Off Topic Saturday 3/29/14 So What Have the Sister Wives Been Up To Lately?

We're coming to get you, Kody Brown and your Sister Wives!

Now that their season is over and the Brady Bunch o'Wives have taken over their timeslot on TLC, the Sister Wives have been quiet on Twitter.

Extremely quiet. Retweeting doesn't count and Meri and Kody are proving themselves to be masters of the retweet.

Luckily for us, there was some activity this past week. Let's take a look, shall we?

Now this tweet from Robyn has got me thinking...Robyn could use her fame to be a spokeswoman for the end of discrimination of those with special needs...
But she's going to need to do a lot more than just tweeting about it. And to be frank, she's aligned herself with a very mean person she calls a friend and business partner so tweeting this message just looks self-serving and hypocritical if you ask me.

And then we have Meri. Talk about someone who's gone retweet crazy, these gems were almost lost in the deluge...

For example, here's a blatant plug for the band that played at their cul-de-sac commitment ceremony recently. Show of hands...how many of you think she will actually make an appearance?

Anyone? Anyone?
Not when Meri's "little one" is nursing a cold in Utah...I suspect Meri is already on the road, to give her "little one" some love and attention while she's sick...

Well it's good to hear Mariah does have friends, after all.

Sounds like Maddie is soooo done with Las Vegas when she graduates high school in a few months!

Now that a Brown child has planned her escape from the cul-de-sac, one question remains to be answered...Where in the World is Kody Brown?

Well...after spending countless weeks at Disneyland this month, Kody has accompanied his son Hunter to a national wrestling match in Virginia.

Guess he needed to get away from it all...anniversaries and Disneyland can wear a sensitive and caring man out, don't ya know...

Poor Christine...

While celebrating her anniversary with Kody at Disneyland, seems all the ladies wanted to meet Kody but couldn't quite remember which wife she was. Notice how sweet and caring Kody's response was.
GRRRRRR!!!! What a first class a$$ this man is!

And will someone please tell us what's the scoop with this Mindy person? Interesting Kody retweet, though. Just file it under Things That Make You Go Hmmmm....
I guess Robyn is too busy to show her youngest son the wonder of ladybugs. No doubt this picture was snapped in-between Mindy cleaning Robyn's toilets.

Oh, and on the subject of a$$es, our newest polygamist of the progressive sort wrote a new entry on his blog.

Here's a link for your reading pleasure...Nice picture Brady! And I'm thinking maybe Kody should be reading this, too.

Review My Five Wives S01Ep03 Turkeys and Ticking Clocks 3/16/14

Brady and his Stepford-Sister Wives ©

OOPS!!

I was busy deleting shows on my DVR when I happened upon this episode. I had watched it, but I just didn't remember a thing about it.

That is not a good sign.

So I hurriedly checked the notes folder I set up for this series. Ah HA!! I made some notes, but only a few lines worth.

Oh dear...

So here are my notes for this episode:

  • New introductions for Kody Brady and his wives. They remind me of the tag lines used by the Real Housewives franchise. At least none of the wives claimed to like going commando like Sonia Morgan.

  • A very uncomfortable discussion about birth control. It's obvious Brady doesn't want anymore mouths to feed. At least not right now.

  • Dreary inside shots of the wives' worn out homes, outside looks messy. Nice shots of the mountains.

And that was all I wrote. And it was the Thanksgiving episode, too.

Wow.

The new intros were a big improvement from that Brady Dream Wife sequence from last week. Wait...let's take a closer look!

Robyn: I spent my whole life hiding, but not anymore.

Nonie: Now I live without fear of people knowing who I am.

Paulie: Sharing a husband is my choice.

Rosemary: People don't understand our lifestyle, but it works for us.

Rhonda: It's not that complicated; we just love each other.

Brady: Five wives and twenty-four kids. I wouldn't change it for anything.

Oh yeah, I guess Sister Wives uses the same intro format, too. Go figure. At least Brady didn't use Kody's stupid catchphrase that "Love should be multiplied, not divided."

I'm not going to recap the obviously scripted story lines in this episode.

That means you won't be reading about Rhonda's quest to become an adoptive single mother who just happens to be in a polygamist marriage with a man who really loves his children but has to divide time with his other 4 wives (and their 20 odd children).

I will say that Nonie and the other wives do have a problem with Rhonda's strange desire to adopt. More on that later.

And I'm not going recap Brady's feelgood story about whether he can make an appearance at his son's karate test. Or their really boring Thanksgiving feast, or even that weird meeting of wives at  Rhonda's house to talk about  the Judge's ruling on Utah's polygamy law.

Now, I will say that Brady has some unconventional thoughts about birth control. This was the BEST part of the show.

For instance, here's a picture of the group as the producer feeds this question to them: " Is it okay to ask about birth control?"

Robyn looks bemused, as does Brady and Rosemary. Nonie looks like she has a smirk on her face. Rhonda on the other hand, looks nervous and Paulie...well Paulie looks shocked, gobsmacked, utterly astonished.

In fact, Paulie's expressions say a lot more than her words!

Look at the expression on her face as she says "I don't want to talk about this."

And Paulie's version of Crazy Eyes gives RHoNY's Ramona Singer - who is the undisputed QUEEN of Crazy Eyes a run for their reality showbiz money!

The other eye raising moment was when Rhonda told Brady that he "... [was] raised totally different than we were...[birth control] was a sin because that is your purpose in life is to be a mother and raise children so you do not prevent that in any way, shape or form."

Brady feels there is nothing wrong with birth control, and just like every other American family, his family should be free to practice it.

It's obvious that his wives were brought up to believe differently, but it becomes very apparent that Brady has mandated that his wives DO practice birth control. As Nonie had discussed earlier with Rhonda, Brady "...has a hard time with a wife being pregnant because its so hard emotionally on him." with Rhonda  adding "...he's always very relieved when no one is expecting..." The wives nervous laughter and side looks to Brady rather confirms this.

I don't know, maybe Brady, unlike so many of his former brethren (like Kody Brown for instance) just doesn't want to risk more financial hardships of having more children. Perhaps Brady understands that there are not enough hours in the day to spend quality time with 24 children. As he puts it, it's about quality, not quantity.

Take that, Kody Brown with your 4 wives and 17 children!

But something just doesn't add up with this guy. Why would he tell his wives no more children, but then be supporting the newest wife Rhonda in her quest to adopt a child?  Nonie has expressed her feelings on the subject: Brady had locked the door on their having more children but if he allows Rhonda to adopt, then that door should be unlocked for the other wives, and they should be allowed to have more children, too. Unless...

Call me cynical (Ms Jinx if you're nasty) but I wonder if ole Brady has been "snipped" if you know what I mean. That could explain a lot of nervous looks and chatter between the wives and Brady and Rhonda's need to adopt.

Maybe this type of radical behavior (birth control) was the reason for his leaving (or being ousted) from the AUB. I doubt we will know for sure, but I'm willing to see if this question will be answered in future episodes.

Off Topic Tuesday with Those Crazy Sister Wives Krew March 18, 2014

I was scanning through my emails  recently, when I happened upon something interesting - it was kind of a heads up, somebody may be having a little too much fun in college kind of email from a blog fan in Salt Lake City.

Now, I was no angel in college - I've TP'd my share of cars (not very easy in a dorm parking lot with patrols every 30 minutes), short-sheeted my share of unsuspecting roommates, thrown icy water on suitemates who didn't lock the door while taking a hot shower and shoved jerks down the 12th floor dorm garbage chute. Okay, so I never shoved anyone down the garbage chute but I did seriously consider doing it once or twice.

And I don't even want to remember the times I got sooooo drunk that I....well, let's just say girls will be girls.

Imagine my surprise that someone's friend of a friend of a friend reported they witnessed a college age, reality show "star" having a bit too much fun partying.

No way, I said to myself. Impossible. Not the epitome of sweetness and delight. I put it out of my mind and went over to check out some stuff on Twitter.

A Tale of Two Half-Sisters

I was on the phone with my BFF, when something caught my eye. On Mariah's twitter page I noticed her new profile:

When I read out loud "just your average tv star" BFF said quite innocently "Well, the Sister Wives are reality stars, what's the big deal?"

It was when I explained it was Mariah's profile that my usually easygoing, laid back almost to the point of being horizontal BFF let go with a stream of consciousness profanity. Please note that I have edited her response to protect the more sensitive readers in the audience.

"Who the HELL does she think she is?" BFF screamed into the phone. "The ONLY reason she has been on TV was because her PARENTS are reality show stars! Next week, she'll be a nobody. Once that show is cancelled, she'll STILL be a NOBODY."

"Maybe it's a joke..." I mumble. BFF, however, was still on a roll and screamed "Her mother spent all that money to send her to Westminster and she thinks she's a TV STAR????"

I didn't dare tell her about the "laughing her way through college" part. BFF finished her tirade with "She needs to worry about that bad dye job on her hair! She's not going to influence her friends with that kind of attitude!"

So I started reading what kind of tweets sweet Mariah tweeted this week.
Only a total nerd would be wasting a Saturday night doing this. C'mon, my friends and I made a list of essentials - TV, stereo, must-have dance music consisting of Sly, the Stones, and Al Green. Oh, and making up a list of cute guys to help us move from dorm to apartment. Fifteen minutes later, we were getting ready to hit the clubs for the night. So I'm thinking this could be her doing some damage control if the "rumors" are accurate.
Honey, when you're suffering the effects of the Freshman 15, why ruin a perfectly good cake with Gummy Bears?
Oh yeah, this is definitely damage control.

But I'm feeling some competition between Mariah and her sister from another mother, Aspyn. When Aspyn tweeted:
Mariah replied:

I guess those friends Mariah was planning her apartment with were not her BEST friends, if you know what I mean...
Why of course you would love her profile. Like they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!

You know, maybe Meri should be giving her daughter more constructive advice, like maybe not being so self-centered and entitled. Starting with deleting that not very humorous new profile.

As Animal House's Dean Wormer cautioned the boys of Delta House, "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life..." Amen to that.

And then, there's Aspyn, who recently celebrated a birthday...

Even Kody got into the act...

Oh look! Aspyn got a special treat! The Blue Man Group!

It seems Aspyn's college experience is a lot different from her sister from a different mother. It looks like she is taking to Greek life with the same enthusiasm her father has when he sees a TV camera...

And how happy Aspyn was for her sorority sisters to meet her family. I wonder if Christine was thinking about sharks...
Ha ha!! Looks like Christine is still trying to figure out the parenting thing, but you have to love her side comment to Kody...

And here are the tweets she didn't want Kody to see...

Now Kody if you're reading this, shut your eyes!

Chapter One:

And Chapter Two:

Well, at least it sounds like Christine is having some fun these days. I like how she's really into tweeting now. She could teach her sister wife Robyn a few lessons!

Finally, it looks like Kody and family (not sure which wife or wives had the pleasure of his company) took another trip to the Happiest Place on Earth, which really should be renamed KodyBrownLand when you consider how much dough the Browns must drop there every month...
I'm just hoping Kody hasn't started charging his fans for taking his picture.
