In real life, polygamy is pretty damn scary if you look too close, for too long. But some of us like our polygamy served to us once a week on a silver platter called reality television, seasoned liberally with some social media. If you just to want to snark about reality shows like Sister Wives, Polygamy, USA or some newer shows on the horizon, my living room is yours.
Welcome to Cynical Jinx' Living Room!
A couple of months ago, my BFF (since high school no less) said something very profound to me. "Why don't you just leave that blog and start your own!"
Say whut?? Leave a successful blog for the unknown? Are you serious?
Well, a week ago, I realized she was right. The thought of having to watch one more episode of Sister Wives in order to write a review was...well...making me literally sick to my stomach. It was no longer a fun hobby, it became a job - and the work environment sucked. It was time for a change.
Now that I am on my own, I don't dread Sundays anymore. When I look at the recorded programs on my DVR, I don't see Sister Wives or Polygamy, USA. It's practically plyg free! My Kindle still needs work, but hey, Rome wasn't built in a day, right?
Anyway, while it's wonderful to have my DVR back, I definitely understand the obsession about Sister Wives, and everything polygamous, but don't forget there are some other perfectly dreadful reality shows like "Below Deck", "Breaking Amish", and "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" around, too.
Has anyone watched Big Brother this year? Now THAT is some scary shit! And on the subject of scary shit, how about RHOC's Vicki G. and her Marine son-in-law? YIKES!!
So in order to feed my need to blog, (and as a repository for my past reviews and articles) I created this blog - not to compete with other blogs out there, but just to have...fun without needing to delve too deeply into "public records".
This is my living room, and you're welcomed to come visit for a while.

Cynical,
ReplyDeleteLove your new blog. It is so well written and fun to read! Thanks for all of your hard work and dedication
I wasn't following the other blog that closely this year because, like you, I had gotten a little weary of Sister Wives. I recently decided to check in on it and I noticed that you were missing so I googled 'Cynical Jinx' and was able to find your blog. Looks good so far!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much!
DeleteI'm so happy to have found your blog! You were the reason for vistting swb. I understand if it is private, but what to you mean "the work environment sucked"? I'm asking because I was totally suprised when you left the old one and curious as to what happend :)
ReplyDelete...but what to you mean "the work environment sucked"?
DeleteI was really burned out on Sister Wives and the whole polygamy backstory thing and decided the time was right to step away.
Now, I leave the serious side of Sister Wives and polygamy to other blogs while I focus on the wacky world of the tv reality show players who just happen to be polygamists.
I'm so happy to have found your blog!
Thank you so much! Please visit often!
Cynical Jinx,,,congrats on the new blog! It's great to read your amazing posts again & I'm so happy I found your new home. Take care & Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays to you too my friend! Thanks so much and please visit often!
DeleteCynical Jinx...So happy to have found your blog! Your reviews were the best part of SWB. I saw you mentioned on another website and decided to google you and here you are. I too like my polygamy less serious with some (well actually I like lots) of snark thrown in. Best of luck with this new endeavor and I'm looking forward to your living room! Thanks for blogging!
ReplyDeleteMaybe this is private too, but why don't you give your blog a cool name like "reality tea" (another blog's name just as an example)? I like Cynical Jinx as your name but not so much for the blog. As far as the "work" aspect, I love not seeing ads everywhere, but if you have a good enough blog to monetize, why leave money on the table? Rhetorical questions: I don't need an answer!
ReplyDeleteHi Mastiff!
DeleteI took a lot of consideration in the naming of my blog. First, I did a simple google search - and found that my name was very recognizable on the internet - thanks to almost 3 years exposure on the previous blog.
If someone searched for just Cynical Jinx on Google, my blog holds the #1 position on page 1 !! (according to my BFF and some weblog optimization websites I use for SEO - search engine optimization)
The problem is, outside of Google, my blog isn't showing up on the first page. That could be because of how new it is (about 6 months). So I'm trying other ways to build up exposure in the meantime. I guess I'm lucky that most of the people searching the internet use Google as their search engine.
As far as ads, I'm one of those people who can't stand going to a website and being bombarded by ads. In fact, I got a nasty malware virus from a reputable newspaper website that got hit by a rogue advertiser not so long ago. And literally, you have to have millions of people clicking ads for more info in order to get a decent return.
I was watching (I think it was called) Couple's Therapy and one of the husbands had a [trashy] website where people sent in pictures of people they hated or broke up with. He mentioned (either on the show or in an interview) that he made a lot of money from advertisers who paid him for the privilege of placing their banners (those long ads either in the header or footer and/or on the sides) on his website. I think he said he got something like $50K per banner.
Now, if a reputable well known company would ask me, I would do that in a heartbeat!!
Yeah, I know your questions were rhetorical, but it was fun to answer them anyway!
Thanks for the long answer, and I certainly appreciate no ads also, but I'll hope one of those $50k ad banners comes calling someday!
DeleteYes I finally found you! Been reading the other blog for years laughing and nodding to all the things you've been writing and like only once commented.
ReplyDelete(to many comments to read through, took ages and made me forget or feel to tired or it was to late cause I live in Sweden and only resent tlc europe is showing the season when the Browns is moving in to there macmansions).
So so happy that you started a new blog. :)
Looking forward for stuff to read.

Deleteomh, omh, omh, omh, SO happy to have found your new blog! I only recently stumbled into Sister Wives, and spent a few weeks glutting myself on the whole saga, from Season 1 to the present. What started as an ironic "haha, this is probably so bad it's good" distraction became a mild obsession, after looking a few baffling things up online, and finding out WAY more than the show hints at.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, Sister Wives is not a so-bad-it's-good show, but one that I cannot, in good conscience, even recommend to my friends for cheese factor, so I'm pretty much alone in my current fixation on all things AUB-related. The sisterwives blog was so informative and painfully funny. I've read pretty much every old post and the comments (your reviews are hilarious, btw!), and am very happy to know it still lives on in some form, even if not sisterwife/"plyg" focused.
Much love [multiply/divide as needed],
Kira
Thank you so much and welcome to my Living Room, Kira!
Delete(p.s., it never occured to me to search for your name - I found your link via a SW thread on the Free Jinger blog.)
ReplyDeleteHi Cynical Jinx - I was an avid reader of the other blog and then heard you had left but didn't know you had your own blog. The other blog seems to be in suspended animation with nobody posting to it since early December when a relative of the blog owner said she was very sick. I started googliing around and came across your blog. Love the snark and will definitely be reading your posts. I have stopped recording Sister Wives. Even the previews are hard to stomach anymore. But, I continue to have an interest in reading everyone's opinions about the show. I imagine Kody's ego is bigger than ever now that they've won their court case - as if his head could get more swollen.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Everybody!!!!!
DeleteI'm glad I found this blog because I am still "interested" in Sister Wives, but for the same reason as before … four women are married to the same man! How is this possible? How does this work? How does this fall apart daily? I watch Sister Wives one week behind, however, due to the fact that it's Downton Abbey season. But I still hope you'll be covering Sister Wives with regularity. I actually thought someone had died at the other site. Not sure how I missed this site. ah, but I'm here now. Do we still have voyeur neighbors at the cul-de-sac and polygamists weighing-in? One of my interests was speaking with wives of muslim men who actually have a different take on polygamy or knew less about it that the average American. Cultures are fascinating. I would call AUB a culture, however.
ReplyDeleteI watch Downton Abbey too!! Welcome to my living room iCeltic!
DeleteAnother brilliant review Cynical...so happy that many of us found your Living Room! As usual, the Browns continue to amaze me with their dysfunction- seriously, a commitment ceremony and family mission statement between 4 women who barely tolerate each other and 1 crazy man-child?!
ReplyDeleteI do think Kody will be courting another wife very soon to secure another season and keep the TLC paychecks coming... I also think Robyn's head will explode at being replaced by a younger wife!
CJ, I had a feeling or more accurately, a hope, that you had started your own blog.
DeleteI searched and searched for it, but never thought to type your name. Then a few days ago, I hit on it at google. Very happy that you decorated and opened your cyber living room. Your brand of snark needs to be viewed and appreciated. :)))
Thanks and welcome to my new Digs!
DeleteYou have no idea how excited I am to have found your blog! I was a huge fan of yours on the other blog and would visit weekly to read your reviews! After you left it went downhill and I don't believe it's been updated in months. Anyway, your blog is now saved in my favorites and look forward to reading your hilarious views on SWs 😀
ReplyDeleteJules
Thank you Jules! I'm happy you found me!
DeleteI too am so happy to have found you...you are bright and funny :)
DeleteI am glad I found this blog!
ReplyDeleteI found you!! Boy am I glad I did. I love your commentaries. That other blog is horrible since you have left.
ReplyDeleteThank you and Welcome to my Living Room!
ReplyDeleteDo you mind if i ask if you know what happened to Mister Sister? She was sick and hasn't updated in forever. Also, i am SO glad i found your blog because this fills the void i was missing! Love your reviews, love your snark, SO SO happy you are blogging :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Ty and welcome!
DeleteUnfortunately, we don't have more to offer than what's posted on SWB. Sorry...
OMG! YAY!!! CJ I missed you so much! TVWP is no longer. They are allowing people to give out alternative blog info and say their goodbyes. Someone mentioned you and I felt like I found a long lost sibling!!!! I didn't post much on SWB but I enjoyed your posts so much. Thank you so much for starting this blog. I have had serious withdrawal. Can you say what happened to SWB? Kinda worried about Mister Sister... Anyway, so good to "see" you again.
ReplyDeletePS SWB went down hill when you left (-;
Hey Abreva Anyone!!
DeleteWelcome to my new digs!!!
TVWP is no longer. They are allowing people to give out alternative blog info and say their goodbyes.
NOOOOOOOOOOO WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!
Oh my gosh, talk about the end of an era! I started out on TWoP...what a shame. I think I'll even miss TWoP Howard...no wait, maybe I won't miss her.
I should have known something was up when it took me forever to find the Hell's Kitchen TWoP forum because the link provided by the mod was to the 2011 archive.
I found you tonight when I googled "Kody is an idiot". :) I didn't know you had a blog- best news ever! Is that really your living room?
ReplyDeleteCJ, you have given me all new enthusiasm to watch this stupid show. I can't believe it is still on...and I want to say that the end of last season Kody's dancing was scary and the dresses for the wives were horrible.
Gotta go catch up on your comments.
Welcome Julie! Glad you found me!
ReplyDeleteIs that really your living room?
I wish it was, but alas, the only similarity is the shape and the ceiling fan without the cute sitting room in the front.
YAY..... I can't believe I found you! I used to read the SWB, well before MS became ill and stopped posting. I was shocked when you left and now I feel like Christmas has come early!!! YAY... Looks like I have a little catching up to do.
ReplyDeletedj
p.s.
I found when I googled sister wives blog.
Oh my goodness, I can't believe I've found you - but so thankful I did!
ReplyDeleteI was a fan of your recaps and comments on the other blog and with the new season starting I needed an good place for witty snark and like minded readers w/interesting comments. It's right here in your living room! Thanks CJ!
I've spent the day reading here and now that I'm caught up I'll check in often.
I agree--this blog is more fun than the show!! It gives us a place to say--"Did you just see that?" I STILL cannot fathom the "work" this family does! How the *#@* are they paying for their homes and expenses off of 500 orders?!
DeleteThe shots of Kody running from house to house are hilarious.
Thank you and Welcome!!!!
DeleteI posted every now and again on the other blog and still checked it frequently b/c I missed your posts! Did a Sister Wives blog google search to see if I could find a new "home" and found your blog!! So happy! :) Going to read all the posts in one sitting and get caught up...lol! :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome!!
DeleteHi CJ,
ReplyDeleteI was a HUGE fan of yours on the other blog! And I totally agree with you - what drew me to that initially was the stuff we could laugh about, not all the sad/preachy articles. It really wasn't fun anymore.
I am shocked I found this and feel silly for not looking sooner. Off to catch up on all the reading! :)
-Heather
Thank you Heather and Welcome!!
DeleteI'm not exactly sure how I stumbled across your blog, but I am SO glad to be here, and have bookmarked it so I can find it again. Loved your reviews and comments on SWB, and have missed a place to come and laugh with others about the crazy parts of SW.
ReplyDeleteWelcome, Ladybug!
DeleteHey Cynical Jinx, your blog is great! I have a blog discussion topic for you. If Sister Wives goes for another season, suggested plotlines. My list for now:
ReplyDelete1) Kody spending quality time with his children, one on one or small groups. Barking orders doesn't count and it's not baby sitting when it's your children.
2) Someone get a real job, My Sister Wives closet does not count.
3) The Browns engage in charity work, and I mean all adult Browns, soup kitchen, Habitat (lots of drama there actually), something for someone else.
4) Participate in a book club with non "plygs." Bonus points if the book is by someone who left FDLS or other polygamous group.
5) Bet where Kody has to shave his hair if he loses.
6) RV trip where Kody drives an RV and sleeps in it every night. All wives in motel rooms and make sure that Kody doesn't sneak into any rooms.
7) The Brown adults take a financial responsibility class. Suggestion, Financial Peace University by Dave Ramsey which is faith based.
8) Brown meet with former reality stars that had lives negatively impacted by show or lives fell apart after reality gravy train dried up.
9) Since "Sobin's" got another bun in the oven despite whining she couldn't without help with MSWC, a secret poll of other 17 children - Do we need more children in this family? and/or Vasectomy for Dad.
Whatcha think?
Hello, I started Watching Sister Wives last year and heard about your blog. Its a lot of fun in here I can tell
ReplyDeleteLove your blog more than actually watching sister wives :)
ReplyDeleteDear CJ - I MISSED YOU!! I can't believe it didn't think to google your name....I feel like one big idiot that it took me over a year to find you. But all is well now and I have spent the last two days reading your blog. Thank you so much for all you do in keeping us entertained and providing this outlet! It is much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteI'm late to the party, but wanted to echo the sentiments already expressed. Love the Living Room!
ReplyDeleteI'm just glad I found this site. I've only been on about 6 months I think but enjoy it probably way to much :)
