DeleteI see that Robyn is plugging Maurices where she says she bought last week's hoodie and can buy long pants. I saw on the previews that she has on a Maurices cardigan. I ws given that sweater for Christmas by my daughter-in-law (a Maurice's employee) and my son for Christmas. I love the sweater, but I almost spit my food across the room when I recognized it on Robyn.

Robyn "doesn't want her kids to hear" that people are delaying marriage and having children until they are older? That would be horrible. Can you imagine, teaching your children that you are more likely to have a happy, stable marriage that does not end in divorce if you give yourself time to get an education, find a career, grow as a person, and meet the right person? Horror story.
ReplyDeleteThe more aware these kids are of the real world and the opportunities denied most plygs (even their mothers) the less likely they are to follow the family religion.
DeleteI don't doubt that is Robyn and most of the Browns fear whether or not they admit it. Say what you will about wanting your children to be their own people, it must sting to have your way of life refused. Publicly no less...while filming a show about how great and loving it is.
I've learned from my LDS friends (yes I know their is a difference between LDS and FLDS) it is very hard for parents when children leave the faith or choose another. Not only do the parents fear the separation of their children in the afterlife (which is a huge selling point in Mormonism) or being cast into 'outer darkness', they also must face the shame of 'losing' their family to other faiths.
Even loving and progressive families struggle with their children leaving their faith. I can only imagine how 'shameful' it is to a fundamental sect of a faith group.
The children outright denying or refusing the faith is the biggest endorsement AGAINST this faith than anything we can say. Or anything the Browns can try to show.
On a previous post a commenter noted that it's not unusual for a teen or young adult to want to live on their own after graduation and during college, which is true. I don't think that's really arguable at this point.
DeleteWhat I do think is telling is that many of the kids don't seem inclined to come home over summer or stay at home at all while going to a very close school. Me and my friends always liked coming back for summer and holidays...yeah we missed the freedom and excitement of school but there was something comforting about being home (if only for a little bit).
Hell, I was 22 when I finally fully left my parents home and I still stopped by for the first few months to visit with my parents.
Probably because I was happy at home and had a decent relationship to miss, but out of the teens that have left, none seem remotely nostalgic about being back home.
I don't even recall social media posts about missing a favorite meal or tradition. I see 30 plus year olds on Facebook who miss a home cooked mom meal or old game night.
Just seems odd for such a 'fun and well adjusted' family.

DeleteIn the last ep, Christine made it seem like Aspyn had been home for at least part of the summer. Not sure if it was just after moving out of the dorm of if she'd been living home for the year. Can't remember where she was supposed to be living her freshman year.

Yes, we laugh at the Browns, though none of it is from their humor or 'fun pranks'. It's usually (in my case at least) the same kind of laughter I get when seeing my stupid cat trying to hide something under the tiles.
That sad laughter you get while watching someone or something pathetically fail.

DeleteI didn't know quite what to think about Logan's comment about Maddie joining the Morman Church. He said something along the line of "I just don't want to think about it." It puzzled me. That could simply mean exactly what it says, or it could be saying a whole lot more about Logan.

DeleteI wonder how much of janelles family besides gram that they see. When you convert to the LDS church you don't just go down to your other mothers house across the street for a short time. You have three hours of church minimum a week and ward activities and callings which take up time and tithing which takes up budget. Also at their ages if they formally joined at 18 they would be under pressure to go on a mission in as little time as a year. We saw the older boy in my five wives decide to formally join LDS and go off on a mission soon after. Then there is the marriage aspect. The family would not be there, unless they were brave and did the public service first and waited a year to be sealed. Most countries they let you seal immediate after a public ceremony, which the state needs, but not here. It's some sin. No matter they could be sealed by proxy if one of them dies before the year is up. Its a lot of separation and exclusion from family on the part of the convert. The LDS care people live polygamy. Would she drift away? No one else takes it seriously. I'm not sure how any of the kids could honestly think there is a god since God makes their parents do these things. I really would not care what level of heaven I ended up.

DeleteShe sought the family out so she could get on TV. She knew there were talks of a reality show and she drove up to Lehi to visit her cousin. (How convenient.) If you just look at the timeline in the book and cross reference it with the other players it is plain as day. She even makes comments about walking through the church to go to the bathroom. I think that was her first successful attempt at swinging her hips by Kody so he would notice. Sounds like she's living her dream.

DeleteThat doesn't surprise me at all. There's never been any doubt in my mind that good ol' Sobyn is a raving bitch. We've seen her true colors come out a few times, most famously yelling that she didn't give a "sh-# at Kody last season during their RV trip. Also, don't forget how she talked to Christine's aunt at that panel. I would have knocked her into next week if she called me "sweetie".

DeleteMakes me serious wonder at her education and glad the kids seem to go a regular public school. They ran away from their own mind. Christines family of yesteryear broke up because incarceration got some of her relatives to be able leave. Short creek was kept apart two years. And they actually had more than one wife. Wasn't cause they were innocent. Prison doesn't last forever. Lots of parents are in prison. You go on TV saying you are breaking the law and then every time you see a police car freak out. Duh!

ReplyDeleteShe totally looked the most deranged during the moving scenes. Really paranoid and distressed, put it in the truck and let's go. In every other situation she seems the most sane. Except for this one she was the least sane. Her older kids were incredible lost and not to hard to see why with mom so unraveled.
DeleteJanelle was the one who knew that they had scammed the system for welfare and benefits and was the only one who understood that they could actually face consequences for it.
DeleteShe would also know that it wouldn't matter what state they happened to be in. Cohabiltating in Nevada according to Utahs definition meant they weren't breaking any laws in that state. But it doesn't mean you can evade arrest or charge from Utah forever. i get that she had more real world knowledge than the rest but they left as if people were coming at them with torches and pitchforks. Qualifying for welfare as a single parent doesn't mean dad wasn't on the certificate and his income, given his income status, wasn't considered.

ReplyDeleteI think the producers are just being sadistic, rather than escalating the drama. They cut to Meri, when they show the birth of Solomon. They dwell on Christine when they cover Robyn's pregnancy, showing that Christine is coming around to accept Robyn in the family.

I don't get this second hour, Robyn's Behind-the-Scenes. Weren't we supposed to be 'told why' Robyn is now the legal wife? What was 'new?' Anyone know? This was a just a rehash. Did production come up short for footage for their 10 or 12 episodes and threw this together? I am stumped.
ReplyDeleteAgree with the points up thread that Maddie was put in a tough position to have to sit with 5 adults questioning her religious change. Christine seemed the hardest on her. Wow. It was super sad to hear that Maddie had been depressed over the summer. To know she had excelled in high school and was the class valedictorian etc, makes me guess the family dynamics were what had her so depressed.
Whoever edits is fairly consistent about not airing what they say they will air according to teasers or even the schedule. Did they talk about robyns trouble with her ex, besides a lot time ago getting a divorce?

DeleteThey didn't get into any specifics at all about Robyn and her ex-husband. Its what we know, she had 3 kids from that marriage, she talked about having premarital sex, hmmm...can't think of anything else. But there were 'clips for the next show' of Meri going to an attorney.
We were supposed to see Meri conforting robyn last week about troubles her ex. I hoped they decided against it. Then the marriage revelation. Then it seemed they were going to cover it with the change in lineup to be all about robyn. Why suddenly two hours of SW?

I'm trying desperately to remember exactly where I saw it (I'm pretty sure it must have been old links) but I remember she was the same person who put together Sol's birth episode.

How does a show stay on the air that uses so much past show footage? They have recycled more footage and have so little original content.

HaHa!! Amused, I forgot to get coffee today from the store so there's no way I can last through 1 normal episode and that damn Robyn's journey mess without a lot of coffee coursing through my veins. I might watch it tomorrow, maybe. It's on right now (1st episode) which means the 2nd episode won't be over until midnight. I'd rather watch Worst Cooks and Cut Throat Kitchen instead!

ReplyDeleteThe changes in everyone is startling! Meri looks like she gained every pound Janelle lost with 20 more packed on top. I forgot how big Janelle used to be and how tiny Robyn was, but Janelle looks like she's gaining weight again. Last, Robyn looks like she has gained 30 lbs, you can see it especially in her face and her stomach. They are so unhappy and are just eating themselves to death.

She tweets that on the same night they show a clip if her saying she was absolutely devastated when she found out Grody kissed Robyn prior to marriage because he was a married man. Lies lies lies!
