UPDATED!!! Off Topic Monday Plus Selected Live Tweets from July 6, 2014

General Kody saluting his 2nd in command, Colonel Robyn
I don't know about you, but I was soooooo glad to see the Browns in true form Sunday. And who didn't laugh their you know what off when Kody took the cap off the RV sewer line!

Here's a sampling of some of the best tweets they are famous for tweeting to their fans during the show.

Enjoy!

Robyn, Robyn, Robyn. We don't believe you anymore. It's a storyline from the Big Love storybook. The investor's were hired from Las Vegas Central Casting. And you are no Margene Hefferon. Get over it, puleeeeezzzeeee?????

Sorry Robyn. I fail to see the humor...

What I thought was funny about this tweet was how Kody automatically blamed Hunter (one of the older boys) for not closing the black water valve when that sewage spilled out.

Robyn please tell me you didn't text your Dad about this. Surely you haven't lived under a rock all of your life!

So Robyn, tell me. What do you think about snow? Oh, and it's surviving with an U not an E. That is all.
I fail to see how $72 worth of steak (for one diner, mind you) is gross. That steak could feed 10 hungry people who definitely wouldn't think it was gross.

Guess Robyn and her sister wives were able to de-gross those steak leftovers for a couple of meals after all.

As usual, Meri tweeted how hard she was working for MSWC. You know, I think I've figured out their shipping system. They save all the orders and ship them off one day a month. So for those of you still waiting for your package...

Thank you Meri. We were all wondering why you had a motel room this time....oh, you were talking about being one of the drivers. My bad!

Then we have General Kody's tweets. Maybe if Kody didn't go around telling his bio sons he was a general, those sons would have great attitudes, too....

Not only did General Kody allow the glory jobs for himself, (basically strutting around like a real General)  we saw him blame his sons for the Brown crap spill. Nice daddy dearest.

And then Janelle, always the Brown family apologist, gave us keen insights why her teen boys were so...pleasant.

Yeah, Janelle. I can see just how successful those de-escalate lessons have been...NOT

On the other hand, we can all use some tweets featuring Sol and Truely.
Last but certainly not least, we have Christine's tweets.

Nope, I'm not going to mention how many times this year they've gone to Disneyland. Nope...
But at least earlier this year they traveled someplace different...

Ah....and the mystery of  the strange woman who cleans Robyn's toilets while holding Sol has been solved....

A mutual friend with the initials T.L.C. no doubt....
Somehow Robyn strikes me as definitely being a carnivore...

UPDATE 7/8/14 !!!!  UPDATE UPDATE

Oh my goodness...look who's going down the Kody Brown family path of least financial resistance?!!?

Yep, Brady Williams of 'My Five Wives' has filed for...hold onto your chapeaus, BANKRUPTCY!!!

TMZ is reporting the story...well, Brady DID say food costs alone was $4K a month...so what happened to their TLC money? Guess even being on TLCs payroll isn't enough for this polygamist to make ends meet.

Makes you wonder how the Browns have survived...oh wait, I forgot. Maybe that will be a storyline next season. I can see it all now, without the VC money, Robyn and Kody have to close their beloved MSWC and file for bankruptcy. But good news...Robyn is _______. You can fill in the blank.

Anyway, read TMZ's report here:

'My Five Wives' Dad -- I Got 30 Mouths to Feed and $3.61 in My Savings ... HELLO Bankruptcy

Many thanks to My Living Room commenters HockeyMom and several anons for reporting this today!

  1. I just have to be honest. Out of all the seasons this was my favorite episode. It was so funny. I loved when that kid told Kody that they started killing off their sergeants when they didn't like the orders they were given. The younger kids are hardly ever featured so I had not noticed how they had all grown. No wonder they don't care anything about going to visit another plyg family.

  2. Kody's poop shower made it worth watching for me!

  3. Hunter probably did secure the hose. I bet one of the camera crew loosened it just to get back at Kody for all the sh@t he gives his kida.

    1. Really brings a new meaning to "put sh@t in, get sh@t out!" Hah! That was a fantastic moment.

    2. Read on different site that those valves often become loose in transit and should be checked prior to doing anything with them when you stop at the campsite. So, Hunter probably did secure them, they just worked their way open. Maybe if Kody didn't spend his entire day at the gym or eating 72 ounce steaks, he would have time to check such things before connecting the hoses.

    1. What since when? I wear jeans and sandals all the time. Everyone I know does. Absolutely not "out"

    2. I think she means chunky black sandals and boot cut jeans.

    3. Polygamy is "soo OUT" too, lol. I do not know what era these women are from. And, they have amazing abilities for time travel for their beliefs as well as their clothes change blindingly fast.

    4. Kody's flip flops and jeans are out too. That is the biggest turn off besides the pony tail, Flat sandals in the snow are like skis. What the heck were they thinking? Skiing down to the motel? Why didn't they drive the van over there?

    5. Living in San Diego county, flip flops are literally the only footwear I own. But I am definitely a barefoot kinda girl, myself ;)

    6. ...but you probably don't have hairy toes! Kody's feet disgust me. When I think about it, all of Kody disgusts me! I just picture unruly hair on his feet just like his head.

    Great line !! Ha !!
And what a prized reward that would be for her driving ?/!! Not !!

Four years of watching Kody make love to the camera is wearing thin, especially during his coveted monologues. His delivery has reached cartoon stage now.
Between the darting, rodent eyes, the caveman brow, the relentless hair swings and the over the top dramatic enunciation, he just needs to put on a bear hide, toss a club over his shoulder and head for a time machine.
    He is... so...damn...annoying !!

    4. I thought Christine looked like she might have lost some weight in the Disneyland picture. Hey do you suppose Disneyland gave their family free promotional day passes if they would tweet about Disneyland since they are "celebs"? Just a thought. Isn't Disneyland driving distance from Las Vegas? They could go early in the morning and come back late that night or maybe Disney comps them hotel rooms? Either that or a lot is going on their credit cards for the inevitable next bankruptcy. They can't cry poor constantly and then go to places our kids maybe get to go to once in a lifetime.

  7. The milkshake question has got to be the stupidest ever from Robyn and that's really saying something.
Duh! Milkshake with the meal! Since the dawn of time bozo...! The sweet of the shake balances out the salt in the burgers and fries. Ok now I'm craving that...

  8. I winder what the rest of the family was doing while Janelle and Kody stopped the caravan to go to a gym. Paper plate sledding along the highway???
Who hits a gym while traveling cross-country with *13* kids stuffed inside 2 RVs having to wait until you're done. !!?
And who "works out" for a warm-up before gorging themselves on 72 oz of beef?
Was the workout to firm up their jaws? Stomach lining??

Who has a 30 second "business" meeting !
Well, that one is easy.... people doing cya BS to cover for the phony VC plot do something like that !!
(and also people who need documented "business" meetings to justify all the house/property write-offs for their "home" business)

    TLC.....Do tell !!!
Has SW hit the skids this badly that it all has come down to ridiculously lame plots like these??

    1. Considering the most entertaining things this episode were Kody's sewerage mishap & Robyn's snow rant, I definitely think they've hit the skids! It's pretty bad when the most interesting thing is seeing how many ponytail styles Kody can create with his thinning hair.

      Delete
    2. This was the episode where Kody debuted his Pebbles Flinstone look. I agree, this was honestly the most interesting part of the show to me.

      Delete
    3. At this point Kody would definitely look better if he just shaved his head like his departed brother used to do. The pony tail is ridiculous on someone with that much of a receding hairline.

I don't get Christine always being so apprehensive/worried about being around others from another faith. Remember when they discussed with having their kids hang out with teens from another faith at a youth group, and she freaked out and said she didn't want her kids swimming with "sharks"??

To her are other religions "contagious" like filthy diseases trying to infect her children? Or is she afraid that maybe other religions might make a bit more sense/seem more appealing and woe her children away from their religion (I don't recall having to wear magic underwear in the Bible!)

I am not religious at all, so maybe I just don't get it, but it sure is annoying when she acts like anything outside her own lifestyle is so terribly wrong that she doesn't even want her kids to be around them.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The Browns don't really talk about their faith in detail on the show, but it's my understanding that fundamentalist mormon sects teach their followers to shy away from relationships outside the faith - 1) to keep their polygamy a well-guarded secret and 2) to avoid outside influences that might pull you away from the fold or practicing the "principle". This is important stuff as their eternal salvation is at stake. I suspect that Christine (and Robyn too) were taught as children to fear the "gentile" world, or outsiders to their faith, and this still colors their relationships today. I have often wondered if this is why Robyn keeps voicing her fears that Meri will seek personal fulfillment outside the family. I get the impression that's just not done in the AUB, I'm certainly not an expert on the matter though, so I would be interested in learning from someone who is.

      Delete
    2. Heh. If the mares ever got loose from the AUB stables they would most likely never come back. From what I can discern, there is nothing in this religious belief system worthwhile for the women once their name is called by their doofus husband. What a terrible deal if you're female.

      Delete
    3. That's your opinion anonymous 331. But a lot of people do believe what anonymous 901 was saying who was able to name their point without having to resort to calling women mares or describing husbands as doofus. It is apparent these women belief system demands certain sacrifices but why? Are the women kept from seeking fufillment outside their families? Why?

      Delete
    4. Christine is the 'Mom' that worries me the most in this regard. She is so fearful of those of other religions (including her own Mom and Aunt), that I can see her making life miserable for her children (and her bonus children) that choose monogamy, especially those that go to a non-Mormon life)..

      Delete
    5. Diabolical PonytailJuly 9, 2014 at 2:55 AM

Thanks for the thoughts on this. That makes sense about part of it being centered on being afraid of people finding out. That would make me scared as well if I were in their shoes. And it also makes sense that someone like Christine is dealing with having been raised with fear of the "outside world" and other viewpoints, and how hard that must be to get away from. Despite this, it makes me sad that, even though they no longer have to be secretive, Christine does not seem to be trying to lower her shields much, and is in turn teaching her kids the same fearful/apprehensive behaviors towards those of other beliefs. I hope to see her try to break away from those fears and grow from it more for her children's sake.

@ mythoughtis I didn't even think of the scenario of how Christine would react to her own kids/bonus kids who choose other paths than the one she believes in. So far they've all preached open mindedness and acceptance of whatever path their children choose. But seeing how Christine is with her own aunt, I could definitely see her "shunning" the kids who go astray from their religion/lifestyle. Not overtly probably, but I can see her finding a way to not be around them. If that happens, that would be awful.

      Delete
    6. I don't know... I have a hard time reconciling Christine's "fear of people finding out" with her willingness to be on national tv, to be on twitter, to be on rb, and to be on any and every interview show that they can scam their way onto.

I honestly believe that she is, indeed, as sly and deceptive as others have stated. Her "little princess" voice and childish fears of discovery are disingenuous at best, and are insulting in that she thinks we all fall for her tired tricks.

I think the same thing about Janelle being sly and deceptive. They might change their personae slightly to try and appeal to viewers and keep their ratings up, but I think they're pathetic and obvious.

      Delete
    7. I've read a lot of the books written by women who have left. There are multiple fears instilled. Christine's fear is no longer about people finding out, it's about her own ability to accept less than she is worth as a human being.

  12. I am so over this farce. Since when do 13 scool-aged kids all have spring break at the same time? Never happened in my life. The show was interesting when we got to see a bit of "reality," like how they coped with everyday issues. Now we see them living way beyond their means and acting like they are some kind of TV stars. No one works, all the "drama" is contrived, and the kids are exploited. As for "business" meetings, and "business" trips--Does LTC really expect us to believe that? It's insulting to those of us who do work in the real business world. The only reason to ever watch the stupidity on TV is to know what ppl are talking about on the blog. The reality will be when TLC pulls out and the whole thing crashes down. Now, that would be worth watching! Next time LTC: Keep it real.

    2. All of CPS (Chicago Public Schools), Chicago City Colleges, and various private schools in the area (our montessori preschool included) have the same spring break. I don't think its very unusual.

    3. California schools have rotating spring breaks. I think they did that after those parties turned into riots in Palm Springs during Spring Break in the 80's. We used to call it Easter Vacation. Boy those were fun times!!!! The parties that is....not the riots.

  13. I'm completely confused about the way they keep referring to this family they are going to meet as "biblical polygamists". Haven't they claimed from day 1 that their lifestyle or faith or whatever they decide to call it is biblical? I noticed that JYD was on their FB page claiming that Robyn didn't "cuss". I think JYD has a girl crush on Sobbyn.

Robyn uses the term "business partner" instead of friend a lot it seems. This particular friend is on the quest to besting Mama Duggar's 19 kids, so I doubt there's much $$$ left to capitalize ventures with, so to speak.

A friend of the Browns. On SWB she was known "affectionately" as Robyn's Rottweiler.

  18. I think a lot of truth of the family came out in this episode. I think they are so used to the camera they have relaxed a lot and aren't quite as guarded. Swearing, Christine's we don't like to pay for anything, Kody's garage interview saying his wives don't like to travel together, etc. I honestly think this was one of the most telling and real episodes we have ever seen.

I love how Sobbin tried to twist her mouth on the couch session, trying to recreate what she really said into something else.

What was Hunter wearing all the time? A man purse? I'm also wondering why Maddie had to go on the trip when the others didn't. Isn't she the same as as a few of them that didn't go? I was shocked to see her at Truly's party. I had to rewind it to make sure it was her as they hadn't shown her at all until she was at the table.

Maddie was still a senior in high school. Mykelti goes to a community college high school program which explains why she and the other Brown kids in college did not go on the trip.

If I remember correctly, Maddie did have a prior commitment so she had to meet up with the Kody Klan in New Mexico I believe. She tweeted a picture of a small airport lobby shortly after the rest of the fam left from the cul de sac.

  19. So Brady and his brainwashed Bunch are joining the ranks of the PLYG scammers and freeloaders !!!
Yes indeed...must be time for Brady and his horde to do their part and bleed that beast of taxpayers and paying consumers.
Just goes to show you that lies, scams, phony stories and *Bankruptcy" pays well !!

According to their show, 3 of his five wives work..so what happened? Are we going to hear that familiar story that they all were fired for coming out? One of them works for Brady, so it can't be her.
And is the bankruptcy a personal filing, or is it on his construction company...or both !!??

Looks pretty obvious that they too will be heading for greener,TLC sponsored pastures to avoid debts and bias....and dare I say....work??
Except in his case, the story was that the prejudice coming at them was from within his own plyg ranks.
And I'll bet the timing on this was well organized to coincide with their pre-season 2 media hype.
Soon they will be making the talk show circuit crying the blues and pumping the show.

And are they still going to get a few more pregnant too. Of course, they will !!!

I can't imagine! Man, these people really fooled me. I thought they really had it together financially, at least much better than the Browns, but wow. I guess that construction biz isn't as successful as it seems and the wives' jobs don't pay that well. Makes me wonder what the heck happened to their money from the show. 2. I questioned that amount also, but TMZ article said there was no mention of the other wives, so it must all be Brady and Paulie. That begs the question though - what CC companies would allow anyone to carry that much debt? There are a lot of holes in the TMZ story.

I understand folks who may get down on their luck at some point, but being down and out as a way of life and then actively trying to have more children? I guess I'm thinking more of the Browns and how they used to be. I guess they are better off now that they have the show. At this point, the Bradys should not be talking about trying to have more kids that they cannot afford to care for adequately.

Yet another reason that polygamy might not actually be all that rewarding. 30 mouths is a lot to feed, clothe, provide transportation and medical care for.

  23. Actually they should sue the group they belonged to. They left a polygamous group that likely took all their earnings for years and gave them their necessities based on faithfulness. Then they left the group. It should not be allowed. Four adults can't go to college at the same time. Six adults should be able to feed a group of 30 or less.

I think finding that sort of data would be like finding which bankruptsy claims came from people who believe in ghosts, or have imaginary friends. The Brown's themselves have admitted that it is common to lie and hide their polygamy when filing paperwork.

But as demonstrated by what happened to Joe and Teresa Giudice, it was not very smart being on a reality show and then suddenly filing for bankruptcy. Which they quickly dropped when it became apparent they had lied. They were found guilty and will soon be sentenced for bankruptcy fraud!

Lord help us if this bankruptcy will be the storyline for season 2 of My Five Wives.

He sure did! He told Rhonda (wife #5) to quit her job. I thought maybe he wanted her for babysitting duties for Nonie (if and when she gets preggers). Now I'm wondering if he was thinking about the bankruptcy. Is there a limit on income level when filing bankruptcy?

      Anyone knows?

    2. There is a means test to determine how much expendable income a family has after paying their monthly bills. When I filed, i was a single mom of two working for $11 an hour so I had bo expendable income. This bankruptcy is interesting; is Brady claiming all the children as dependants? That's the only was a $4,000 monthly food bill would fly. Anyway, bankruptcy laws have changed a lot in the last 8 years, and some property (cars, real estate, jewelry, stocks, savings accounts, etc) can be taken to pay back creditors. This makes me wonder about the TLC money. If it hasn't all been spent, I wonder is it was given to the othet wives to protect it during the bankruptcy.

    3. He is financially responsible for all the children. Being married currently or ever to their mother has nothing to do with it.

People file. Not only did they leave the security of their community in belief being isolated around members who remained they were likely shunned and had no way to build an income. Probably why so many were in school. Philosophy degree makes nothing. One wants to teach, that is fine. One is working in a medical office. One helped with the business. Then he did the business. Three adults working with kids old enough for college and 30 people won't get the bills paid.

    4. The Williams have always lived in that AUB community, at least that's what I thought. It's called Rocky Ridge I think. Do you mean when they left the AUB they became isolated when shunned by their AUB neighbors?

    5. Technically he would be legally responsible for all of his children but if his name's not on the birth certificates it seems like he woukd have to go through some sort of legal action to establish paternity before he could claim them as dependants for the purposes of filing for bankruptcy. Maybe his name is on thr birth certificates, i don't know. I do know that on sisterwives, it has been mentioned that many father's are not listed out of fear. This also allows the mothers in plural families to qualify for benefits without implicating their husbands. I don't know if the Williams did this and I don't really care. I don't think it's my place to judge who "should" or "shouldn't" receive assistance.
However, what is striking about the William's bank--to me anyway--is the enormous amount of credit card debt and the timing of the filing. It gives the impression that they were living it up on credit and now want an out before they have to hand over the big TLC bucks to pay back the debt.

    6. Someone asked on their Facebook page if Brady's name is on all the children's birth certificates, and they replied "yes".

    7. "Three adults working with kids won't ..."

True, and that's one of the reasons people do not choose this lifestyle. People can't afford it, including those who practice it. Children don't ask to be born, at least not in my Bible, so my heart goes out to those who come from families who struggle and I'm glad there are programs that help, but these parents who keep having these kids and expect other people to pay for it .... especially polygamists and baby daddies with all of these dang kids ... well that is just irresponsible and stupid. To me, financially speaking, Brady and Kody are no different from the baby daddy in the street who can't support his kids. I said financially speaking, so keep that in mind. I do think they both love their children and maybe they like some of their wives ... Lol.

    8. In all fairness to the Williams family, I would imagine that the construction business was hit very hard by the housing bubble collapse. It seems as if they are trying to improve their financial situation by going to school. They do not own the homes, the AUB does. I would imagine that they have been using the credit cards to keep the business a float and to try to survive with everyday living expenses. Maybe that is why they did the show, to try to save themselves and it was too little too late. This seems like a set of bad circumstances and decisions. I like them and I don't think that they are the level of circus that the brown family is. The browns show no desire to improve themselves and want "free stuff". By their own admission, they are frauds.

    9. But one child is married and living out of state, so he can't count her as a dependent. Isn't a son like 19 or 20? I thought he was working at the family business (when not visiting his uncle in Africa).

    10. " Is there a limit on income level when filing bankruptcy?"

CJ, there is no income limit for bankruptcy. To file your debts have to far outweigh your assets and prospect of repayment. The income (his and maybe Paulie's, but not the other 4 'wives') that he'd be listing wouldn't come close to covering his debts. Nice of TMZ to not tell us what his TLC income is listed as. NOT

Filing now may be a good idea for him especially if he's been charging all of their bills to his credit cards. He'll get to write off his/their? debts and start from scratch while they all get to continue to keep their TLC income + any other salaries.

So, Nonie, stop your plans to have another baby. And Rhonda, please stop calling adoption agencies.

I feel bad for the kids, who wants this type of stuff out there for all their friends to see?

I wonder if TLC is still planning on Season 2?

    1. Oh I'm guessing that the first season TLC checks were pretty small, based on what has been stated in interviews with the Browns, Mama June, and Jon Gosselin. TLC bumps up the $ if the show is a success/renewed. They're clearing their debts so they don't have to waste their TV money on paying them.

      Delete
    2. I bet that's the case. Otherwise they could be sued and have their wages garnished. I want to be more sympathetic because bankruptcy sucks, but i cant wrap my head around almost $200,000 in credit card debt.

I know everyone is talking about the Bradys money issues right now, but I wanted to state before I forget again, that whoever said she being passive toward the other ladies when she was saying how gross the steak was, right on! I watched the episode again and just felt like she always talks about how she's naturally thin, and doesn't eat much, blah blah, and I think it is just another way to get attention. That steak was not gross to her, she was dramatizing again. Just watching her anymore, she's just so annoying. Is she getting worse about everything or is it just me? She needs to stop trying to fix Kody and his other wives private issues too. She always tries to get Kody to see the other persons side, and although she wants us to believe she is a peace maker, most of us see right through her.

    5. I doubt TLC renews the show. It was boring.

    6. CPA Carol, according to TMZ, the bankruptcy filing only listed Brady and Paulie, none of the other wives were mentioned. I'm sure with over $400k in total debts the other wives racked up a good share of it. I think when Kody and Meri filed for bankruptcy they had something like $85,000 in debt. Not sure about Janelle or Christine's. Nowhere near $400k though.

I don't know if this makes me the minority, but it bothers me that Brady, a construction family business owner, is wasting time getting a Philosophy degree. I mean, I'm all for furthering your education and fulfilling those dreams, but if it doesn't take the money away from food, clothing and housing for your family of 30. I don't get why, if he chooses to go to school at this point in his life, he doesn't do Business Management or something related to what he does for a living? I don't see how Philosophy would be worthwhile for him (no offense to Philosophy majors, it just doesn't appear to suit Brady Williams).

Also, their show was sooooo boring. I don't think I was able to stay awake throughout a single episode. I was surprised to hear that they were getting a second season. I don't know if I'll be watching. The wives just seem waaaaay too depressed to function and don't have the personalities for a successful reality TV show. JMO, I don't find anything interesting about them other than the circumstances in which they left their church and still decided to remain together as a family.

(Side note: I don't want to start an off topic debate - I don't now if he really said that, but it's been attributed to him - and if I've heard about that quote, I'm sure Brady has heard it too! 8. Brady seems to be an escapist type. One of the bothersome things about his monologues is that his eyes always seem detached from his words.
He gives off a "I'm here but not here" vibe.

Seeking a degree in philosophy which is totally unrelated to any practical application in his real life and for his "chosen" responsibilities apparently makes sense to him.
It is his "Calgon. take me away."

He is perhaps even more self-absorbed than Kody.....if that is even possible.

  30. I get being married pleases God to them. I get big families pleases God. However they doing at the expense of 2/3rds of men who can't marry and have kids because they are committing gluttony. Further a single man can get a single woman pregnant more often. Trying every fifth night with an ovulation cycle of a couple of days doesn't add up to that many pregnancies. The schedule even with others sacrificing their night for a sisters wife's better time does not work.

One man isn't responsible for feeding and caring for all the family. Each adult could financially support themselves and 2-3 children. It's what most of America does. Only most of America doesn't live common pot and have nothing to show for giving all and taking from a religious group left to fend for themselves when they break free of them.

  31. Gee, maybe kody and Brady could get money management tips from Jim Bob duggar? He feeds 21 mouths and that family is debt free--huge custom home, SUVs, giant bus, etc.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The Duggars are reportedly worth more than $3 million from their real estate investments, cell phone towers, the show, books, speaking engagements, etc. They went debt free years ago but weren't that well off before their TV special aired when they only had 13-14 kids. They were living in that tiny 3 bedroom house owned by a church and it took them 6 years and lots of free labor and supplies to build their current home. Jim Bob Duggar is a known tightwad however, even now that they have some money. Still beats the bankrupt Brown's and now Williams. I wonder if they will adopt the "buy used and save the difference" Duggar motto. LOL yeah right!

      Delete
    2. I don't agree with them on everything, but I respect the Duggars a lot. They have not changed significantly over their time on TV. They dress differently, but I think that's as much the result of their daughters growing up and starting to influence those choices more. But beyond that, their values and lifestyle and who they seem to be as people and the strength of their family bond has not seemed to be damaged by the show and fame. I think that's great. And I really respect their choices throughout their marriage to live debt free and to choose work that enables them to spend as much time as possible with their children. They were living in that little three-bedroom house you mentioned during the first special and it took years to build the new house because they won't go into debt to do it - they bought and built as they could make purchases. So much respect for that versus all the people I know who look rich and like they are "living large" - but really, they are in debt up to their eyeballs and it's all an empty illusion waiting to crash.

    3. TLC did help them complete and furnish their home, and it is believed by some that they doy pay taxes on their property because it also doubles as their church. I don't know how much truth there is to that. But the family does get a lot of freebies. Their daughter Jill just had a huge wedding with over 1000 guests. It didn't look cheap either. My point is basically that they rely a great deal on donations and volunteers to love the way they do. I think they always have.

      Delete
    4. TLC helping them complete their home is not a freebie, that is a business relationship and exchange. I would consider that part of their payment for agreeing to appear on the show and take all of the good (and bad) that comes with such a decision. Likewise, I would encourage everyone to take advantage of any tax benefit that is legally available to them; again, not a freebie but smart financial and tax planning. And donations and volunteers are a sense of community and something we've seen the Duggars be on both ends of - both accept with gratitude and giving with a cheerful spirit. So none of that bothers me.

I also don't have a problem with people accepting support from me as taxpayer (e.g., the government) for short-term needs and/or when they truly have no other alternative - happy to have that sense of community support. But I do have a problem with people living off of taxpayers expense as a longterm life-style and/or just because of their own bad decisions or lack of personal drive - that bothers me. The Duggars? They don't bother me at all.

      Delete
    5. Kiki, their property tax information is on record. The Duggars house is zoned on farm property and the taxes are reduced based on the rural land, not a reported church use. TLC helped them 'finish' their house but before that they put in years of sweat equity and their own money. They'd have finished the home on their own but the show did help to be completed sooner!

Jim Bob and Michelle own quite a lot of commercial property and a number of businesses and would be quite comfortable without TLC's money but I agree their lifestyle has become more comfortable since the show started. They haven't actually ever relied on many donations or volunteers. I commend them for shouldering their burden themselves and for not relying on their community or society for help. They accepted hand-me-down clothing for the kids, and still do, but that is pretty much it.

As for Jill's wedding... yes, it was most likely more "lavish" than they'd have had if they'd never done the show, but a lot of the hard work was done by friends and family plus her new hubby's family, too and don't forget Jill's own income, too.

      Delete
    6. I don't know, either way, I'm skeptical about how true they really are to their image. I remember being disgusted with Jim Bob during an episode where he and Michelle go to a hotel for an anniversary. He tried to negotiate for a lower price for the room with the hotel clerk when it was a cheap $50 motel room. If you have 19 children to feed, you should be thanking your lucky stars you get a night away to celebrate your anniversary. The thing that bothers me the most about them is how little child rearing it seems Jim Bob & Michelle do compared to their older daughters. Something about their family dynamic is seems "off" to me. The older children seem so depressed and worn out.

      Delete
    7. Wow, we see very different things when watching the show. I see parents who are very engaged and successfully raising a house filled with happy, productive, grounded and responsible children and young adults.

      Delete
    8. I think for the most part they are good parents, their children do seem to have a lot of skills but are socially pretty awkward. I'm unsure of how happy those kids actually are or how much engagement Michelle or Jim Bob really have with all of those kids on a daily basis. From the looks of it, the older daughters handle much of the cooking, cleaning, and homeschooling. I know someone who met them once, they said Jim Bob was pretty creepy and Michelle seemed very fake. It makes me wonder how much is an act for the show.

      Delete
    9. If it's fake, they are amazing actors - all 27 of them! (with Anna, kids, Derick, and Grandma) When I reflect on other long running reality shows like JK+8, K+8, LPBW and see how much those people changed as time passed and being on the show affected them and/or they started to let their guard down, I think the Duggars and the couple from The Little Couple stand out as very real and consistently true to how they have presented themselves. I think Jim Bob is a little goofy and awkward - but not creepy. I see the older kids as wholesome and traditional. And I think it's great that they take responsibility for many tasks in the home - they live there and should be doing their part to "earn their keep" and contribute to the family unit. That might stand out as strange compared to most young people today - but honestly, I'd rather have that then they way I see most young people behave today.

      Delete
    10. Yeah, I actually quite like the Duggars. Different strokes for different folks. Honestly, it'd be hard not to change somewhat under the glare of TV lights and millions of dollars. I'm quite impressed with how the Duggars have handled it over so many years. To me, that speaks to their faith. Even if you don't agree with their beliefs, you have to admit they haven't gone back and forth when under pressure from those who disagree. I say good for them. If I had to choose, I'd love having them as neighbors. Yeah there are things I don't agree with and I do find Josh and Anna annoying, but overall I like the family.

However, it was assumed that the Browns would never get approved for the McMansions given their history...but somehow... magically ....they were approved !!!

Given how much mileage TLC got from the "will they or won't they" BS with the Browns, it is likely they will use that very same formula with the Williams regarding a move and house acquisitions no matter how dodgy their history looks now.

    3. We just built a house and had to deal with this times 7. They did it because they couldn't afford the upgrade to have it done right - there is special wiring/tubing that goes in during the initial electrical stages that have to be done before sheetrock. They then have to run all the wires to where your Tivo box (or whatever you use for dish/cable) is. We split the house in half so 4 go to 1 area, 2 go to another area. One directv box is hidden in a closet and another is hidden upstairs in the bonus room closet. It's just one more upgrade they cheaped out on with those houses.

I'm kind of perplexed why the VC would promise $$$ and then not give it to them. I have never had any associations for VCs, however, I would venture a guess that they asked the Browns for additional information, maybe more detailed financials, busines plan, etc. before they gave them the capital. We only saw what we were shown on the show. the Browns have probably blown off their commitment and will now blame the VC or discrimination about polygamy for not getting the money. I somehow think we are missing a big chunk of information.

  43. In regards to Brady's bankruptcy, I have to think some of that 400k is attributed to the business maybe? If TLC really wants to get people to watch they would do one whole episode dedicated to how these people exist financially. The Brown family, the Williams family, whomever, I just want one hour of how they budget, who gets what, who is on whose health insurance...i really think people want to know and would find it fascinating. Cell phone plans for example, how does that work? Other reality shows have dealt with finances more openly, the Duggars for example. "How do you pay your bills" is a basic reality everyone deals with, yet it is the one reality, these tv shows won't touch. Right now, the money issue with these polygamy shows it is like a giant turd in the middle of the room stinking up the place that no one wants to clean up.

I know others have commented on the fact that Kody said his wives do not like to travel together; we know they don't like to share a kitchen; we also know they don't really like sharing a house; so what we know for sure is that they cannot get a long together in a car, a kitchen, and a house but they don't mind sharing a husband. Maybe the reason they cannot stand to be together is because of the sharing the husband thing. My husband and I take vacations together all the time and we love it and we bring our grandchildren with us and while we are often a little stressed due to having small children around 24/7 or until the vacation ends, we do enjoy travelling and letting the children see things and experience things. The wives, the children, and even Kody dreads the vacation time together. All of this points to one thing; individually, the families function fine but add all of the families together and they are one dysfunctional mess....for real.

  45. i'm gonna give the browns the benefit of the doubt on calling david jr 'dayton'. he grew up in a home with his father david, giving him a nickname makes sense. as does the fact that he chooses not to go by it outside the family. my mother has been known by a shortened version of her name all of her adult life and it was only a few years ago that she finally made it clear that she does not in fact like it. my husband, who met her around that time is one of the few people who calls her by her full name, though my dad has now trained himself to do so as well.
interestingly, nobody seems to have latched on to the fact that this is only the second ever mention of garrison's real first name 'robert'. 'garrison' is his middle name and and he uses 'robert' as part of his twitter handle. the only other time it came up was in the online exclusive intro to the family section, when kody says, 'sometimes, we have to call him "bob"'.
i am not a fan of the browns and robyn just bothers me, but i don't think this is such a big deal, unless she started calling him 'dayton' only after she started courting kody. if that's the case, it's just sick, if not, it's just a way to tell multiple davids apart.

    1. I agree one hundred percent. My son is a fourth and goes by a nickname, as does his father, grandfather, and great grandfather. My brother goes by a nickname, ad does my mother, and my father goes by his middle name. It's not uncommon. "Dayton" sounds like an amalgamation between David and Preston to me. And he may be at an age where he is sick of having a nickname. My brother did that for a few years (Jimmy suddenly wants to be called James) when he was a teenager. And even is it happened after the show, maybe it was to try to keep the father's name private.

    2. I'm the one who brought this subject up above. I know plenty of people who use a nickname or middle name when family members share a first name - no big deal. However, I was under the impression he wasn't called Dayton until Robyn and Kody became an item. As in, Kody refused to call him David because it was also the name of Robyn's ex (which we all know is something that Kody would do!!).

    3. I think that is just theory held over from SWB. As far as I know, this has never been confirmed by anyone, nor has it ever been mentioned on the show or in the book. I think it caught wind when Dayton was uncovered to be a junior. That combined with Kody's "ick factor" starements about dating a women with kids led to speculation.

    4. I don't understand the hype around his name. Dayton seems like a logical nickname to me (DAvid PresTON = Day-ton) and many people are called by both their given name and a nickname somewhat interchangeably among family.

  47. Could Kody's multiple streams of income be credit cards? Who would give the Browns credit cards? But if someone did, I am sure they are taking full advantage of them. Disneyland for all!

And how many credit cards does the Williams family have to accumulate that much debt? Must be dozens.

    1. It's up to each issuing bank as to who they give credit cards to and on what terms (interest rate, credit limit, etc). Also, I'm guessing a lot of their credit is passing through Brown Family Entertainment - they just open up accounts/cards under the business name and voila! Plus, they probably paid down some of their outstanding debt (apparently, not Robyn's debt) and paid off cards so they got their limits increased. More than likely they're living on a slew of cards, from different issuers and making the minimum payments. They don't have any equity in the houses, so they can't tap that "resource".

Most of the debt was from his business credit cards that he was personally liable for repaying if his business does not pay. It doesn't take dozens of cards to rack up business debts.

    1. Wait a minute. You see Kody and Robyn at Disneyland and you only looked at Kody's hair? What about Robyn? Was there a baby bump?
