declares that the Richards should be allowed to choose the lifestyle.

I'm sure I'll be posting about what horrible visitors the Browns are, but this episode really peeled back another layer of their ugliness.

    1. The bite thing seemed strained and fake. So did the line up thing the kids did. The poor little boy crying seemed genuine and made me sad. Shame on Kody for embarrassing him like that and then piling on and on. I can't imagine how overwhelming and confusing it would be to be a small child and to suddenly have 17 strangers plus a camera crew in my house!

    2. Question - how common is it for a Christian family to have a seder dinner? I am Christian and have never heard of this - not to say we might learn about this tradition or might participate with a Jewish friend or family. From what I understand, it is a Jewish meal that begins Passover.

      Delete
    3. Kody's remarks, too, were really stupid and probably made the boy cry more. He went on about how one of his daughters would make the kid her boyfriend, because she loves redheads. Then, he went on about how everyone - regardless of age - just loves her. I guess he'll suspend his no-dating rule for a totally inappropriate prospect, as long as they're from a polygamous family.

    4. Oh, that little guy about broke my heart... especially when Christine's daughter about launched him into a triple somersault during Red Rover. The whole thing had to be hard for him, especially Kody singling him out, which I didn't think was initially bad, but then he just wouldn't shut the hell up.

Maybe he was still reeling from Poopygate 2014.

    5. Anon 10:18pm: Not all (probably not many) Christian churches practice it, but some do, in my experience it depends on the pastor/priest and his personal knowledge of and appreciation for their significance. The Jewish biblical holy days are infused with spiritual and prophetic significance. Passover corresponds to Jesus' death (1 Corinthians 5:7-8), Firstfruits to His resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:20), and the Festival of Weeks (Shavu’ot, or Pentecost) corresponds to the giving of the Spirit (Acts 2:1-4). The Feast of Trumpets points to the Lord’s return with the sound of the trumpet (see Matthew 24:31; 1 Corinthians 15:52; 1 Thessalonians 4:16; Revelation 11:15). There are also references in the New Covenant (new testament) that point to significance of the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) and Tabernacles for aspects of the final days prior to and the second coming. But regarding Passover specifically, the final meal Jesus had with his followers was the Passover meal. He said "do this in memory of me" because he was the prophecied "Lamb of God" which God had promised to Abraham centuries earlier when he stopped him from sacrificing Isaac. Passover celebrates the night all of the first sons in Egypt were taken, but the Israelites first sons were spared because all the Israelite families had scarified a lamb, ate it and spread the blood on their door frames to mark their homes. In the same way, Jesus was the "lamb of god" who was the final sacrifice to take save mankind. In the Christian faith, if you truly confess your belief in him, truly repent of your sins and decide to put your faith in him as lord and savior, then his blood marks your soul and you will start to walk a Christian walk and you will be spared on the final judgement day. For this reason, the Passover meal is very significant and some Messianic Jews and Gentile Christians celebrate it in memory of both the night in Egypt when the blood of the lamb saved the Israelite children from death and the day the blood of the Lamb of God was sacrificed and made available to save all mankind.

    6. My husband is a minister in a large Protestant denomination. He has always had a symbolic Seder Meal during the week of Easter for any in the congregation that wish to partake. It is something people look forward to each year. Therefore, I do not think there is anything wrong with the celebration itself. That said, I suspect this one was the idea of the producers so that Kody could impress by outpraying his host. I do not believe for a minute that Kody just happened to know that particular prayer in Hebrew and could roll it right out. He has enough trouble handling English.

      Delete
    7. It was so rude of Kody to upstage the host of the dinner with his "I can say it in Hebrew". According to Twitter..no he couldn't!! Hahahaha
Also...What prompted him to learn this prayer in Hebrew? He said to make it more fun. So he knew all along that the Richards family would be having a "Seder".
      So scripted. So manufactured.

    8. Kody's crew seemed to think the" first bite tradition" was odd, however, I think it might be wise for the Kodettes to adopt this tradition, seeing as the "wives" can't stand each other. 33. UM CHRISTINE...that little girl Abigail is NOT a polygamist. her PARENTS are. and chickens are NOT the same as people, she's anthropomorphizing them. Um yup chickens are animals who are in flocks/herds/whatever. What about ducks? or wolves? or eagles? or in fact MOST bird species are monogamous. they might find a different mate each year, but only one mate at a time.

Is it just me or is it obvious how Christine gets off on the scandal? It's the only thing that makes them "special" and I use that word VERY loosely.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I totally agree DJ...being a persecuted polygamist is her claim to fame! Still amazed how she took a basic flock of chicken and transformed them into polygamists.

      Delete
    2. I completely agree that Christine and Abigail's conversation was staged. I don't (however) believe it was scripted. Abigail's habit of repeating the correlation between chickens/animals/polygamists sounds like the kind of conversations the children I grew up with had.
I remember hearing 2nd grade children struggling to explain why women should be submissive to their master, or homosexuals should be stoned with the same faltering cadence but unwavering surety. I had chills listening to this exchange. Chills.
Animals are not people. Animals do not have the benefit of abstract thought. Animals often eat their young.
I think the fact that Christine found the story of the hens ABANDONING their eggs to 'follow' the rooster was in anyway charming or indicative of how a relationship should be (even if only as a funny endorsement and or similarity to polygamy) is disgusting.
I am by no means an expert on farm animals, but I'm pretty sure chickens aren't the animal you want to aspire to.
This has been a boring, frustrating season...but it has also been pretty telling.
The last two years have made me deeply worried and sympathetic for the children in these families. Almost every episode (since the wives went on their SF trip) has shown that the children are not benefitting from this lifestyle.
The needs of the kids have been secondary to Kody or the plot lines (commitment ceremony) in a way that has become absolutely disheartening and is well on it's way to disturbing.
These children are not polygamists. They made no choice to be born into these relationships and yet they suffer all the consequences.
When Christine talks about how scary and hard it was growing up in 'super secret' illegal polygamy, I can't help but wonder why she would put her children through the same pain and fear she experienced.
Don't most parents want better for their children than what they had? Aren't parents supposed to do everything in their power to avoid the suffering they experienced (instead of perpetuating the cycle)?
You know what? I'm changing my mind mid rant. I think the chicken story is PERFECT. I think the comparison of sisterwives scrambling around their 'cock of the walk' is exactly the right analogy. You can cut a chicken's head off and it will still run around. It will still function (in a minor capacity) for awhile. The Browns are a bunch of headless chickens.
It makes sense, when something is diseased the doctor will cut it out. It can't be a coincidence that the two most comparable scenarios to this family are a chicken with it's head cut off, or a tumor that needs to be removed. AND, much like it can't be a coincidence, it also can't say anything 'good' about the choices they've made or the burdens they've placed on their children.
I am no longer annoyed with the Brown's, I'm not even disgusted. I am worried. I am mad.

I mean, she really perked up and stared them down while they were explaining that many of their "friends" do it. I could have misread an innocent situation... but...

    7. Well, he has his wife of 13 years with whom he has 9 children, and his sanctioned mistress of 5 years with whom he has no children.

Which is why the chicken conversation between Christine the Terrified and the little girl was obviously scripted... the little girl said that she was too afraid of non-plygs to admit that her siblings were actually her siblings, that she had to say they were friends or something. Why would that be an issue with full siblings?

Not that I blame the little girl... all responsibility belongs to her parents for subjecting their kids to this show. I really think that they reached out go tlc to be on the show. Cha-ching! The Browns seemed too unsure of them to have already known of them or have sought them out.

Good times-- walking around knowing that your life partner wants MORE. Hello, heartbreak.

  38. Ysable commented on the dynamic of their host family by saying something similar to: If you have control of your family, something has gone terribly/completely wrong.
I'm pretty sure Meri has that charming statement painted on a wood plank in her living room, so it's obviously a theme if not 'badge' of their 'free spirited family philosophy'...but even though she's a kid, and it's probably something she's parroting from her parents, I thought it was a statement made in typical Brown family poor taste.
I try to give the kids some leeway with behavior because they have a lot of family issues to deal with, though I don't like seeing the children perpetuating their parents habits of bad mouthing or mocking other people's lifestyles.
Even as a small child I would never have thought to publicly criticize a differing family dynamic, especially that of a well meaning host.
It's a terrible habit to teach children, and incredibly rude to pass judgement while begging for acceptance.

  43. Just a comment about chickens...as someone who grew up in a family where we always had several hundred free-range chickens, they don't lay eggs just anywhere because they want to lay their eggs in their nesting boxes. Very rarely did any of our chickens lay eggs outside somewhere. We had a large building with nesting boxes all along one wall. At night the chickens automatically went into the building because that was where they felt safe. Chickens aren't completely stupid. One of us kids would go out after dark and shut the door so that foxes, raccoons, etc. could not get in to the building. In the morning dad would open the door and let them all out to have the run of the farm to look for food. Us kids would go out after the chickens had gone outside and we would gather the eggs from each of the nesting boxes, sometimes having to scare the hen out so we could get the eggs. It had absolutely nothing to do with roosters as we had no roosters. Dad would buy the hens old enough so he would know he was getting laying hens and not a mixture of hens and roosters like you get when you buy a huge batch of chicks. And most people who buy chicks will butcher the roosters and keep the laying hens. You only need roosters if you want to raise your own chicks. If all you want is eggs to eat, roosters aren't needed.

During the "Seder" meal (don't get me started on the subject of cultural misappropriation), when Kody showed off by reciting (very poorly) the Hebrew blessing, he spoke the name of YWH, which, in the Jewish religion, is not supposed to be uttered aloud. When he did that, at first I cringed, but then I had a sense of completion. It was like he had put a cherry on top of the whole situation.

Also, I know nowhere in the Bible of this Egyptian leader named "Farrell" that Kody refers to. But perhaps I have not perused the right translation.

Christine is just wired, as if she needs Ritalin, waiting to hop on any opening for a chance to talk.
Sobbin fidgets and fidgets, playing with her necklace, adjusting her clothes, making those odd mouth movements. I think the fidgeting was worse for this ep because "someone" in Kodyworld is secretly visiting CJ's Living Room and has relayed to Sobbin about her eye landscaping, so she was especially twitchy trying not to do that.

  50. Janelle's Polygamy 101 part was also very staged and silly. I'd think the must-have topics would be financial strategies (e.g., employed adults, bankruptcy, food banks, couponing), wife schedule, co-parenting, children's practice of polygamy, and the oh-so-important mission statement. Trendy polygamists could add conscious uncoupling to the agenda. The Browns could have pretended to address these issues in Polygamy 101, even superficially, to appease the viewers.

The Browns and Richards specifically should have gone into bedroom arrangements. Although Kody and Krew find it vulgar, they all wanted to know about sharing a bedroom. Kody did say that they've tried different arrangements: living together in one house (Kody, Meri & Janelle?), sharing a kitchen, and then he trailed off about the four separate homes. Of course, when pretending to be interested in the Richards, the conversation came back to the Browns, the self-appointed paragons of polygamy.

    1. Ellen: Yup, lots of things in the Bible (and other religious texts) taken out of context of the overall story of which they are part can be interpreted strangely. That's why religious texts really must be read thoroughly to understand the context. But we're a "twitter society", so it has to be a soundbite for us to have the patience, it seems.

  52. The conversation with Christine and the little girl about hiding who you were or being different was stahed. The little girl said something about her siblings and not being able to say they are her sisters or brothers, didn't just one mom have all of the kid's?

    3. Shame on Christine for being a part of setting that crap up. That little girl is too young to understand that not claiming your sisters from another mother and not claiming your sisters from the same mother are different. I wonder if she is still thinking there is something wrong with claiming her sisters. And the way Christine's face lit up with the little girl was discussing how the hens lay eggs and then chase after the rooster was so telling about the PLYG life from the side of the woman. And, of course, we've read it and heard it from those who have escaped polygamy too. I am so happy that the Brown girls are moving away from home and getting a taste of liberation. I hope none of them get trapped into the life that their mothers are into because no matter how they sell it, the women come off looking and acting like they are abused.

    4. From what this show has taught me--polygamy = lies, lies, and more lies.

How sickening that they include the children in their lies. Just disgusting parents.

  53. What an uncomfortable show to watch..how far removed from the Lehi house has this show gone? wow
It's just a bad feeling that the Brown's do not know these people other than he has an additional wife. I don't think the show should come back. They should have ended it on a good note with the ceremony last season at least it was somewhat uplifing..this was just weird

  54. They couldn't have picked a more unusual example of polygamy to show. Two wives, one with 9 kids, one with none, the strange cookie story, the total lack of charisma, the weird botched Seder, All of it was extremely weird. Even the Browns reaction be it boredom or bewilderment was strange. It was just too painful to watch.

  55. I agree with all those who said they think the biblical polygamists share a bedroom as they just would NOT stop talking about it.

    1. And they were very defensive of the it's everyone's right to do what they please sort of thing. I agree with those of you who thought that maybe the guy had been either already in a relationship with the second wife or was a lusting after her and then he had to talk his wife into it sort of thing. If the second wife works, her contributions are financial, which also may explain the bringing in another wife; if the second wife is the sitter, then what they did was brought a sitter into the family. Either way, the second wife didn't seem to have much value because she rarely talked and most of the interactions we saw were between the legal wife and the husband. If by some chance Kody and Meri decide to bring another wife into the picture and it's very possible that they will do it for ratings, the story would be so cool if he moved her into the house with Meri. Wouldn't that be very cool?
The MO PLYGs were so boring and so predictable that I doubt TLC would entertain the idea of giving them their own series unless they revealed a lot more of their personal life than we share a kitchen.

  57. I taught at a synagogue for awhile. FIRST OF ALL they do a motion with their hands three times and cover there eyes KO-DUCHE, not put your hand over the glass of juice you're drinking while they are praying. The prayer was just completely wrong. and NO way would any Jew have taught him that. Him reading it on a paper, probably. Pronunciations and all that was way off and the words...the words were just WRONG.

Why does he want to cool? When he isn't? I dont UNDERSTAND!

Meanwhile, Janelle in the black with red lips looked stunning today. Very very pretty lady.

  58. Meri looked really miserable during the couch sessions. Whenever Christine would speak, Meri would sit and glare. The editing for this episode was really weird.

  59. oh and one more thing...Why do they wish everyone to be open? To be "loud" as Christine said? Scream to the top of your lungs that you are a polygamist?
There are things such as family matters. That shouldnt be screamed out for everyone to hear. I didnt really see that family as being secrative per se, but not charging into places saying "hey look at us! " That might not be there thing. Thats ok, I think. Family matters or family business is no one elses business.
Geez these people make me dizzzzzzyyyyy

  60. I can say it in Hebrew! smirk smirk--look at me, look at me!

He is so immature. Like a 12 year old trying to be cute like a 4 year old--it doesn't work and its' incredibly irritating. How can a grown man act like that, let alone on national television? Pathetic.

  61. I didn't even watch the show - just got my updates from here and that is enough! I always DVR it and watch it later, but this time I just deleted it. Hearing about the other plyg family disgusts me. So sick of everybody doing what they want and adding the name Christian to it. Also, it is easy and very common to take the Bible out of context, as many have mentioned. It also sounds like the Browns are getting arrogant and thinking they are the chosen ones - forgetting that it was only a few years back that they were in the food stamps line. I remember when the Duggar girls, a family I love in general, smirked at the equally large Bates family's girls for the way they were dressed. It had only been a year or two since the Duggar girls were wearing prairie dresses themselves. How quickly we forget! But never fear Browns, being as fiscally irresponsible as you are and seemingly so insincere about your so-called faith, pretty sure you'll be back in Lehi one day with ample time to reflect on and remember from whence you came.

    1. Nice summary, Jasmine. Sometimes I wonder if Kody wouldn't like to ditch Meri, Janelle and Christine and just go live in the Lehi house with Sobbyn and her brood and start over perhaps with some fresh young wives who might look up to him.

  62. I am pretty much with everyone else on here.......I think the show has outlived it's usefulness.......
When it first came on I watched it to get an idea of how polygamy families lived on a daily basis....
After watching it, I've become more convinced that ever that polygamy isn't a lifestyle I would wish off
on my worst enemy.....and watching the Brown family become self-centered divas hasn't been that entertaining.....to watch them all living together pretty ambicably to now having to have individual mcmansions makes you wonder how much further their greed will take them........
I do like their kids though..........they seem to have good heads on their shoulders........so I wish them well in their futures!

  63. Although I love the polygamy shows, I have to think this is it for the Browns. This season has been awful. They clearly have nothing interesting going on worth filming, thus the fake plot lines. None of us like the MSWC story line and the fake VC stuff. The entire season has been filler stuff...this last episode was just weird. None of the wives (with the exception of Christine) even seem to want to be there anymore. I agree with the poster who said Robyn isn’t picking at her eyes as much but instead is playing with her jewelry, Janelle was scratching her back while listening to how the Christian polygamists formed their family, Robyn was dozing off, Meri looking away and detached. Next week they are going to AGAIN show us the wedding pictures, the clips of the kids, etc? They are done. I can’t envision they will get another season, but then again, I am surprised that the Duggars still have a show.

We all expect that Robyn’s announcement will be pregnancy but the only other thing I can think (since they held that fake meeting right before the RV trip) is that Robyn is announcing that the VC came through with the money. Ho Hum on both events honestly.

If the show ends, that will tie up the whole 3 year house loan storyline right up and they can move back to Lehi, finite resources and all, and fix up that house. And Meri will move into her own place. Eventually Robyn will move on as well. I see Janelle and Christine being the two wives left standing after the whole fiasco.

  64. So I agree with everyone that found the Richards family to be creepy. I am definitely not buying that the Richards husband had any kind of religious testimony to live plural marriage. I think he has a need for power and control and saw an opportunity to exploit his wife's deep religious convictions in a way that would allow him to have his "cookies" and eat them too. I also found it sad that the women perceived their dreams as signs from God. In my experience, dreams are a manifestation of deep anxiety - not a psychic premonition of the future - or a visit from God expressing his will for me.

  65. Yes, that Christian plyg family was "different" to say the least, but it was definitely NO surprise to the Browns or TLC. They knew exactly what to expect !!!!

To set up an episode like this, TLC would have interviewed that family (the adults) to make sure they were not just psychos looking for some fame. As it is, I think the the Richards guy is a wannabee for what he sees in Kody's good fortune. Good Luck on that, TLC.

Production crews would also have had to go in advance onsite to Missouri to map out camera angles and lighting in the Richards home, and get permits to film in that restaurant and at that park.
The Browns would have had advance info about that family and, for sure, scripts on what TLC had planned and directed to take place while they were there.
Including the oh, so exciting Red Rover thing.
(Hey, Christine, newsflash...monogamist kids play that too..at least they did 30 years ago.)

No doubt that in the planning, someone came up with the idea for the Richards to have that Seder dinner....complete with Kody getting the script for his "impromptu" Hebrew prayer.
Which, in case we haven't seen enough, was another Kody "is a total ass" moment.

All scripted, all phony......all the usual SW BullSh*t !!!!
    WHAT a *dismal* season !!!

But the poor little red haired kid got clothes lined by Gwynnie and his sister! Poor little fella.

Amused do you remember the man and wife who went on the Anderson Cooper show and met the woman they had "picked up" in an online polygamy chat room? I called them Sorry Charlie and Mama Hen. Anyway, those two people were a thousand times worse than the Richard family. Trust me....even Anderson Cooper had his doubts why Sorry Charlie suddenly wanted to add another "wife". I think the Richard Family is a little too late to catch the polygamy train...Unless he marries wife #3 sight unseen from Russia who's a translator...

  67. CJ, I do remember "Sorry Charlie and Mama Hen."
Yep. another wacko couple who was skeevy. Apparently, the world is full of them.

"I think the Richard Family is a little too late to catch the polygamy train...Unless he marries wife #3 sight unseen from Russia who's a translator..."

And even if he would add another wife, it's a "been there, done that" scenario.
TV Plyg families are yesterday's news.
