Of course, it's not really clear who the refugees are, and why they have found refuge in South Salt Lake, but at least the young lady is trying to do something to help people in need. Speculation in my other living room is that this could possibly be a sociology project.At the other end of the donating money spectrum, comes this totally self-serving announcement from The Joker, now better known as The Catfisher.
The PayPal page is scary to say the least...
Like, it's an e-book, right? So why the need to include your address? Okay, it IS the Christmas season, so I'll give the Semi-Great Imposter the benefit of the doubt that this is the default order form for non PayPal members. But frankly, with what we know of the Joker's background, that's wayyyy too much information to be giving out and way way wayyyyyy too much money to be asking for bad fiction.

Jasmine, I am with you on not caring for the fireplace! I appreciate what KMS is saying in her post below that it is simple and maybe some prefer that. However, I see everything in these "McMansions" as having the cheapest finishes possible. There is no way you would see a fireplace like that in a newer, nicer home. I don't know what is worse - the lack of a mantle or the lack of a hearth. It just screams low end finishing touches. All their window sills are even worse - just drywall and no casing or moulding. To me, the way their are all finished make them look more like apartments I have lived in than homes!

DeleteI agree, I don't think the fireplace tile is centered. If you look at the toe of the stocking that is marked "Dad" and the one for "Caleb" it is pretty obvious that it isn't the same size. Geez...for something in the tune of $450,000 you would think that wouldn't happen. Maybe that is why Meri hovered endlessly over the workers at her house when it was being built.
DeleteThese houses were built with apartment grade furnishings. Carpet and tile, no wood floors. No custom architecture like crown molding or even casings. These are lower grade than the apartments in Vegas.

One thing I also learned, while building my own home, is that a lot of builders consider a banister on the stairwell as an "upgrade". When we inquired what in the world would they put on stairs if you don't upgrade to a banister?...... The answer???? A cement wall.....that's exactly what all the Browns have in their homes. It's all extremely basic and cheap.
DeleteUnfortunately, that is how a majority of the homes in LV that were built in the last 20 years are. The only thing I would say isn't cheap but more so the style/culture in the southwest is the lack of casting or moulding around windows. Moulding is more traditional looking and southwest architecture tends to be more contemporary in my opinion. I actually think it looks nice when the corners are rounded, which theirs are not... Cheap cheap cheap.

DeleteThere really are no mantles for south western fireplaces. Most new homes in the Midwest lack t he molding around the window. There may be a ledge at the bottom but no frame. With the heat I wonder how wood up against drywall or whatever they make the walls out of would hold up with contracting and expanding? Today it's modern touches. And that is clean lines and less is more. They only paid about $100 per square foot. The reason they cost so much is each home is over 4,000 square feet. If they paid $200 per square foot I would expect to see wood floors and beams and such. The tv is more to do with the bracket on the wall. I think it's an optical illusion. It is fairly centered, the camera is slightly to the side and there is that shadow. The builder didn't fix the tv to the wall.
Of course, the builder does not affix the TV to the wall. Not unless the home is a custom build and that request was made which is very likely in their case.

I too would love to know what role JYD played in the mid to later stages of Meri's infatuation with an illusion. "Someone" knew besides Meri and the catfisher. Imagine what price THAT book would command?
And how and why did JYD ( BFFof Sobbin, not Meri) befriend the catfisher??

ReplyDeleteWhat I find interesting is Meri has an ornament naming only Kody, her and Mariah and that's THE Brown family as far as she sees it. Then Janelle has a "Mom" stocking and "Dad" stocking, just her and Kody and their kids as if that's all that matters. The Brown version of polygamy just seems weird to me. Definitely love divided four ways and no one seems overly happy or contented by it.

ReplyDeletePottery Barn Kid stockings. Most are adults. Maybe they had the others and just added the friends in the last few years? They could always pull out the stitching and put another name in. Add a new red backing. Doesn't really matter. They spend more than they make. It's why they take too many vacations. Can reposses a car but not a trip.

(which is when she would have needed to order them to have personalized, shipped and hung by the beginning of Dec.) they were full price. ReplyDeleteI own a vintage jewelry store online (on Etsy) and Paypal is one of my payment processors. For a buyer to use Paypal all that information is required including your debit/credit card if you don't have a Paypal account. As a seller I only receive your name and mailing address to mail your package. If I sell something that is downloadable, like a jewelry tutorial, I receive only your name and email address to send the link to download what you purchased.
As a seller using Paypal as a payment processor for a downloadable item only, your address and other personal information is kept private by Paypal. If it's a physical item, yes your mailing address is added to your order to the seller.
Never, ever under any circumstance does Paypal reveal any financial information, debit or credit card numbers, bank accounts etc. I would know you used Paypal, but I wouldn't know HOW you used Paypal. You could have used an e-check, your debit card, direct bank transfer - as a seller I would never know how you paid.
I'm only clarifying this for myself and other small business owners to not be afraid of Paypal as a payment processor if you find something online you'd like to purchase and Paypal is your only choice to pay. Also when it comes to disputes Paypal sides with the buyer 98% of the time and sellers rarely win a dispute with a buyer. So you always get your money back if your item doesn't arrive or isn't as described. Paypal also has 24/7/365 live USA phone support and you can call them at any time about any purchase.
As a seller who depends on my business to help take care of my family, I just wanted to point out some things about Paypal. Again, this has NOTHING to do with the catfisher. I'm speaking about Paypal only.
It appears PayPal was kind enough to tell that catfish that selling his book using a LLC business account was mixing tax ids and would get the IRS real interested.

ReplyDeleteJanelle, who for the longest time gave the impression of being more progressive than the other wives, has revealed herself to be exactly like the other wives. For so long she was quiet and we only heard from her when she was upset about something such as the hobby business or the talk of PMS, but lately, she has blossomed into a more articulate and expressive person, and I think it is in part to Meri's losing her legal status. She actually seems totally happy that her daughter is going to give up school to get married to a much older man; also, she really stifles her children who oppose Kody. I believe she is just as much in the land of denial as Christine...she puts the boyfriend and girlfriend of her older two kids up and while I see her wanting to include Maddie's fiancé, I don't understand including Logan's girl. Also, while the wives and Kody scream we are all one big happy family, each wife creates her family rituals without the other children so it's Kody, the wife, and the wife's kids. I have many friends who have step children and those children also have stockings hung by the chimney...even if those kids are only coming over for a few days. If we are to believe that the wives accept each bonus kid as her own, then why don't they hang stockings for all the kids equally. The CF person, geeze, he/she needs to give it a rest. Now there's a promise of new stuff in the book...new texts, pictures, voice mails and all the while it is telling the world how much it loves Meri...but it is trying to humiliate and embarrass her. I am sort of starting to believe that when things went bad between the two, there was probably some bullying and promises of ruin...

DeleteThe stockings are $22.50 each - personalization is NOT free - another $9 for a total of $31.50 each. Sometimes they go on sale (I had my eye on them earlier!) But even if she only paid $25 each are we to believe frugal Janelle spent at least $250 on 10 stockings from Pottery Barn?? I think NOT. I hate to sound so cynical but I am going with the theory a fan bought and sent them. Maybe I'm way off base on this, but there are some crazy fans out there who we know love to send them gifts.
No apologist for Janelle am I, but I think the family + significant others stockings are nice. When I was in high school, my best friend's mom put a stocking up for me because I was at their house so much, and if my kids' SOs were going to be around I would hang stockings. I also understand not hanging a stocking for every single bonus kid...that would just get ridiculous. As for the expensive stockings, well, that makes no sense to me for someone who is supposed to be so $ conscious. Maybe that's how Janelle got the trash lien on her house--she used the money earmarked for the garbage bill and went wild at Pottery Barn instead. I don't care for the look of her stockings, but to each her own taste in decor. :)

If they will be around for Xmas and Santa puts stuff in, she still has a kid in elementary, stockings make sense. Maybe when a baby is born they get a stocking? A baby doesn't need presents, but a stocking is a nice idea to match what the family has. They don't do much at Xmas. They do the three gift thing. You buy them once and reuse them. They have been on sale for at least 8 years. They may not have all been bought this year. The plain red ones from pottery barn cost a little more, unless on sale. I actually have the red ones. Best investment I ever made. I think I bought during a major sale or had a coupon? Probably $39 including the names. Half the decorating is the stockings. Red ones are large enough for small gifts so Santa can be generous without spoiling. Okay for grown ups. If they spent 400k on a house I don't think spending $ on stockings is a shock. She might have spent $20-$30 at target for stockings. This is $10-$20 more. It's nice the SO's match.

JO has been having some issues with her PayPal accounts. She is now on her 3rd one and claims that anyone who bought the book through the original PayPal acct would receive a refund.

One 'commenter' did make a post saying that the original PayPal had info on it that blew JO's cover. 'Lindsey' answered saying she had signed him up for a gay porn site now that she had his real email. And while you can usually tell when the commenters are actually JO, some of them seem like real people. The ones JO is faking have the same 'uneducated person trying to sound smart' feel to them.

I would think Meri could file a suit claiming JO damaged her reputation. Although this scandal probably helped the show more than hurt it.

One human being has never been so noble or accomplished so much. From running a Ivanla Van Zant fan site, being a father figure to "Mike", running several successful companies, jet setting to exotic locales, loving Meri Brown like nobody else, to recently considering adopting his cousin's inutero twin boys, this (man) is a rare piece of work. Guarantee Nev Schulman and MTV will get involved before this is over with.

I'd pay FAR less for the bar soap/scarf-purse-leg warmers/fugly earrings/hats/etc, and I wouldn't have to pay shipping. And she just happens to meet strangers in the bars who after talking to her, become (Sam's) staunchest supporters. I bow down to you ms. badass. Now I'm laughing so hard I can't breathe.

DeleteI read the new messenger screen shots that (s)he posted. What stands out to me with a big flag is the fact that the messages from "Meri" are from a computer NOT a phone. If you are on your phone and send from your messenger account that is linked with your facebook account your little squiggle will be blue. If you are on the computer and messaging someone through facebook, then the squiggle will be grey.

Whoever is buying it, good luck. I'd more likely bet you'll get none of this 200 page tome from this longtime scam artist. But either way, the rest of us will hear all about it from catfish woman, and not have to give her a dime.

There is a popular shop named My Sister's Closet. Coincidence?? Given Robyn's lack of originality I think she did a little "borrowing" in naming her company.

DeleteAs to who the Browns are marketing to, they don't think in focused terms. They go for the pasta pot approach to sales: throw a lot of crap at the wall and see what sticks. They don't care about the consumer in any way shape or form--they care about raking in $$$$$. The snowman earrings epitomize the ugh factor--prices as though they're sterling silver or something. No, just really ugly, nickle-plated CRAP, earrings that I could buy for $4.95 at a discount store, but wouldn't because EW!
Okay just know that the Browns make me very skeptical and that is my basis for saying this, but that sounds like a ratings ploy to me. And I kinda like the grandma. Really, I do. They probably couldn't get any of the wives to agree to go back (and we all know school would require too much discipline and a WORK for Kody, so hey let's go with the next best thing. And hey the audience will love it. On a side note, regardless of motive, it is wonderful for Annie and I hope she does well. She should drag her daughter to class with her.
DeleteI absolutely can believe Annie has the gumption to start college. She had the courage to leave an impossible (polygamous) situation and established a nice, simple independent life that seemed to work for her. Was she rich? No. Was she living in a mansion? No. But she was living independently. Rather than seeing moving in with Christine as some act of desperation on her part, I've always assume that she set aside her own life that worked for her to support - maybe save - her daughter and her grandchildren. She didn't need to move into this mess. That was a sacrifice on her part.

But it affirms for me my earlier perception that she is the only non-loser adult in that entire cul de sac. I ended up with a second master's degree because I was leaking brain cells working around co-workers who could discuss Julia Roberts' lips fore weeks. I can totally see taking class(es) as a way for Annie to stay sane around this group. You go, girl!

Totally OT, but something from my past has been nagging at me since I've started watching this show and I figured that a many of you have some knowledge about polygamy.
ReplyDeleteI think I went to high school with some plyg kids? They were part of a big family of 16 or 17 kids claiming to be either cousins or siblings, two "aunts", and a mother and father. They were Mormons and the girls had some really strict rules regarding their modesty and hair length. Also they lived in three houses close together out in the sticks.
While the state I grew up in isn't known for polygamy it is sandwiched between two states that are. The three older women of the family claimed to be sisters, but they all looked so different. Idk why this has been bugging me, maybe because it's crazy that they could have fooled an entire town? So does anyone think that my sheltered tiny hometown was invaded by plygs back in the day?

The two girls who were in my grade looked like twins, like to the point where people called them by each others names even through they were "cousins". It's so crazy how my gossipy little town was and it never crossed their minds that something as strange as polygamy could happen there.
DeleteMy mother was born and grew up in a predominately Mormon town in the southwest. When she was in high school (back in the late 1940s) there was a major scandal. Seems two girls who supposedly were "cousins" turned out to be half sisters as well. Their father had married two full sisters, just like Papa Joe Darger except they weren't identical twins.. The girls left school and never returned.

I'm just guessing....Mesa, AZ??? Learned about that town from the Jodi Arias trial. Las Vegas was very Mormon too. I never realized that until I moved there and learned about the history. I used to go out 4 wheeling by some old foundations that used to be Mormon ranches. (There were wild horses out there in 1994. I know there isn't now.)

DeleteDaisymae & fellow posters - I have been following this the last couple of days - multiple gossips sites are picking this up and reprinting the same thing. They are using Christine's own statements from the tell-all as source material; they are even quoting her from statements she has made on the show but putting a twist on it as if this is new information. Why would these sites be running with "Christine is considering leaving" at this point in time? I think it is more drama being cooked up by the Brown's or TLC. They saw what a good story it made that Meri might leave and they need ratings and drama for the next season. It is too coincidental that Christine has gone dark on twitter and at the same time these cooked up stories about her wanting to leave Kody are showing up online.

She believes that polygamy is her heaven-sent duty and I can't see her abandoning her lifelong cult conditioning. AUB only grants releases for "serious" marital infractions such as adultery or men not following their leaders. Verbal abuse and emotional abuse isn't even on the leaders' radar since it's an integral part of polygamy. I guess if Kody really came out and admitted to becoming an"independent polygamist" rather than a follower of the current AUB leader, that might be grounds for a "release" from the fake marriage, but If that happened she would still need to find another guy to "save her" in cult heaven.

DeleteI disagree. I've always felt Annie's sudden arrival in the cul-de-sac was to be a witnesss of the "cruelty" Kody has inflicted on Christine and that he's a zero as priesthood holder. Christine used to be a well-known activist for polygamy, but ever since Robyn joined the family, her voice has been stifled. Big time.
Kody has isolated Christine from the AUB, played favorites with his newest "legal" wife Robyn and her children to the point Christine's older girls are saying no to polygamy...no doubt due to Kody's horrible treatment of their mother. She has been ridiculed on the show - family tradition of celebrating Joseph Smith's birthday replace with Hannukah celebration, the anniversary trip to Galveston, where Kody proclaimed "Honor MY FAMILY and I will love you", the chili nachos incident before they got married, even Christine telling Kody he could put the wrestling mats in her garage if he promised to visit her kids more often. Oh, and don't forget Christine telling the story how Kody told her to use her GROCERY MONEY if she needed to visit her father when he was ill.
Do I think she would be granted a release? In a heartbeat, YES. Kody is an embarrassment - hello, divorcing a wife to marry his 4th under the suspicious reason to be able to adopt her kids? No, that was ridiculous. And to prove just how damaging THAT little stunt was, former legal wife Meri was ready to runaway with the first person who paid attention to her, and made her feel "loved". Unfortunately, it was a con woman, but that's how low Meri was emotionally!
And don't forget Val Darger was given a release from her marriage because her then spiritual husband was verbally and emotionally abusive to his wives, and moved his families far away from their church.
I think Christine will be the first to leave, and as soon as the TLC money train ends, MSWC goes bankrupt, and the McMansions go back to the bank, Robyn will be the next.
And Yes. The fact Christine IS polygamy blueblood, she will find another priesthood holder who perhaps is more interested in following his faith rather than having face time on a 3rd rate reality show on a 2nd rate network.

Agree Cynical. We always say that Christine will never leave because of her devout upbringing and strong ties to the AUB - but these very factors might make it easiest for her to leave Kody. She cannot be happy how far they have strayed from their church. The AUB itself doesn't seem eager to associate with Kody. Don't get me wrong, if she leaves it won't be to reject polygamy. It will be to attach herself to a different priestholder.

DeleteYou may be right CJ. Kody hardly seems committed to AUB, and that would be a big black mark against him. There's still the matter of decriminalization of polygamy in Utah though, which happened courtesy of Kody and tribe. AUB was definitely against the lawsuit originally, particularly because some proponents had attempted to link it to the gay marriage movement. However, once it was a done deal, I remember reading some gratitude expressed in the press towards the Browns. It may have been a statement from Dave Watson of AUB. Can anyone remember the details of that? Will they turn against the man who handed them better standing with the law? An interesting dilemma.

Christina is correct. This statement was made by Kody to Christine during one of the episodes. They were at a restaurant, eating nachos I think (not joking). It was all of the adults present at an outside table, I think. And to be fair, it was probably chips and salsa and not the dreaded nachos.

DeleteAs sad as the notion of their devotion to Kody is, none of those women will ever leave him. Meri, Christine, and Robyn were born into polygamy and their emotional IQ is stunted because of their lack of experiences outside of that world. Janelle chose the life which says a lot about her. I think we have all had friends who orientalized groups of people who were different from their own families and appropriated the culture to the extreme and I think that was what Janelle did...she saw polygamy as exotic and she pursued a couple who were going to practice it...I think she even says it in their book. The original three and late Robyn have fought for scraps of Kody's attention for so long that they honestly have no idea how pathetic they look or how sad they sound. In the beginning they tried so hard to show us they were just like us but better because in their words polygamy makes them better because through sharing a man, they grow spiritually, emotionally, and even intellectually...but we have seen that is not true. They did not grow but instead are passive aggressive to each other and to each other's children. They laugh and say they are in this for the relationship with each other but they go weeks without seeing each other and then lament on the couch that they want closer relationships. They negotiate with Kody for more time and they see and accuse him of spending more time with Robyn. Now, Meri has looked elsewhere for love and the other wives sit stoically while she cries...even my colleagues at work and I are closer emotionally than those wives. If one were to break down crying, I would not sit there looking at my hands; I would comfort her or him but those wives just sit there watching with no attempts to comfort Meri or, for that matter, each other when they are hurting. They see, I think, suffering like jealousy...it makes them stronger but in reality, it causes them more pain which gives them more reasons to dislike the other wives...they are a sad lot.

As for Janelle, it may be true that she was drawn to what appeared exotic, but on the other hand there are quite a few LDS women (members of the mainstream Mormon Church) who are vulnerable to polygamist groups like AUB. If these women read the early teachings of Mormonism and their own scriptures like the Doctrine and Covenants, it would not be a stretch for them to believe that they must live polygamy to please God. Polygamist cults use this to their advantage--particularly those like AUB who say that the mainstream LDS church is still the true church, but that they (AUB) are tasked with living the "higher laws" that the LDS Church abandoned. They also teach that god will re-unite AUB with the "mother church" in the future. Very seductive to some.

DeleteLet'e remember by all photos from back then, he wasn't a bad looking guy. He hadn't developed his rumpled, aging surfer dude look yet. But he did apparently have a super-sized ego and delivery. Even his high school friends said he was an attention hog early on.
If Janelle was not happy married to Meri's brother, Kody may have looked good to her because I do not believe Janelle campaigned to come into the Kodyworld plyg-fold because she read/studied up on the religion..no matter what she said in their whiplash, PR driven book. She wanted him.
Stands to reason that while married to Meri's brother, she would have socialized with Kody and Meri. Had opportunity and time to be around him and know that he had Plyg intentions to acquire a harem.. I believe that Janelle wanted *him* (not necessarily the religion), and she became whatever it took to claim that spot as his first willing harem recruit, which allowed him his role as a polygamist.
I also believe that Meri wanted him too, badly, and had hoped (expected) that in time he would love her enough to forgo the plyg crap. I guess Janelle made her move early enough that Kody's ego was set spinning on the Plyg fast track.
Ugh !!! Such vapid, pitiful women.....and all for a cretin who only wants what HE wants.
Amused, I agree with your assertion about Janelle. I think that she felt 'lucky' to land as cute of a guy as the young Kodester, and that her analytical mind figured out just how to do it. I'm sure that compartmentalizing all of her feelings and pretending they didn't exist has allowed that energy to be stored as a safety net, since extra weight to that degree often has en emotional/energetic component.

DeleteAs a former member of the mainstream LDS, I can tell you that I have never seen a woman comforted while crying. It is part of giving testimony to your faith, truly, there is a cultural divide. You can't judge by what you would do, you have been socialized differently. It is not that they are heartless, but that they are giving you the respect of expressing deep feelings, and, of course, sincerity. It is difficult to comprehend something so different from what your own reaction would be, but we are all brainwashed so that we can function in a socially acceptable way within our groups. They can't change their mind-set anymore than you can.

That is why I love this blog - reading other viewpoints and learning insight into the particular way they have been socialized. Your comment reminded me of a party I attended as a teen. It was at a mainstream LDS schoolmates home. We were sitting in a circle having treats and all of a sudden it took a strange turn. The 2 sisters hosting us each took a turn giving "testimony" to their faith - at the time I didn't understand what was happening - especially the sobbing by each as they were talking about their faith. The rest of us at the party were not LDS and we all looked at each other with alarm at the almost hysterical sobbing. However, we noticed the sisters made no move to comfort each other while they spoke and sobbed, so we just took our cues from them and remained passively staring. Crying seemed to be part and parcel of giving their testimony. In retrospect, it reminds me of how emotional Robyn's daughter is when she speaks. I am wondering if the women and girls are encouraged to display overt emotion when speaking about their feelings? Anyway, I remember not wanting to go back to any more of their "parties!"

I haven't followed them since out of disinterest, but did use your link and watched this tell-all Q&A. (it was filmed in June of 2015)
Granted, Brady was a much watered down version of ego maniac Kody Brown, but he is a true-blue harem master just like Kody. He still talks a good game of not honoring the patriarch dynamic, yet every epp of their show was all about him. His fatigue, his frustration valiantly trying to even out the attention between the five women (which was obviously NOT balanced), his headaches, his philosophical penchant for explaining what is blatantly a terrible lifestyle for women using his carefully chosen esoteric, fluffy words.
He is very good at that.
On a purely shallow note, Brady looks ridden hard and put away wet. Like vain Kody, he too is balding at warp speed. But unlike Kody, he doesn't try camouflage it with long top hair combed down to hide his rapidly receding hairline. Brady opts, appropriately, for a buzz cut. Kudos at least to him for that.
The wives look the same, but still look herded up, waiting for his cues.
Paulie still looks like she is there *but not there* with sad eyes.
Robin still looks nervous and unsure.
Rhonda is ever perky and still willing to do all the cheer-leading for the rest of them.
Crazy Eyes new mom was quiet.....definitely a welcome change from all her dramas in their show epps.
Rosemary remains the one wife I would choose to meet. She strikes me as having a mind that knows and processes things the others do not or cannot.

Don't you think the only way they can keep a grip on the show is to start the "who's going to leave and who's going to stay"? I don't think that any of these women are going anywhere, but I do think the made up drama is the only way to get an audience. Look how the catfish helped their show be actually somewhat interesting. I don't think the Brown circus can pass up that kind of storyline. They have tried the "we are just like you but even happier", " we are religious refuges in Sin City" , " we are broke and starting a business" and now after marital shake up, " marriages on the Rocks". Pun intended (sorry Christine)

Notbatmanyet has not allowed ANY of my posts “approved” or “allowed” to be posted on that Blog. Even though I gave the same email address I bought the book under so it has to be known I was a legitimate customer. I only questioned the date of the publication of the ebook since it was so widely posted in the Blog several times and has not been fulfilled as of yet. And when I checked back and read the Cover Art story? Really? It’s an eBook. We don’t even see Cover Art for the most part. Since everyone wants to know WHO Notbatmanyet looks like – what other Cover Art could there be at this point? Surely not a picture of a Pirate wielding a sword with a ship in the background or something like that. And not a picture of Meri because for goodness sakes, we ALL know what she looks like.

Or is she had just done a little research...It owns a business in the mIddle east? Not likely since most Middle Eastern countries do not allow citizens of other countries to own land or businesses, which means it would not own it but co-partner. The phone number that was listed as its business phone doesn't answer, ever, according to the Joker's haters....and the half faced picture....not other picture nor family...come on, it wouldn't take a genius to figure out it was a fake identity. Because Meri, like the other clowns, only block those who disagree with them, they are prime pickings for con artists. Anyway, I think TLC is capitalizing on all the haters who are interested in Meri's little fling so they are running the gossip rags crazy with leaks of this or the other. But, they must have interns handling this because the time to spark an interest isn't now but in Feb....if the rags go crazy now...by March, folks are tired of hearing it....poor planning all the way around from not checking to see who the Joker was/is to poor social media representation to poor publicity....TLC isn't keen on keeping the Browns or they would have done a better job of releasing those break up stories.
DeleteI was at the checkout in a grocery store last week and picked up a gossip mag that had a picture of the Browns on the front with the story of the supposed breakups coming. Inside it had a picture of the Browns that I haven't seen anywhere else, and had them posed looking very solemn and disconnected. It seemed very likely that they had posed specially for the article, which suggests that this is all a media stunt for publicity. I wasn't going to waste money buying the magazine, but wish I had at least made a note of its name. I'm so sick of the Browns and the lengths they go to to keep the TLC checks rolling in.
Delete@runKodyrun; I have always wondered why TLC doesn't do a better job managing the PR angle. It's almost like they just can't accept the hand they've been dealt. The Browns are what they have left in their lineup and they should have made the best of the situation. Maybe TLC was caught off guard and surprised that after losing the Duggars, BooBoos, etc. they were down to the Browns. They probably were set to cancel the Browns but fate (Josh Duggar) means they now have to build their schedule around these losers. TLC was so slow to react to the divorce, the catfish story--on every issue they've been behind the eight ball! TLC accept your fate and step up to the plate!
DeleteI have not watched this show in 3 seasons but I am up to date due to CJ. This blog is way more fun than the show. I can't wait for them to be cancelled. The lies they tell. I hope the baby is not born on January 9th. That's my grandsons birthday. I wonder how they will survive when the money train stops. I hear that they spend money like crazy. Kody should kiss TLC's ass for supporting his family all these years. The Brown's are fortunate that they landed this show. They have taught us nothing positive about polygamy. What woman in her right mind would settle for polygamy. It is so verbally abusive to women and children. Who wants to live like this. IMHO Kody is not "in love" with 3 of these women. He only loves Robyn and himself. I would not wait for his lazy ass to come over before my kids opened their presents. I wonder if any of them shopped together. Do they only shop for their own households or do they pull names. I wonder if Kody gave each of the women a special present. I have never called these women wife's because that title is reserved for the legal wife who is Robyn at the current time. I used to feel sorry for these ladies but they choose to live polygamy. I don't think they are happy. All but Robyn. It must hurt to see him fawn all over Robyn and spend the most nights with her. They won't even see him once the baby is born. Robyn will not be able to wipe her ass without Kody being there. She will be so needy. None of the other kids will have their father around. The kids are the ones that I feel sorry for. They did not choose this lifestyle. So happy that none of them want to live polygamy. They can see the hurt on their moms faces and see the pain in their eyes. I just don't understand how their so called fans still think that this is such a great family and that Kody is a super dad. Are these fans blind. WT? is wrong with these super fans. They must be watching a separate show. They claim that all they see is love with a bunch of people. They seem to think that the Browns are the poster child for polygamy. I would love to be able to talk to these women in an open forum. What are they afraid of?

It's easy to forget that the Brown's were chosen for this show because of Christine's work with the Safety Net Committee. Christine's push to do the show was her mission to show polygamists as having loving families with healthy relationships. Big Fail. I'm sure Kody's mission to do the show was to make money. They are probably at odds within the family about the directions the show is taking. It is hard to imagine Christine going along with story lines that feature the dysfunction among them. However, TLC has a different agenda. I don't think they care at all about how polygamy is portrayed. Their goal is ratings and unfortunately for Christine, viewers wants to see the ugly side of polygamy exposed for what it is. I'm sure Kody is on board with however they are portrayed as long as the show is renewed!

ReplyDeleteI think the recent rumors are a publicity stunt as well. And it is very disturbing that the Browns use these rumors to keep their show going. If they really cared, they would "issue" a statement in the media ASAP. Then again, I guess I am not surprised that they use the bad publicity as Mormon fundamentalism encourages its followers to "bleed the beast." Though I have to wonder if this publicity will negatively affect their current court case in Utah appeals on decriminalizing polygamy. If nothing else, this last season/publicity/catfish scandal has just piled on more evidence that polygamy is inherently abusive and should remain illegal.
ReplyDeleteFinally, I think that Meri was easily snowed by the catfish because polygamy seems to keep the women at an emotional immaturity that prevents them from making reasonable choices when developing relationships with the outside world. Constantly clamoring for Kody's attention is a crazy roller coaster ride of emotional ups and downs, they really don't understand what it means to have stability in a relationship/friendship. That's why I think Meri was so quick to profess love to the catfish. All of it is too difficult and sad to watch, so I gave up on the show seasons ago. But I do love this blog! So, Thanks, CJ!

DeleteJust discovered the name of the magazine with the obviously posed picture for the fake story of the women leaving Kody. It was Intouchweekly. I saw a partial picture on twitter that just shows Christine posing with a miserable expression and sad caption. Unfortunately it doesn't show the complete picture that runs across two pages. Robyn had her baby at home - 9 lbs 9 oz - and some press refers to her as Kody's 18th child but mentions this is his second child with this wife. So I guess the adopted ones are just absorbed into the plyg fold of mysterious parentage. Sometimes all 4 wives names appear however People online says he has 3 wives. Confusion or somebody bailed?
